1. Little bit of sibilance happening in your mic. 2. I immediately get nervous when I see your studio title card doesn't match mine after the experience with The Producers.

I'm still at the first five minutes but I predict you're really going to enjoy Meg Ryan in this.

Well shoot, you ended up loving it. I'm glad/surprised, and more so, I no longer feel that slight twinge of guilt for having voted for it.

I actually have had a degree of that bad health/bad job experience. I worked for several years for a certain huge toy company that has also used its IP to produce many bad films (I'll leave you to guess). At the same time I was grinding my teeth so badly at night I had to get a rather expensive mouth guard. After I quit, no more grinding.

The trunks are airtight sealed. The salesman made a point to mention it.

The ocean scenes were shot in a tank at what is now Sony Studios here in Culver.

I’ve always loved this movie. It’s one of Tom Hanks very underrated movies.

Here's the value in what watching these reactions is...I saw Joe versus The Volcano in 1990 or 91, didn't get much from it (but I was in high school, so that's to be expected). Saw it again a few years later, but probably still in the 1990s, and recognized its charm but took very little away from it still. Watching it now, over 20 years later, through your first-time watch perspective, I realize exactly how wonderful it is and that it's important to revisit things because our receptivity and perception grows and changes throughout life. So thank you for not listening to me and watching this movie anyway, because wow it was such a great experience.

Shanelle: "He reminds me of Nathan Lane." because... it is Nathan Lane. Loved the reaction, love this movie. It's in my top five favorites of all time.

Okay. I joined your Patreon to watch your full-length reaction video to this movie. As I mentioned on YouTube, this is one of my favorites, and always has been since it came out. When it came out, I didn't know who Meg Ryan was at first. I didn't recognize that DeDe or Angelica were her.

Stuff I liked: The lightning bolt/crooked road motif. It's also the logo of the company. DeDe was all closed off. When she held hands with Joe, hers was in a fist. Patricia's hand started in a fist, but opened up to take his hand. The first two Meg's, I think, represented where he was in his journey. Closed off, trapped at first. Confused, and possibly angry in the middle. And, then open, and accepting at the end. Kind of like the different Megs.

Okay... this doesn't let you do a carriage return. I'm sure someone else also mentioned it, but Robinson Crusoe is a castaway type adventure on an island. It's one of those old classic literature stories. Robinson Crusoe, and his man, Friday. Worth the read. I'm sure there's a decent movie adaptation of it. My wife's favorite is Robinson Crusoe on Mars.

Okay. I just wanted to say thank you for your reaction to this movie. Now that I'm Patreoning, I'll check out some of your other full-length reactions. I found your channel on the Star Wars reaction. It's a long story, and I won't bore you with it. Suffice it to say that up until a few months ago, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a reaction video. But, they've turned out to be kind of fun. It's like you said one of your subscribers had mentioned. Covid ruined going out to see movies with folks. This is kind of like doing that, and it's nice. I appreciate your filmmaker-centric perspective. I've been enjoying movies, well... I guess all my life. I like them more than my wife does. But, we enjoy our share of them together. Joe vs. the Volcano is one. We saw it in the theater when it came out, which was the year after we were married. So, we've been watching it for... 31 years now? It's a fun movie. Oh... one last thing before I wrap it up for the evening. You always sound so concerned about being critical of a movie. Don't worry about it. We love movies, and we would love it if you loved them, too. But, that's because we like you. But, if you don't love them the way we do, that's okay. Because... we like you! See? Not everyone loves the same things, and that's okay. My wife and I mostly have similar tastes in movies. But, we also diverge in places. So, she'll watch something I'm not interested in, and I'll either watch it with her (you know... expand the old horizons) or I'll read a book. And, it goes the other way. I'll watch something she's not interested in, and she does the same. But, in the end, we still love each other. Don't worry if your reactions don't please us all. Ah... says right under the box, Shift+return to add a line. *doh!* Ah, well. I hope you have a pleasant evening. And, we'll see you on the next one.

yes!! I felt this way about Moonstruck! I had a bad first time watching it when I was like ~20, because I really didn't get what he was going for. I'm totally ready to re-watch that one with my new older brain haha

shanellericcio

In the wide shots I'm like oh that's her face! then in the close ups as DeeDee I'm like wait? Is it!? haha they did a great job with her wardrobe/makeup

I could go on and on about how lacking Patreon's commenting system is. But I have found a workaround for making paragraph breaks: Hold down the SHIFT key while pressing ENTER/RETURN. (This might not work on a phone, however.)

Yay I'm so happy you and your wife like this one!! I REALLY don't want to be critical of a movie knowing how hard it is to make one, and that I also have aspirations to make them too -- I stop myself from putting out my bad films all the time, because it's really one thing to have an opinion on them and a totally other super power to make them. My concern definitely comes from *Some* hate comments, but also just because I want to make art!! haha it's a really delicate balance but I'm thankful you get it! (and the whole Patreon for that matter) they aren't off-put by me not loving something. SO I thank you for saying these things here :)
