After detective pikachu, sonic 1 &2, and the mario bros film; are video game movies entering into a possible good era or are they just exceptions? And ever seen Godzilla?

I think they've gotta catch up to Arcane, Edgerunners, Castlevania, and The Last of Us etc, because in-terms of movies to shows, there's no comparison.

Only one, whichever one this dude featured in.

It was the most exhasuting movie I've ever seen. Made Resident Evil 6 seem like a slow-burner documentary.

what is Arcane?

A show you should watch.

having just finished a(nother) rewatch of hbomberguy's analysis of Pathologic, I'm curious about your take on the subject: do video games need to be fun to be good?

Hell no.

I might've written recently about how annoying it is that "fun" has been dumped in development terminology for "engaging" but I do believe there should be games that aren't designed to be fun, just like how there are movies,  shows, books, etc, that aren't FUN.

I also want to see more games play around with a character's desires that don't line up with their actions. I've watched shows and movie where the badass action hero actually deep down doesn't like who they are, what they do, and does what they do because that's really all they know, but haven't seen many games attempt to play with that same depth.

How do you feel when games that were produced for the casual market find a strong footing in the eSports scene (ex. Super Smash Brothers.)? And do you feel that the creators of those games are in their rights to stop out competitive scenes in an attempt to keep their casual players? (Sorry for the poor wording it's like 4 am and I'm getting out of a 12 hour shift.)

I don't think a developer should ever intentionally seek out eSports. However, I also think they shouldn't stomp it out, and instead, give them the tools to let that competitive scene co-exist.

One of the great things about Melee is that you can turn on all the powerups and just use it as a party game with friends, and do it without radically changing the core-gameplay itself.

That's why its confusing to have so many games be character based these days, as that then locks abilities and playstyles into something you've got to build the game around, whereas in games like Smash or Halo 2, if an item or map wasn't balanced or broken...

Remove it.

Easy.

which song do you think is not used enough in fight scenes? for me it's Smack My Bitch Up by The Prodigy.

I remember hearing that in Chuck.

One of my goals is to make a game sequence where it appropriately use a Converge song. Death from Above gets my pick though.

Holy Shift

Didn't expect you to mention Converge here – which album is your favorite and why? On the topic of using it in a game – some sort of very vicious interactive beatdown set to the final third or so of Heartless would be quite impactful, I imagine
