Hey guys! Here is the full reaction to "A Few Good Men". I'm realizing that I LOVE this genre way more than I thought. I'm always hesitant about Tom in a movie, but he always seems to pull it off and do such a great job. Everyone in this movie did such a great job! Anyway I won't spoil the reaction to much, hope you enjoy it and have a great day!

[Full Reaction] A Few Good Men (1992)

Comments

Lana Gorgeous

Unfortunately a dishonorable discharge is equivalent to a felony conviction and stays with a person forever and follows them into their civilian life and you forfeit all benefits of being a veteran. So in your post script, I would add that they successfully had their discharges upgraded, and then the rosy life scenario you mentioned could follow :)

Clay F

I like the end with sleaze liar Colonel Jessup being arrested.

Shaun Ganyo

Hope your face is ok!

David Freese

Since you love Tom Cruise now LoL 🤪 It time to talk about the Mission Impossible movies. Just a suggestion.

Shaun Ganyo

Yes, we have to trust the Cruise! I think he might be a little nutty IRL, but dude brings it EVERY time. MI and Rain Man, perhaps?

Sahitya

Ronny Boss

I loved this movie growing up. It's my third favorite cruise film. My first and second being Legend, and Rainman

zynjams

nice

Gábor Árki

Great, I will have something fun to do today while recovering from my oral surgery. :D I'm still not entirely sure what to think about Tom Cruise as a person. There are some contradictory statements and weird stories circulating. But Tom Cruise as an actor pretty much always delivers a full dedication to whatever he does and a quality performance. Even though I voted for something else, I'm really looking forward to this reaction too. Especially Cassie's take on Jack Nicholson playing a more grounded role. My vote went for A Time to Kill, that one is great too (but to be honest almost all in this lineup were good movies) although the topic is definitely darker. Cassie, it sounds like your dad has a good taste in movies. Throwing in an idea here: a Father's day poll? He could make a couple of suggestions from his favorites you haven't seen yet and we could pick one in a poll.

DarthChef

Aaron Sorkin wrote this screenplay based off of the Broadway play called A Few Good Men, written by Aaron Sorkin. Probably why it feels like a Broadway play.

XanderWhat

Not sure if you recognized him, but you just saw Kevin Pollack (Sam) as Hockney in The Usual Suspects! It was a very different character :)

William Bryan

You love the courtroom stuff. Awesome. I shall keep bringing up Devil's Advocate until you give in lol

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

The link for downloading the full reaction seems to be down :( I just get the following message from Vimeo: Sorry We're having a little trouble.

David RedEagle

Dont think I have ever watched this one. Super excited, I mean Demi Moore. Yum! the rest of the cast is stellar.

Philip Alan

The fact that the soldiers took it upon themselves to punish Santiago is what the court deemed "conduct unbecoming of a Marine." (and not the murder)

Brian Harris

There are very few actors who play bad guys as well as Nicholson does, and this is one of his more memorable villains. When he says in Cuba at the lunch scene, “This fucking heat is making me crazy,” you 1000% believe it. Jessep is a sadist and a monster. Nicholson has played other kinds of parts too though. Check out Terms of Endearment, which is a movie I think you’d love anyway, to see a very different side of him. Still devilish, but in a more charming way. There’s also a movie called About Schmidt, probably his last truly great performance, in which he just plays this sort of sad, worn out old man looking for meaning at the end of his life. He’s marvelous.

rubberkidney

feel like its been getting pretty safe around here. need some of that chaos reaction energy.

Jeff I.

Yeah, I think Cassie would really like About Schmidt.

Shawn Kildal

I'm surprised you didn't recognize Kevin Pollack (the other defense lawyer, Sam) from the movie you just watched The Usual Suspects.

Ken Langston

This movie's success led to the creation of the TV show JAG and later it's spinoff the NCIS franchise. In fact, the same actor played the person in charge of JAG in both this movie and the TV show, but they were not the same character.

Shawn Kildal

Glad to hear you are fan of the show 24. As am I. Remember the guy who assigned Tom Cruise's character the case and threw him a pen down the long table? That is Xander Berkeley who played George Mason, Jack Bauer's boss in Season 1 and 2. He also played the NASA P.R guy in Apollo 13, and was the stepfather to the young John Conner in Terminator 2 who got speared by the shape shifting Terminator disguised as his wife while drinking out of a milk carton.

Shawn Kildal

This was such a great reaction video Cassie. It was easy to see how much you were enthralled in this movie! This was one of those movies I wished I had seen at the theater. Such a classic.

Shawn Kildal

Wow. That's a great idea! I think his favorite of all time was Dances With Wolves.

ENC SW DV Rush

Jack Nicholson really pulled it off with his monologues,.... great support to pull it all together. Another great reaction - fun to watch ;)

Johnny

I think it's time for a Tom Cruise poll.

Future Boy

Cassie, that was great, easily my favourite reaction so far, and that's saying something. And as a bonus, you wrote us a sequel in your review! But what happened to Sam? Best man at Danny and Jo's wedding? The 3 of them started a private law firm maybe? Having seen this reaction, I really think you'd like The Firm (1993), also with Tom Cruise, made one year after A Few Good Men. It's also a legal movie, but whereas A Few Good Men turns into a courtroom drama, The Firm turns into a thriller that feels a little like The Fugitive. I hope to see it on your channel one day!

