All the talk about popcornrequests.com made me go back to check it out again. After adding some requests of my own, and adding to the requests for many others, I had some thoughts. While checking out the bottom of the list I noticed that 1) there's a lot of garbage down there, and 2) there's also a surprising number of really good/great movies and shows too. so take some time and check out the bottom of the list or the good stuff will stay down there. @ Bjorn - I Showed some Love to a certain Swedish film.

Here's my take Cassie. You don't just enjoy movies. You LOVE movies. That's why Tom Cruise reached out to you. He's a guy who LOVES movies. Not all movie stars do. Arnold Schwarzenegger does. Robert Redford did. Not all directors do. Quentin Tarantino does. Scorsese does. There's a kind of magic in the greatest movie moments and in the greatest movies that is distinct from just being entertaining. There are moments when it all comes together: the script, the acting, the direction, the camera, the music; those moments are what make it a unique art form. Sometimes the moments are short. Sometimes they're longer, but they all are The end of Casablanca. Gene Kelly dancing in the rain. The march in to camp in Bridge on the River Kwai. "Kid, the next time I say let's go someplace like Bolivia, let's go someplace like Bolivia." The shower scene in Psycho. Superman flying up the side of the Empire State Building just in time to rescue Lois Lane. "I do wish we could chat longer, but I'm having an old friend for dinner." Everything with Eli Wallach in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly THAT's what we want to see you react to. THOSE moments. Hollywood has made a lot of entertainment. It hasn't made nearly so much movie magic. Fortunately, there's plenty out there. The question is: how do you separate movies that a lot of people have seen and enjoyed from those movies that give you E.T. flying across the moon or the revelation of Keyser Soze or just about any moment of Star Wars A New Hope? There's a short answer. You don't ask people. I'm not even thinking you should ask me. You go to the people who know. Roger Ebert's "The Great Movies" or the AFI Top 100 lists. Timeout.com. Anyone who deals with this stuff for a living? Their lists. Also, "Charade". If you've never seen "Charade" before. See "Charade".
