Deadwood REACTION - 1x2.mp4

I'm glad you feel you'll be into the show :) I will admit, its not incredibly actiony; you said it was mellow, and yeah its heavy on talking and drama. I'd say it's like Rome, where there's a lot of story and dialogue and plot punctuated with moments of the extreme. It won't be like GoT as far as the amount of action. I would call it realistic (though at times clearly it needs to change things for dramatic purposes); creator David Milch did a good job taking the true story of the real Deadwood and changing some of the events and expanding on the real people (like Wild Bill, 'Calamity' Jane, Al, Bullock, etc.) to tell the story of how a society grows from nothing. Al's actor is Ian McShane, who as you said is in the John Wick series, appeared in Game of Thrones, also had a short-lived NBC show after Deadwood called Kings, he's the voice of the villain in Kung Fu Panda, American Gods, Ray Donovan, in Sexy Beast, lots of things you may have seen him in, one of those working actor types for years. Sorry, I'm rambling; favorite show so I could probably go on and on answering anything you want to know and rambling about it. Anyway, hope you end up liking it enough to finish and go to season 2, but if not still glad you're giving it a try! Even though it does have an older feel. Though I disagree i feels lower budget! That whole camp and all its extras, the costumes, looks pretty expensive to me, but it definitely has an "old HBO" style of editing, with slow scenes focused on talking in single locations and not many crazy camera moves.

Iam McShane is also in American Gods where he does very well in even when the rest of it goes to hell.

Doc is Brad Dourif. You probably know him best as the voice of Chucky, the killer doll. He was also Grima Wormtongue from Lord of The Rings.

Also worth mentioning to you, Jimmy...lots of Lost crossover! John Hawkes who plays Sol Star was also Lennon (who was one of the leaders in the Temple in season 6 of Lost). Robin Weigert who plays 'Calamity' Jane Canary was also Juilet's cancer-stricken older sister. William Sanderson who plays E.B. Farnum was Oldham, the 70's era DHARMA initiative interrogator. Paula Malcomson who plays Trixie was an Other that Sun shoots in Lost. You said you saw episode 3 so you've seen Kim Dickens, Joanie Stubbs on Deadwood, who played Sawyer's ex on Lost. And there's a couple other major Deadwood/Lost cast connections that I wont' mention yet because you haven't seen them yet =)

David

Shit, I never realized there were that many. nice!