Ike

What am I doing here enjoying other people's reactions? If you knew me a year ago, I would have laughed at the thought of all this - but i admit, it is fun! I was elated that you latched onto the moral dilemma as opposed to the legal one. As Tom Cruise stated, "Santiago is dead and he shouldn't be," so someone is to blame and Cassie, you never let that go - which actually made me smile. This was the first time watching this movie that I actually wanted justice for Corporal Santiago and not just to see our team win. That's a good moral center to have and I want the team jacket. This one probably competes with Rocky II/III and LOTR in post-credit excitement and I have to agree this IS a very good ending! BTW - just in case there are ladies completely unaware of this: Admitting that you lost an entire set of steak knives in the middle of an argument is quirky and VERY endearing.

G

Rob Reiner is such a good filmmaker. From mockumentary (This Is Spinal Tap), coming of age (Stand by Me), fantasy (The Princess Bride), rom-com (When Harry Met Sally), psychological thriller (Misery), and legal drama (A Few Good Men). They are all classic films.

Future Boy

I think she did a father's day category last year. Isn't that what lead to The Hunt for Red October reaction? (maybe I'm remembering this wrong...) But her dad seems to have great taste, so I'd have no problems with another one!

G

I hope Cassie does a Rewatch Reaction for movies she has seen, but Carly hasn't seen yet.

Future Boy

I am desperately waiting for a Misery reaction. It would be a great film for Cassie to watch with Carly too!

Rose

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)

Ken Langston

Other great Demi Moore performances include Ghost, GI Jane, About Last Night and St. Elmo's fire.

Michael Lynch

Yeah his real life antics should never get in the way of if you like his movies. There's a reason he is so popular, and that's because he is an incredible movie star. Super charismatic, great acting, does his own crazy stunts that only Jackie Chan can equal or surpass. Tom has a lot of great movies.

Zachary Carter

Literally can't wait for My Cousin Vinny.

Gábor Árki

You're right, it seems The Hunt for Red October was a result from such poll. In my defense I wasn't around then, but I did notice Cassie mentioning her dad's favorites on multiple occasions and all were really good movies.

Jon Johns

She's seen "Edge of Tomorrow", Here's a list of everything Cassie has seen, even before she started her "First Time Watching" channel. Check out her Letterboxd page: https://letterboxd.com/pib1/films/by/name/

Jon Johns

I think she'll watch all the M:I films, I cannot recall if Carly has already seen them? But I kind of remember them talking about those movies once... She would like them, because they are basically 'heist' films, with a lot of 'spy stuff' -- but IMHO they are just very very well made action-popcorn films.

Jon Johns

I'd like to add a wrinkle to this... Have Dad join in on a live watch-along via Twitch...

Jon Johns

OH NO! I just watched it, and it was fine :-( I hope you get it to work soon, its a GREAT reaction!

Jon Johns

Rasmus, Here's a list of everything Cassie has seen, even before she started her "First Time Watching" channel. Check out her Letterboxd page: https://letterboxd.com/pib1/films/by/name/

Jon Johns

Cassie, You asked about Military Lawyers (You said "Army" but I think I knew you meant the more general term, "Military") You usually either got to law school on scholarship with the obligation to serve a period of time in the military, or you join the military after law school. All those lawyers were soldiers, or airmen, or marines, or sailors, but, of course, Officers in their respective services. Kaffee was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, the equivalent of a Captain in the Army, or Air Force. And Jo was a Commander, or a Major in the Army or Air Force. She outranked him by '1'.

Gábor Árki

I really like this movie. It is definitely one of the best courtroom dramas ever but it also provides a great experience from an investigation aspect as the events are slowly pieced together. Also it does bring up an interesting moral dilemma as the two Marines were put into an impossible situation. Following the orders meant they conduct a behavior unbecoming a Marine even if it didn't result in accidental death, but disobeying the order wasn't really an option for them either as a true Marine. Even though I've seen it multiple times already it is still a great experience to rewatch it. The entire cast does a great job but I think it is Nicholson's Jessep that rises above the rest. That entire monologue of his is truly memorable and as a member of the audience you are just so satisfied when he feels completely cornered and just let's it all out. Cassie, it was a great reaction, I really enjoyed watching this again with you. It was funny to see that your comfort blanket lifted up completely within a minute after Nicholson first appeared on the screen. :D I would suggest to watch a movie from him where he is playing a likeable character. But on second thought it is not that easy to recommend one. I mean even his protagonist, likeable characters usually come with a weird package. Maybe Chinatown (1974), which I think you would enjoy being a detective story. Some interesting trivia: this movie lost against Unforgiven as best picture and Jack Nicholson lost against Gene Hackman as best supporting actor in Unforgiven portraying Little Bill.

XanderWhat

Whoops! Usually, I check, but when she was talking about Tom Cruise, for some reason I assumed she hadn't seen it

Terry Yelmene

I'm thrilled and will continue to watch Cassie react simply for the disbelief as she leans in, jaw gaped at the climatic point of a movie and the satisfied grin and sigh at the end. No-one quite invests herself like, and 'emotes' as sincerely as, PiB Cassie! This great reaction elevates a great movie. For Cassie specifically, I'd strongly suggest her next Tom Cruise move be: 'Jerry McGuire,' to see Jack Nicholson in a different ight from a different role; 'About Schmitt.' and to really hit her sweet spot, Demi Moore in; 'Ghost!'

