Trope Talk: Tone Armor

You've heard of Plot Armor, but is that the only convention that defines how messed up fictional characters can get? What we'll be discussing today is a very different animal! Let's talk about the invisible rules that shape fictional worlds and what dangers out heroes can realistically expect to encounter in them - and how a writer can weaponize those expectations against us! Our content is intended for teenage audiences and up. It does make a lot of sense. Makes me think of a movie I saw at uni which was all about two neighbours from different backgrounds on a new building and how their personalities, tastes and morals clashed in conversations; at the end of the movie robbers enter the building and kill one of them. My professor wouldn't understand I found that jarring and that the foreshadowing of at one point buying an alarm in case of robbers didn't alleviate the tonal shift.

Also, poor baby Red in that flashback! Doctor Who will do that, yes.

After watching this THEN a few episode of Batman Beyond - can confirm that THIS IS REAL. NELSON THE JOCK BULLY SHOULD'VE UP AND *DIED* IN ONE OF THE EPISODES I WATCHED, BUT HE DIDN'T DUE TO TONE ARMOR!
