Oh my - when I was a kid, we were friends with a really rich family, and their kid I used to play with had one of those. I had entirely forgot that existed!

Just the sight of it illicits a certain full sensory memory..... Ya know that peticular smell and temperature of that specific time and place that you first encountered such a device.....

One toy I was really impressed with from the early 1980s (I think) was the Texas Instruments Speak And Spell. The voice was far ahead of anything else I'd seen at the time. I think I bought 2 for myself and later one for my daughter. I still have 1 or 2 that work. The keyboard sucked on the early ones buty later became a membrane type. The additional game modules were good too.