Jason Dolan

JAG corps https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judge_Advocate_General%27s_Corps Every branch of the military has their own legal arm They made a TV show about it called JAG that ran from 95-05 and I think they created that show based on this movie's success, as it was nominated for Best Picture and Nicholson was also nominated for Supporting Actor.

Robert da Spruce

I believe Cassie has seen Jerry McGuire already. Here’s a list of the movies she has watched already. https://letterboxd.com/pib1/films/by/name/

Jason Dolan

Cassie needs to watch EASY RIDER so she can change her opinion on Jack Nicholson, who I am coming to realize through her eyes, played a LOT of villains in his career and even most of his heroes are anti-heroes, or severely flawed like ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST and CHINATOWN, among others.

Stick Figure Studios

Well, this was a blast. I really enjoyed watching this reaction. I knew you would love this film. I do, too. Have loved it ever since I saw it as an adolescent in the theater in 1992 (it's the movie that made me an Aaron Sorkin fan). I so wanted it to win best picture at the Oscars and for Nicholson to win best supporting actor. I was very disappointed when those awards were given to UNFORGIVEN and Gene Hackman.. but, to be fair, that was before I had seen Eastwood's movie. I now think the Academy made the right decision. As others have pointed out, I appreciate that you responded to the moral dilemma at the heart of the story and found compelling arguments on both sides. This is a major reason why I like this film as much as I do. Ultimately, I think the film resolves it's dilemma in a satisfying manner. I am very curious to see your reaction to A TIME TO KILL as that is another well-crafted courtroom drama that has equal (if not greater) moral fervor behind its story, but resolves it in, I think, a far more problematic way.

Shehab Dawoud

I'm sorry to say it but if you don't like Tom Cruise, you don't like cinema. Really simple. Leave aside the Scientology and other eccentricities, the guy is a superstar in every sense of the word. Handsome, charismatic, athletic, high energy. And on top of that, he's a great actor. His movie choices don't always give him the chance to demonstrate his acting chops but his dramatic roles are top tier. The Color of Money, Rain Man, Born On The 4th of July, Eyes Wide Shut, Magnolia, and Collateral will win you over for good if you're not already convinced, Cassie. He's one of the few actors that cinema will never be able to replace when he's gone. There's only one Thomas Cruise Mapother IV. Let's enjoy him while we still can.

Michael Lynch

This movie is so freaking excellent. You said everything you've seen of Jack Nicholson he's scary and. Here are two of his movies that are destined to make you love him. As Good as it gets and something's Gotta Give. He's excellent in everything he does.

Michael Lynch

She likes him now. She just never really watched his movies in the past so all she knew was his crazy real life antics. However with every movie she really loves him in it and she's realizing how great he is in his roles.

Shehab Dawoud

I mean, she’s seen him in quite a few things by now and she’s liked all of it. So when she continues to write that she’s "hesitant" I get a little bit confused and also annoyed.

Andrew Hogan

I think my favorite parts of the reviews now are Cassie’s alternate or added endings.

Andrew Hogan

I mean, say what you will about him as a person, but he’s pretty damn good in just about everything and puts the maximum amount of effort into his roles.

Andrew Hogan

God no, lol, I mean the Kathy Bates scene is reason enough not to watch it.

Andrew Hogan

A favorite of mine, I think Cassie would enjoy both of those, but not to do reactions to, too much of a commitment.

Jon Johns

Cheese, a workaround: try opening the video via Vimeo in a browser window, then using the download button to the right of the title.

Mr Jordan

My main takeaway is now whenever Cassie asks us for advice on something difficult or vexing, we can yell, "You can't handle the truth!" and she will get it, along with "Houston, we have a problem", "Use the Force", and "Yippie Ki Yay!"

Aaron Mann

Yes, she has seen Jerry Maguire. So instead, I think Rain Man would be right up Cassie's alley.

Mike LL

Chinatown was the film I was thinking of when she was talking about seeing a different side of Jack Nicholson. It is such a marvelous film and it was mentioned in the discussion for the Detective/Investigation Movie Poll, now I am surprised that it was not in the that poll, because it is one of the best detective stories I have ever seen.

Mike LL

This is a great movie that we really need right now. It was generally liked by all, and Cassie gave a great reaction and genuinely loved the movie. Here was a movie with a satisfying ending, and inspired Cassie to put her own imaginary cherries on top. It's great having everyone on the same page.

Patrick Reynolds

Well, it took me a while to get over Tom Curies arrogant and dickish behavior, but in the end it was worth it. I loved Cassie's reaction to the movie and I was laughing at her imagined lives of everyone after the end. However, I must say that if Tom Cruise and Demi Moore had "kissed in the rain" I would have thrown up. ;-)

Cole Jennett

I would hazard to say that they become much better starting with 3. I did like the first one but the second was cheesier then Armageddon, lol.

Terry Yelmene

How would I come to know if Cassie has seen Jerry McGuire on this resource??? There are hundreds of listings sortable by such non-functional criteria like release dates, not even an alpha order and most disappointing; no search for the users list? I'd really like to know if I don't want to waste inordinate amounts of time and my eyesight scrolling through hundreds of thumbnails... how is one supposed to learn whether Cassie has seen Jerry McGuire? Did you do something different / better to know this?

