I'm so glad you uploaded this. I know you said it doesn't generate as many YT views but the Firefly content is what drew me to your page originally. I enjoy your other reactions a lot, but I may not have even seen them if it wasn't for Firefly. I watched it when it originally aired and I'm so glad to see more people finding out about it and enjoying it.

I'm currently watching this on DVD since I've never seen it to catch up with your reaction.

I'd seen Firefly, but I'd just never really found the time to sit down and watch Serenity. I watched it specifically to prepare for this reaction and I absolutely loved it. Honestly I felt it was the perfect wrap up for the series, outside of the show actually continuing and having a proper finale. My only real complaint about the movie was that it more or less erased Simon being unaware of what the Alliance was doing with River. Which when the show ended was a huge mystery. But I also get why they made that change. Also first time seeing the Reavers, they did not disappoint in living up to their reputation. They were just as terrifying as you would imagine them to be, based on the level of fear the characters always display at the mere mention of them. I know the Orcs from Lord of the Rings scared you Cassie, but honestly I think the Reavers are way more terrifying.

For more Alan Tudyk watch his currently running series "Resident Alien." Season 1 played at the beginning of last year. Season 2 drops on Jan. 26. Tudyk plays an alien who, forced to land on Earth, must disguise himself as human while searching for a part lost in the crash,

Fun fact: The firefly story continues in comic book form. That’s where you find out that one of the reasons Zoe keeps on surviving is the she’s pregnant. So a part of Wash still lives in the ‘verse.

I hope that this finally taught us that a mantra is not a talisman. "I am a leaf on the wind; watch how I soar." "I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me." :-/

A few years after Serenity, Joss Whedon filmed Much Ado About Nothing (2012), Shakespeare's romantic comedy. It's a very bare-bones production, filmed in 12 days, in black and white, at Whedon's own house. Most of the actors are Whedon regulars. The Firefly representatives are Sean Maher (Simon) in the role of Don John (Whedon supposedly offered him the role after learning he had never played a villain before) and Nathan Fillion (Mal) in the minor comedic role of the constable. (I think Fillion nailed his part, as opposed to what I consider Michael Keaton's baffling portrayal in Kenneth Branaugh's otherwise excellent 1993 version.) Cassie, if you're not too frightened of Shakespeare, I recommend this one.

True: Book and many of the Gang's friends and contacts get murdered We find out nearly all of Miranda's 30 million inhabitants died An untold number of Alliance soldiers and Reavers get killed in battle Wash dies Zoe gets badly slashed Jayne gets shot Jewel gets hit by poisoned darts Simon gets shot Mal and the Operative severely injure each other And lest you forget, Wash dies. But amidst all this death and carnage, it is important we not forget the true victim in all of this: River. The poor girl swallowed a bug!!!

Yes! And I know it's difficult to remember, but this was the same type of weapon used in the Matrix to eliminate those flying squid machines. -Jon

Fillion had never done any Shakespeare and told Whedon he was very nervous and feared he didn't know how to approach Dogberry. The "I am a wise fellow" speech probably was troubling him in particular. Whedon's solution, to have Dogberry give the speech after Conrade is taken off, may have been prompted by Fillion's nervousness about the monologue, or it may have been because Conrade was played by a woman in this production.

James Little

Operative: "There's a lot of innocent people dying up there." Mal: "You have no idea who true that is." - The reavers were normal people with families and friends before the Alliance used chemical warfare to enslave the population. 90% of the population gave up and died. 10% went insane. The reavers are also INNOCENT. Every one of them that dies is an innocent death. Everyone they mutilate, rape, eat, murder are also dead by the hand of the Alliance.

Simon: My one regret in all of this is never being with you. Kaylee: With me? You mean to say as ... sex? Simon: I mean to say. Cassie and others have expressed discontent regarding this exchange. I present the following passage from The Opposite of Sex for your consideration: "Say the point of sex isn't recreation or procreation or any of that stuff. Say it's concentration. Say it's supposed to focus your attention on the person you're sleeping with, like biological highlighter."

Jay

That does sound liker something Simon would say, and it would get the same reaction as every other thing he says to Kaylee.
