[YT Edit] Gangs of New York (2002)

Robert Jewell

I sometimes wonder if folks choose certain films to torment you. I think GONY is a good film with epic production and acting, Cameron Diaz especially, but it's brutal as anything. I can't remember which film I picked in this poll, but it wasn't this one. It's like asking someone to send you a nice bonnet for holiday and they send you a soup bowl.

Jeff Rogers

Bill the butcher is one of the most terrifying movie characters ever.

james flack

There are always going to be people that deliberately push the envelope. That's why I chose to abandon Cassie's YouTube channel and just support her on Patreon.

David Freese

Great sentiment but Patreons vote on the majority of the polls so you can't really blame YouTube people for what is watched. At times yes your right but there are several reactions that were voted here that where just as violent as GONY.

james flack

Sorry, David, you're absolutely right. I think the real reason I excused myself from Cassie's YT channel was because of all the violent live chats.

Michael Labs

I understand the sentiment; although I recall that Cassie's stated purpose was to experience movies beyond romances, some folk do push things a little faster than they should. I myself recall not being too pleased with "Full Metal Jacket" being pushed but I also recall that she managed to get through "The Pacific" which got pretty gnarly from about midway through to the end. Then there was the joy I felt when she discovered "Open Range"...

I sent this movie knowing it was a tough watch but it's an important part of our history. Yes I know it's not 100% true but along of it is and she has said on many occasions she likes movies based on true events. Not to mention you can't name many better performances then Daniel Day Lewis as Bill the Butcher. I will admit though I voted for Bedknobs and Broomsticks lmao!

james flack

Michael and Evan, thank you for your replies, I agree 100%. The problem was that the live chats were starting to affect ME. All the hate and bloodlust were getting to be just too much. 💛💛

Anonymous

I usually turn the chat off. I'm there for Cassie and Carly and the reaction not a bunch of people arguing for no reason!

Morgan A. Colbert

Daniel Day Lewis is my favorite actor. Looking forward to watching Lincoln with you someday!

Nathan Jasper

Okay before I forget, gotta suggest Jakob the Liar, Public Enemies, and Black Mass

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

"He may very well be the greatest actor ever recorded to the screen." Sean Penn on Daniel Day Lewis. I really hope Cassie reacts to more Daniel Day Lewis performances, his acting is incredible in films like My Left Foot (1989) and There Will Be Blood (2007).

Bill W

That was a brutal one Cassie. Way to hang in there. Leo and Cameron's accents were pretty dodgy, but everyone else's were excellent and more than made up for it. The sets and costumes were incredible. The film was nominated for many Oscars, but no wins. Daniel Day-Lewis won many awards for his role...Golden Globe, BAFTA, Critic's Choice, SAG but no Oscar.

Bill W

Jake I've been suggesting ITNOTF since the beginning. She skipped right over St. Patty's Day this year.

Bill W

He was pretty creepy and intimidating in Skyfall too.

Richard Maurer

I love the gentle souls who don't watch horror movies. Yes Bill the Butcher is verrrrry scary. You people keep believing that.

Jeff Rogers

Yes, jump scares, makeup, and special effects are the height of entertainment. Feel free to ignore my comments from now on.

Richard Maurer

I've noticed a lot people saying this film was "too much for Cassie", or words to that effect. I'm not the biggest Scorsese fan by a long shot, but this is one of his best and it's good that she watched it. Instead of worrying about if Cassie will like or be bothered by a film, I prefer to think of it as the movies that will be the most interesting for Cassie to watch. If it were only movies Cassie likes we wouldn't be watching horror movies in October, would we? I will remind everyone (again) that when Cassie started this she said she wanted to be challenged, to broaden her horizons. To do this there are going to be movies that Cassie won't like, that will bother her - and that's okay. If Cassie ever enjoys every movie that she watches then we're doing this wrong.

Richard Maurer

Wow, afraid of a little disagreement? Why is that not surprising. And your deep understanding of the horror genre is so impressive.

Richard Maurer

And I always felt free to ignore your comments but I chose not to do so. I mean this is a comments section, right?

james flack

Richard, normally I would agree with your analogy, except Cassie is not a seasoned, from a young age, connoisseur of violent and graphic films. Her upbringing shielded her from most of the ugly things in life, whether real or on the screen, things that most people her age are callous to. My main concerns are mostly what her mindset is going to be, say, 10 or 20 years from now.........My apologies to anyone who doesn't agree with me, but it had to be said. -James Flack

Samantha Collins

From a viewer's perspective, I love a good mix of both challenges and enjoyment, and who knows when they might intersect? The 90s Westerns in particular have been a blast, as I'm around the same age as Cassie and missed a lot of those classics despite my love for Neo Westerns. Also, (speaking of fun 90s films) I'm a new subscriber so sorry if this has been brought up before, but has True Lies been on this channel?

Richard Maurer

We're talking about a mainstream film here, not some underground horror film. I've seen Cassie watch a number of mainstream films that are harder hitting than average, but have yet to see any change in her personality. I think you're overstating the possible effect of these films, and making Cassie out to be weak. I personally think she's stronger than you're giving her credit for.

james flack

With all due respect, being raised to be sensitive and caring is not a sign of weakness, and as far as films are concerned, the term "average" is arbitrary at best. Watch some of Cassie's early reactions, from when she first started, the change is subtle, but it's still there.....P.S. I don't want to do this anymore.

Steve Holton

Welcome! No, True Lies has not yet been on the channel. But it is on the request app www.popcornrequests.com and will likely get included at some point.

Samantha Collins

Wow, thank you for the prompt response! I was just watching it today while cooking and chatting with my mom, and I thought, "Hm, Cassie would LOVE this!" (I'm a huge horror fan and Hereditary is one of my favorite films, but it's not something I recommend for everyone.)

Richard Maurer

Just because you've seen fake violence in movies doesn't mean you lose the ability to be sensitive and caring. I know lots of people who watch horror movies who are gentle, loving people. The idea movie violence makes you unable to be a kind person is just propaganda that comes from the people who would like to ban violence in films. And I don't think sensitivity and caring are weakness. But you making her out to be unable to watch some fake movie violence implies that you think she's weak. That change in Cassie that bothers you so much just means she's conquering her fears, which is always a good thing.

Richard Maurer

@Samantha - This I have no problem with. I have never tried to stop Cassie from watching a film just because I knew it was going to be a easy one for her. I just wish some people here would do the same when it comes to something challenging. And for the record I would not recommend Hereditary either, or at least not for the foreseeable future.

Philip Alan

^This all the way. I want to watch Cassie REACT. Not sit there with a smile on her face and not say much. I want her to be scared. I want her to cry. I want her to laugh. I want her to scream. I want to see her experience ALL OF IT! Not because I'm some mean/sadistic person... I just want to watch her REACT! Not to protect her. I just love waiting for that moment you know is coming, and see how she reacts to it. Whether it's a funny moment. A loving moment. A scary moment. A gross moment. A horrific moment All moments. I'm here for it.

John Rando

Watch Knight & Day with Carly. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Movie is fire.