David Freese

The one thing I always remember about this movie is except for Nicholson and Sutherland characters, everyone had some redeeming qualities that needed to come out. Durning therapy 5 years ago my therapist made me watch and look at the characters and see what they learned about themselves durning the journey. So this film will always be there for me because it helped me through my depression back 5 years ago.

Julian San

The fan fiction at the end was hilarious! My personal fan fiction is that Caffey, after losing 10 years of his life because of this case, vows to NEVER again return to trial work and continues with his litigation record and is happily discharged from the Navy after his threes years are up. He retires from the law and coaches little league. Also, Jessup lawyers the hell up and through his contacts, easily gets acquitted and he later goes into the private sector, heading up an organization that deploys mercenaries to the highest bidder.

Cole Jennett

I have to admit I was wrong about this movie😔. I don’t remember it being nearly this good. Maybe it was watching with Cassie, but I think I must have been distracted when I saw it the first time. I can’t believe Jack Nicholson was only in like 3 scenes of the movie. His presence is massive throughout but his screentime couldn’t have been any more then Judy Dench in Shakespeare in Love. Probably the only reason he lost out to Gene Hackman in my opinion. And the “You don’t need a patch on your arm to have honour” WOW, great line and made me tear up.

Gábor Árki

It was in Poll A but didn't even make it to the final Detective/Investigation Movie Poll.

Jason Dolan

My Favorite SCREENPLAYS by Aaron Sorkin: A FEW GOOD MEN THE SOCIAL NETWORK MONEYBALL STEVE JOBS THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT And of course THE WEST WING ain't bad either.

Cole Jennett

I just watched Moneyball with my Dad last weekend, he’s never seen it. So great! I also love “The Newsroom” might be my top 3 shows all time.

Seymor Butz

Thank you for this. You may get creeped out by him but you have to admit.......jack can act. You need more Demi Moore. GHOST is a must with her and Patrick Swayze.

Robert da Spruce

Hi Terry. If you just click the link above, and don’t mess with any of the sort options, the list is on alphabetical order. Starting with numbers first. Then A-Z. It would be nice if the list was searchable. And not have to scroll through a bunch of pages to get to the title you’re looking for. But it beats no list at all. And having to guess if Cassie’s seen a movie or not. Hope this helps.

Gábor Árki

Why is release date non-functional? Not the greatest that there is no easy search functionality but once you google the release year of the movie filtering to 1996 leaves only 11 titles to go through: https://letterboxd.com/pib1/films/year/1996/by/date/

Phillip Ribbink

To answer your question at the beginning Cassie Guantanamo Bay also known as Gitmo is a Naval Base, that contains a Military Prison. The place has a notorious and unsavoury reputation as the prison where the US Military sends terrorists and their associates. There are a number of horror stories that have come out about the place, regarding the violation of human rights. Guantanamo is in Cuba, but is technically United State Soil, having been so since the US took it in 1898 during the Spanish American War. In 1934 the US arranged with the Cuban government to lease the land from them, until such a time the US abandoned the site or both nations agreed to end the lease. Even when the Cuban Revolution was won by Castro in 1959, the US maintained it's hold on the Bay. (Hence Jessup's talk about thousands of Cuban soldiers being trained to kill him).

Patrick Reynolds

Yes, I have to recommend "Terms of Endearment" as very good Jack Nicholson film. Cassie would love it.

Robin Craft

The scene where Danny does the impersonation of Col. Jessep's "I eat breakfast 300 yards away...." was ad-libbed by Cruise. Brilliant!

Björn Von Knorring

I think it's more or less confirmed that Santiago had a hearh condition and that his death was entirely accidental. Yes, Tom Cruise is a total nutcase but he is a d-mn good actor who has done so many good movies. I have learnt to try to separate actors as horrible people but do good movies.

Patrick Gibbs

Wait really? I gotta go look now. Is there really an Easter egg I haven’t noticed for a few decades? 😂

Aaron Mann

For me, I search by year. I figure out Jerry Maguire's release date (which was 1996), then go to the 1996 tab and see if it is listed there or not. A great resource for release dates is imdb.com

Dean Holt

Really glad you liked this one, happy that this and My Cousin Vinny won as they are two completely different courtroom movies. Also cant wait for you to see A Time to Kill. As regards to you watching movies that Jack Nicholson might not scare you in 😂. Check out The Bucket List, As Good as it Gets & Somethings Gotta Give the last two are rom coms so you might have already seen them.

Raven Dark

I had never seen this movie until now, and I have no idea why. It's was so, so good, and your reaction was fabulous. "Atten-hut! There's an officer on deck." I cried too, Cassie. I cried too.

Gideon James

We enjoyed this. Hey Cassie, if possible could you turn up your audio? And also extend the sync time out to at least 2 minutes? Thanks in advance!

ArsTropica

At first, I thought that the dishonorable discharge ruling was excessive, given the huge amount of power that Jessup had over the entire base and the cult-level pressure that the marines were under to follow orders, but I think it was a just sentence considering that someone died because they obeyed. I loved Cassie’s ending - As soon as she mentioned Tom Cruise & Demi Moore, I knew that babies would be involved.🐣🐣

David Poray

Going to try and watch this after work tonight. Hopefully I can stay awake.

