But only as reference! Don't worry - I'll always be a 2D guy!

For the current and future projects, I have all the sets and locations built in (rather crude) 3D, as you may know. I made 3D ships for the R-Type film, but I've never been able to model people. Since it would be pretty useful to have 3D standins on my sets so I can keep track of who is standing where and maintain continuity, I figured having some low-poly 3D people would be pretty beneficial, and spent my Sunday off learning the basics, just following the above video process.

Here's my day one progress!

Here's one of Maki's sketches that she did based on one of my sketches that I did based on an earlier one of my sketches that I was working from:

The attached video isn't a tutorial per se, but if you're slightly familiar with Cinema 4D's tools then maybe you can follow along like I did.

Hope you're all having a good week so far!

Paul.

I can't remember the name of the anime but there is a shounen anime that uses 3D for previzualization and then the artists trace and animate over that as the constantly moving camera and off angles would be a nightmare on the schedule otherwise.

Hardly unreasonable, it'll help save time especially on tricky angles or some crowd scenes or just whatevers.
