Yes, it is supposed to be "anytown" USA, but it's filmed in Austin, TX and was loosely based on his own experiences, which I think would be Huntsville, TX (just outside of Houston).

One thing I see inaccurate about the setting, I remember 1976, the bicentennial, I mean I was 7 at the time, but I remember EVERYTHING was red, white, and blue. Like every second or third kid would have a red/white/blue shirt, many with the 76 emblem, there would be bunting and banners everywhere around town. You don't really see that in this movie.

Yes, it's Ben. You have GOT to watch Making Dazed. About the making of this movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaHQlsRNr6s I think you would really appreciate it. You don't necessarily have to react to it (though that would be kind of cool) but just watch it. Many of your questions are answered.

"Air Raid" was earlier when they were making the girls get down on the ground. One of the seniors yell air raid and they'd all hit the deck. When they were pouring ketchup and mustard and stuff all over them.

So glad you loved this. I watch a lot of reactors, and I think this is the first movie reaction I've watched all the way through.

OMG! You're one of the only people I've seen who caught that his belt buckle was a one-hitter on the first viewing! Hat's off to you. Good attention to the scene.

Such a great reaction! This actually is my favorite movie of all time!

SO happy to watch this one with you. This was a turning point movie for me because I saw it in the summer of 1994... when "I" was a freshman in high school. Growing up with classic rock all around me, it was also a cool look into my dad's world as he grew up in a small southern town and would have been closest to Mitch in look. Just such a tremendously underrated film..