ArsTropica

With 12 Oscar nominations, I don’t think Cassie has seen Nicholson’s best work yet. I recommend: Easy Rider Chinatown One flew over the cuckoo’s nest The Departed Witches of Eastwick

Seymor Butz

And if she wants his softer funny side she need to see anger management and the bucket list.

ArsTropica

I wasn’t going to say anything out of not wanting to offend people, but I don’t like Tom Cruise although, I do like his movies. I don’t know if that makes any sense. I think TC is one of the last career “movie stars” still working today. I respect him as a businessman who acts. The fact that he’s been working for over 40 years and for most of the time has dominated the box office is impressive. I think that his success is a product of strategy, formula and box office logic. He’s got a lot of power in Hollywood and can pretty much write his own ticket when it comes to getting the best roles, scripts and budget - because studios know how consistently bankable he is. I will always be entertained by the Tom cruise movie, but I may not learn anything from watching one.

Mike LL

See, I don't even remember it being in the poll! It should have done better!

David Crabtree

Great reaction to a great movie! And the thing about Jessop and his big speech at the end, he was absolutely right with what he said!

Shehab Dawoud

There's a reason why he's bankable and can write his own ticket, though. Some people have something special that goes beyond just their good looks and physique. For example, you would never mention The Rock in the same breath as Tom Cruise, even though they're both movie stars and nowadays largely play some other version of themselves on the screen. As I said, he's clearly made a choice of what type of movie he wants to make now, and they are the ones where he has to be less of an actor. It's his choice, he's earned the right to do it since he did other types a while ago. Think about it, the guy has had 3 primes during his career, that's nuts! I'd still like to see him mix it up because he could easily be a perennial Oscar nominee in the right movies. Will you learn much from Mission Impossible? Probably not. But that's not the goal anyway. But could you learn something from Born On The 4th, Eyes Wide Shut, Magnolia, or Collateral? Definitely.

Erik Daniel

Oh my gosh lol. Hard to pick a favorite movie but this is one of mine for sure. So excited to watch this later with you and I'm thrilled you're taking such a liking to this genre. A great court room drama is so engaging and interesting to watch. I also understand your hesitance about Tom but he really is a great actor and the only reason he reached the brand we now know as 'Tom Cruise' is because he worked his ass off through the 80's and 90's pumping out awesome movies. I will end this by apologizing for my future long comment after I watch this tonight. Between the guaranteed awesomeness Cassie will bring to the watch, which I will have to comment on, and my love for the movie (so much behind the scenes knowledge I had to remove 2 years of high school from my brain), the next comment will be a doozie. So, my sincere apologies.

Christopher B.

I'll second a strong recommendation for "The Firm", and while in the area of John Grisham adaptions, also continue to strongly recommend "The Rainmaker" as well.

JarHead0351

Good Movie - incase people want to know - yes there is Code Reds but is better known as Blanket Party as seen in Full Metal Jacket. This was a good solid lawyer/military movie. It shows how the JAG is somewhat difference for how a civilian law court room operates.

nick bell

Looking back , it's cheesier than I remember...but that's Sorkin. Still a fun movie with a great reaction. And Cruise has an impressive list of films to choose from

Robert da Spruce

Great reaction Cassie! I loved your “Return of the King” style epilogue at the end where you imagined how the characters ended up! 😀 Somehow, I get the feeling you do that in your head after every movie! 😉 Looking forward to your My Cousin Vinny and A Time to Kill reactions!

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Totally love Cassie's post script post credit conclusion! Any time I see Tom Cruise put in a solid performance I do have to refer to "Born On The Fourth Of July" just because I haven't seen anyone yet react to it and I think it's his best acting. Also, Sam, was Kevin Pollack, don't know if he was recognized as one of the guys in the crew in Usual Suspects. Final thought, Jessop was perfectly comfortable with throwing those Marines under the bus to avoid a scandal that would cost him a government position on the NSC, he was about protecting his career more than anything, but that's just my take.

Erik Daniel

just about to watch and it hit me...this is the perfect time to recommend the movie that reteamed writer Aaron Sorkin and Director Rob Reiner called "The American President". A top notch romantic comedy that Cassie would love.

Shawn Kildal

Misery was one of the most suspenseful movies I've ever seen. Hopefully one day Cassie will get around to it. She does own a copy of it.

Shawn Kildal

Trust me, I've poked and prodded her about The American President" and sent her a copy. I'm with you 100% on that one. She loved the West Wing which was done by Aaron Sorkin as well. I think it has great potential to become her top favorite

Timothy Burrows

I'll remember that as the first movie I bought my parents when I bought them their first DVD player.

Shawn Kildal

Another way to get to Cassie's letterboxd page and searchl the movies she's already seen is to go to her YouTube page, then click on ABOUT which is near her picture and scroll to the bottom and you'll see it there. To make my search easier I'll yell "Alexa, when was (name of movie) released?" to narrow my search

Shawn Kildal

Terms of Endearment would maybe help with Cassie's Jack Nicholson's anxiety

Brent Petty

Tom Cruise is great in Collateral.

