Draper is angry because she and her generation will never see a sky over Mars because of the arms race between Earth and Mars, and she's really resentful. She and her fellow Marines are a bit of a caricature, and at this stage they are meant to be really Amos's backstory is fascinating. There are 8 novels currently in the series, but the authors put out short Novellas in between some of the novels , one of the novellas is called 'The Churn' and is about his back story back in Baltimore. In the show they are always dropping hints as to how rough his life has been. As a character he knows he's a bit fucked up so he looks to link himself with someone who he knows is 'good' to act as a guide for him. Naomi served that purpose initially, Naomi and Holden do now, and he's fiercely loyal to his people as we have seen lol.

It took me a few episodes to warm to Gunny as well. I have a feeling you will like her by the end of this season. You didn't miss anything regarding Amos' backstory. They just divvy it out the way you might learn about someone in real life: through their stories and anecdotes.

So, I'm just the messenger, don't shoot me please but ep4 and ep5, you're gonna wanna watch together. Just a suggestion :) Those scenes with Holden Amos (TEAM AMOS) and Cortazar(scientist) are fantastic! No spoilers but Amos does have a very interesting backstory that has been hinted at but not revealed yet. Your reaction to Bobby (Gunny) the Martian Marine, is not unlike a lot of peoples when we are getting to know her and her squad. The next few eps should be very interesting lol Thanks Jimmy!

None of Amos' backstory has been given explicitly at this point. The way they handle Amos' backstory is one of my favorite things about the books and show. It's brilliant because he has a fully fleshed out backstory, it's hinted at a lot, but they don't give it to you fully. So every little bit of info you get on Amos' past is like a little piece of a puzzle.

I'd suggest a bit more care in explaining things here. I understand you're just trying to be helpful, but this is the show, not the books, so there are no guarantees the show will hew so closely to the books the entire run, and you can give inadvertent spoilers when discussing stuff in the books. I speak from previous experience when I spoiled something for someone else without meaning to. That's why I now try to keep my answers a bit vague when discussing anything in future episodes.
