From Aztecs to modern times and all the colonialism in between, Mexico has a lot of history to learn about. I myself was very unfamiliar with the topic before beginning my research for this video, but the more I learned, the more excited I got about how present, visible, and distinct the many different chapters of Mexican history are. There's a lot to enjoy in this story, and a lot to reflect on as well. I hope you like this video! :)

Next time we'll hop across hemispheres for the history of Ancient India!

This video is quite serendipitous in timing — by complete coincidence, this is going live on September 27, the day of Mexico's true political independence under the First Mexican Empire. This is the 11 year sequel to the more traditional Mexican Independence celebrations of September 16th, which marks Miguel Hidalgo's proclamation of the "Cry of Dolores" and the start of the Mexican War of Independence. I'm being 100% serious, I only realized this when I was partway through researching the video. I do so much ancient history I'm not used to events having dates we can track to the day. ANYWAY enjoy this look at Mexican History, here broken into three main acts, the Aztec Empire, the Colony of New Spain, and the Independent nation of Mexico. I knew World War 2 pulled the US out of the Great Depression. I didn't know it did much the same for Mexico. What is the state of personal freedom in Mexico, today? Milton Friedman (Nobel-Prize-winning economist) called the US war on drugs "socialism at its worst." I think even Friedman had to acknowledge that Social Security, clean water, and decent education opportunities are all good, but I love quoting him on the war on drugs, which also plagues Mexico with drug gangs.

Wow!!! What an absolutely fantastic video! I'd love to see a video on the Texas Revolution. I might be biased though because I, myself, am Texan.