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

I was so pleasantly surprised to see this posting. I wanted to see your reaction to this movie for quiet sometime and had to watch it this morning (ended up being late for work, but it was worth it). A superb movie and a superb reaction. This, along with your reaction to Predator (1987), are my favorite. Tom Cruise is one of the finest actors of my generation (80's and 90's). I recommend you check out Collateral (2004) and Interview with the Vampire (1994), where in the latter he shares the screen with none other than up and comer Brad Pitt. Another good one is Jack Reacher (2012). I was a bit surprised to know that this is the first time you watch Demi Moore. In that case, you're in for a wonderful surprise with Ghost (1990) alongside the late great Patrick Swayze. You recently watched Kevin Pollak (Sam) in the Usual Suspects. Rob Reiner is a great filmmaker. One of his films that might interest is The American President (1995) with Michael Douglas in the leading role. Speaking of Michael Douglas, you might want to check out Romancing the Stone (1984), a fun adventurous romantic comedy with Kathleen Turner. Speaking of 1984, I highly recommend you check out Beverly Hills Cop starring Eddie Murphy. One of the best action comedies of all time. You already watched the legends of 1984: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, The Terminator, and Ghostbusters. Check out the other two on this list from that year. You won't be disappointed. My favorite bits from your reaction to A Few Good Men include when you said "I guess a kiss in the rain was too much to ask for". That cracked me up. The other was every time Jack Nicholson was on screen. Your facial expressions were priceless. One final thought, I applaud your insight when you figured out why Danny (Cruise) pleaded "not guilty" during the arraignment. He was being setup to cut a deal with the prosecutor (Bacon) but outsmarted them. Kevin Bacon was so good in this one too. I always remember the look on his face when Jessup (Nicholson) admitted to ordering the Code Red. What a great movie! Fantastic post. Thank you for sharing it with us.

David Patterson

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the film that made Tom a household name, 'Risky Business' (1983). Reportedly, Sorkin was pressured by the studio to put more relationship stuff into the screenplay, which he did briefly, or else make Moore's character a man. But he insisted that women have a purpose other than to sleep with Tom Cruise.

MatthewBrown74m

I heard your gonna do a time to kill its a good movie hard movie to watch but good and my father worked on it he was the camera man he like working on it alot he told me stories about the actors and how he played pool with some of them lol

Sam R.

You are the best it's impossible for anyone to not like you. Right off the bat you had me smirking Robert De Niro 😀 and I think you figured it out the military has lawyers while enlisted in any branch Army Navy Airforce Marines Coastguard

Sam R.

They handle cases of men and women who are in service to the government and Country.

Sorry for multiple messages but I had to grab some food at the 30 min. mark and could not resist. This is is great so far, I love this movie and I knew from the jump because of your personality it would be interesting to see how you would react to Dawson and Downey. Santiago is of course easy to sympathize with, but because of your gigantic heart I knew you would feel for him more than most. Especially when seeing him eating lunch alone in the mess hall. So I knew you would be heavily against the accused (as you would be, they painted them as killers until Galloway and Caffey dug deeper) but when you heard that 'they were just going to shave his head' and that Dawson called the ambulance and said "oh" I was even more excited to see the case unfold through your eyes. First time I've chuckled through the ominous opening "this is scary music", lol oh Cassie it's ok. And still being haunted by Jack's eyebrows eh? lol, As soon as I get some money, one of my hopes with the stack of movies I'll be sending is that the Jack Nicholson movies I have lined up will help you see past The Shi**ng lol. Even though the very sight of him made you pull the blanket up to your neck lol, but I'ma try ha. Now back to the movie and maybe 1 more message, don't shoot me. But something I learned only a few years back Cassie, Demi is short for Demetria (I think..something like that) so emphasis on the I in Dem-I.

Erik Daniel

@Shawn Kildal for sure I'd put good money on that one cracking at least her top 20 rom coms. It is great romance with really great writing all around (Sorkin, so of course), I've left a comment or 2 about it as well. I'm sure she'll get to it and when the day arrives i'ma get some little caesars italian cheese bread for the occasion lol.

G

Cassie has seen a lot of psychological thrillers, and I say we need a Psychological Thriller Poll.

G

Yup, Cassie will love G.I. Jane.

Sean Novack

My father's favorite movies Cassie has already done, but there were several she hasn't. "Midway" (1976) was one of them.

Sean Novack

There was no intent to kill, therefore no "murder". A lesser charge of "Involuntary manslaughter" might have stuck, but the jury doesn't have the option to make that charge for the prosecution, and since the prosecution went with "Murder" and it was disproven then double-jeopardy was attached.

Sean Novack

Great film, but with a completely different vibe. The legalese is spot on though!

Sean Novack

Actually, he was a Lt (jg) He was a Lieutenant (Junior Grade), or an O2. The bar on his collar was silver and he had one and a half stripes on his sleeve and shoulder board. If he were a Lieutenant (O3) he would have had two silver bars on his collar (like Kevin Bacon's Captain Ross). Galloway was a Lt. Commander (04). She had two and a half stripes on her sleeve and shoulder board and a gold oak leaf for an insignia, The corresponding rank in the Army or the Marines would be Major. She had him by two grades. A lieutenant commander is a senior department officer or the executive officer (second-in-command) on many warships and smaller shore installation, or the commanding officer of a smaller ship/installation. They are also senior department officers in naval aviation squadrons.

