This is a top 10 all time movie for me. Just about to start and see if y'all liked it too=) I hope so!

Ninaofthe90s

Two of the greatest tracking shots of all time. I watched them both many many times. And everytime I'm like 'how the hell did they do that?' I guess it's possible when you have Emmanuel Lubezki behind the camera. He also did the cinematography for Gravity, Birdman and The Revenant. - for which he won three oscars in a row for best cinematography. No one ever won three in a row 😁 I love the dystopian look of this movie. And it has sooo many long takes. This man is a genius. And he's probably the best in the business - next to Roger Deakins of course. And Alfonso Cuarón..one of my favorite directors. Who also did Gravity, Roma and Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban (which has a similar bleak look). This is a fantastic movie which deserved far more attention when it came out. I saw it in an nearly empty cinema when I was 16 and it kinda scared the shit out of me. It's so brutal and gloomy...but at the same time beautiful because there's hope in it too.

This movie is in no small way a very slick retelling of Casablanca but with a lot of modern political commentary; its got the bones of Casablanca: A cool, detached gruff guy lives in a place of conflict and suppresses his emotional pain behind his forced detachment. A woman from his past back when he cared about causes comes into his life, asking specifically for help with travel documents to cross a border. The old personal connection and their different paths comes up and eventually he is drawn back into causes and fighting for something despite personal risk.

that tracking shot from minute 25:52 - 30:00...absolutely insane. And of course the one starting at 1:23:29 - 1:29:48. Also insane. You kept talking a lot though during this scene, so I don't know if you noticed. 🙄😙 you didn't mention the cinematography at all, (!!) which is one of the best I have seen in my entire life. Lubezki has won a bunch of awards for this and I would also say it's the best cinematography of 2000-2010. Can't think of anything better during that time. I don't wanna sound rude, but your friend talks way too much for my taste, especially during the emotional scenes. But I'm here for you Jimmy. 👍

Robert Kruger

My favorite running shot still has to be the daughter getting the pills in Contact.

Drew

"What would you name the first baby in 18 years?" Jimmy, without hesitation - "Jesus" I was crying

Drew

This is possibly the most impressive camera work in any movie ever. The average cut is like one every two minutes, it's insane.
