I'm so thrilled that you love this one as much as I do. I also love VIII—it's in my top 3 of the entire series—precisely because Rian Johnson disrupts some of the mythology. A lot of other people found that heretical, so J.J. came back and retconned IX beyond repair (that's a thing on which most people actually DO agree). So anyway, I don't want to taint your impressions of the sequels with a bunch of fandom baggage, but I'm soooooo interested to see where you land on The Last Jedi.

Ep 7 (and 8, to a degree) are like big, beautifully wrapped, mystery gift boxes. They’re a lot of fun to tear open, wondering what magical treats lay inside. Until you get to 9 and actually see what’s been hiding in this wonder box the whole time. Or rather, what was shoved last minute into the box as you were opening it.