Shawn Kildal

I love the psychological thrillers idea, at the same time I can already anticipate all the arguments of which movies are and are not qualified to make such a poll

Shawn Kildal

I think this might be the 1 of the few movies Tom Cruise isn't doing full on sprint running in. There's a YouTube video or videos that show an insane amount of films where he's doing some serious running

Shawn Kildal

She has One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest listed as a movie she's already seen as well

Kevin

When I think about The American President I always think about the movie Dave with Kevin Kline. I'm not sure why. Also, Sidney Ellen Wade is WAY out of my league! Ever since the movie came out it has been a joke in our family to say "We're walking... we're walking..." like the tour guide does.

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Jack: You want answers? Tom: I WANT THE TRUTH! Jack: YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH! Cassie: *baby gurgling sounds* It's a great scene, no doubt about it :)

William Bryan

Duct tape suffocation. What a way to go lol

William Bryan

Please tell me I'm not the only guy in here that would get immense pleasure in completely rearranging Cruise's face? He's a pretty boy yeah but I've heard he's a huge jerk on set lol

Opti_Frog

Yup, Tom Cruise is a terrible human being but a great actor.

Erik Daniel

@Kevin lol Sidney Ellen wade is WAY out of my league too lol. I am the same sir, Dave reminds me of The American President and Vice Versa. Dave is such a sweet movie and yes, Bonnie Hunt "we're walking we're walking" lol that's awesome.

AzraRillian

If you (or any patreons) are ever in the mood for more military courtroom/legal stories (not necessarily for the channel), the 90's tv show JAG is excellent for that, though it is kinda corny and cheesy (with it being VERY 90's tv show), it was widely popular for it's time, and even spun off the even more popular NCIS tv show later on. However if you want something a bit more lighthearted, The tv show Boston Legal is a hilarious legal comedy/drama, starring William Shatner and James Spader.

Bob Hanflig

Kevin Pollack who played Sam was the mechanic in the Usual Suspects.

kevin smith

Often times in movies there is not a “love story” no matter how much you may want there to be, and that’s ok.

Erik Daniel

BAHAHA so should we start pre-production of a Few Good Men 2 "A Few Good Men Again" (working title)? lol you are just like my Father was, dude wasn't satisfied unless things wrapped up with a perfect bow that he cosigned. Even if 2 romantic leads are obviously going to end up together or a situation is obviously going to be resolved, but we don't see it...NO! lol, he needed to see everything. haha your wrap up was the greatest thing ever "they kept their relationship secret at first but then came out to their families....but everyone already knew..." you make me laugh hah Late night last night so just finished watching. My Word that was so much fun. Seeing you get so into the case was incredible, you were on the edge of your seat as Cruise and Bacon were trying to 'out lawyer' each other. When Kendrick was on the stand "no food...that's a code red!!" lol you were so into it during that scene. And this is the only time I haven't been intently watching Jack During his final monologue lol, I was watching you during that part and you would have thought it was a car chase lol. Take note 'fast and furious cgi age of movies' (time and place for it), this film was people talking in a room, but with great dialogue and great acting that will have you on the edge of your seat. Not everything has to go boom boom. Anyways, I've seen this probably north of 200 times (realistically.....I know, sad...) but one of the many things I love about watching a movie with you is that everything has more weight to it. I've gotten used to Markinson offing himself but this time I felt it. -lastly a few comments/responses and facts about one of my favorite films Cassie - "Markinson! The guy I want!" Harrison "what?! ... Oh, ok I see." You had him worried lol speaking of Markinson, when he showed up in shadow in Danny's car, you scared the pants off me lol I sometimes forget you get scared at not scary things lol. Alright wrap it up kid, I'll leave it with a few behind the scenes facts from one of my favorites -Wolfgang Bodison who plays Harold Dawson, this was not only his first movie but his first time acting. He was Rob Reiner's production assistant on Misery (oh snap has Cassie been there yet?) and Reiner was having trouble casting the role of Dawson. As he tells it he was bemoaning the fact they couldn't find anyone the right size and stature that could play the role and right then Wolfgang walked by and Reiner said "we.....we need someone that looks like Wolfgang". And then Reiner followed that up with "Hey Wolfgang have you ever tried acting before" Wolfgang said ...'no'. When Reiner said "well why don't you try, just give it a shot see how it goes", in Wolfgang's own words "you don't say no to sometime like that so I said 'ok I'll give it a try'". So well done to you sir, went toe to toe with some of the best. -Cassie you remarked that you liked Sam Weinberg played by Kevin Pollak. To quote writer Aaron Sorkin "If there was a box score in the paper the day after a movie came out you would see how many assists this guy has". One of the best supporting role actors ever. You'll see him plenty as you continue your journey. Can't wait for Grumpy Old Men. In your 12 Angry Men reaction you mentioned confusing those 2 titles and then said Grumpy Old Men was 'an old not so great movie my Dad liked' or something to that effect. I remember thinking, 'oh dear, you are actually going to love that one'. -Tom Cruise (the actor lol) is a G. Reiner talked about how he had never worked with a more professional or prepared actor. He would literally run to the set when called. He would stay after 'like a kid in class' asking 'well how can we make this better, maybe try this?', stuff like that. -Jack Nicholson. People become legends for a reason I guess lol. For his closing monologue, he had to perform it several times before they even got to his coverage. As Kevin Bacon said 'most film actors/actresses save and save their stuff till it's their close up.' When they are off camera they will not be going at 100% because it is not 'their time to shine'. Some lazy actors won't even show up if they don't have many lines, they will just use a stand in. Goes without saying though actors will elevate each other, it doesn't help when you are giving it your all and your partner is off camera just reading off the page. Anyways, Jack was at 100 for every take. he had done the entire monologue like 5 times full blast so everyone else could get their coverage. Reiner even said "Jack maybe take it down a notch" to which Jack replied "you don't understand Rob, I'm an actor. I love to act. And this is one of the rare times when I have really great material". What a guy. -Fun fact about the scene with Kiefer driving the hummer in Cuba. Very wide vehicle and soldiers running on each side. The next day in the make up chair, writer Aaron Sorkin sits down beside Tom Cruise (Sorkin had a cameo as lawyer in bar that gives Danny his epiphany) and says to Tom "hey what's this, I hear Kiefer hit a guy with the Hummer yesterday?" Cruise said "uh, he hit about 15, 16 guys with the hummer yesterday" lol. Alright I think that's everything my lord. Except maybe turn your heat up, shall I send you more blankets in my movie package? lol. Sorry this was so long I love this movie, I love your reactions always, and I love ya (if it ends in 'ya' is it an official I love you? lol...you'll see, and I can't wait till we get there). Alright, sorry and don't worry, I am going to ban myself for a week for this essay.

Obie Brown

Didn’t read all that, so, happy for you ,or sorry about that.

Erik Daniel

@Giedeon James oh no...I'm that guy? lol the long message guy? or worse? Well my inner voice always tells me 'no one cares' when leaving comments (high self esteem i know lol) so that is all I needed. I will stay out of the comments and keep my 'wee little arse out of it' lol

Obie Brown

We are just teasing you, glad we all love movies and we love seeing Cassie enjoy them.

Erik Daniel

@Obie Brown thanks bud and I know. (self esteem, what I tell ya lol) but also not wrong. I will keep myself in check.

Shaun Ganyo

Dude! I've been long message guy! I don't feel bad, at all! The confluence of movie one loves, matched with Cassie loving same said movie is a magical experience, from where I sit! Embrace it!

Mike H

Absolutely impossible to not love you Cassie. I don't know if I liked this movie more in 92 or tonight with you. 💛

Erik Daniel

@Shaun Ganyo thanks bud. I'll try but my baseline is 'feel bad' lol. It's fun.

Obsolyeet

Demi Moore in GI Jane would be a logical next step if you wanted to see her on the screen more. It keeps the military theme and has an interesting storyline.

zynjams

please please please watch the Rainmaker since you liked this movie so much

My_Cousin_Mose

I've always enjoyed the film. Just watched it again last year and it held up.

Rose

If you want romance with Demi Moore, "Ghost" has been suggested but "About Last Night" with Rob Lowe is pretty good. Also for more romance - the Regency era Netflix series "Bridgerton" just released Season 2 - based on the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn (one of my fav romance novelists). Gorgeous sets, costumes & cinematography. Deviates too much from the books, but it's still fun. Yet Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond Chonicles is my ultimate romance and 6 yrs later I'm still waiting for Mammoth Screen's TV adaptation of this literary masterpiece.

Robin T

I had the great honor a few years ago to play Lt Weinberg on stage. And yes, this was a play before it was a movie. The original Broadway cast featured Tom Hulce (Amadeus) as Kaffee, then-unknown Clark Gregg (Agent Coulsen in the Marvel movies) in the Kevin Bacon role, and Stephen Lang (the bad guy military dude from Avatar) as Jessup.

Timothy Burrows

Imagine if they kept the scene in at the end where Demi Moore's character asks out Tom Cruise's character to a date at the end.

Jayson Phillips

You need to watch Men of Honor and Generals daughter!

brooke atkins

Never heard of that scene? Weird considering the director wanted no love or romance in this movie to clug up the storyline. He said he had no plans on making Demi and Tom a couple in the movie. Personally I love that choice. Not a big fan of romance movies or romcoms.

Doc Savage

Awwww yeah!! At last!

Ryan

Men of Honor sure, but GD could be traumatic. I'd make sure any Sister / Lady friend was WELL WARNED due to content

Ryan

Loved the "Head Canon" commentary at the end.

Mike Ortiz

1st off being an Army vet I want to thank you for mentioning the Army though we had no role in the movie it was Navy VS. Marines lol. This is a great court military drama and one thing people not in the military have to understand following orders is a very serious issue if you do not follow some orders you can get court marshalled and dishonorably discharged from your military post. Demi Moore has been around for a very long time I remember her in a soap opera my mom used to watch in the 80s called General Hospital for a couple of years from 82 to 84. She was also married to Bruce Willis before Ashton lol. Im surprised being a romcom kinda gal you havent seen "Ghost" with the late Patrick Swayze if you havent seen it then you have to see it but knowing you you will need tissues! 2 other films you should see are "Philadelphia" a court drama that earned Tom Hanks an Oscar and the other is "JFK" with Kevin Costner a great movie with an all star cast! Great reaction Cassie!!!

Tara

Hey Cassie, I’m having fun rewatching some of your reactions again. I hope you have “The Rainmaker” on your short list for Courtroom movies. If you want to see Jack Nicholson where he is not playing a scary character, add “Something’s Gotta Give” which is a rom-com drama and costars Keanu Reeves. Another good one is “As Good As It Gets” with Helen Hunt from Twister.
