The Sin Bin- Okay... so I enjoy this episode overall. However, once again... I feel like the storylines could be stronger. While Lucifer is great in his interactions with the supposed Sinnerman, I really don't like the character who is claiming to be the Sinnerman throughout this episode. His character intrigued me in the brief scene we see him in the previous episode, but upon him becoming a bigger character in this episode, he annoys me more than anything else. And I feel like it's mostly because I could sense right away that he was more of a pointless thug working for the real Sinnerman when I first watched this episode, rather than him being the true villain. Not because the actor playing this character is bad by any means. Because he's really good and both he and Tom Ellis play off one another pretty well. It's just that to me... it wasn't at all surprising that my instinct to believe he was working for someone else was right when he says so in the end. I felt the writers made this a little too obvious. At least for me. The Sinnerman's acting felt too off for him to be the big bad. But with this being said... my favorite scene comes in the end with the big reveal, as we learn that Pierce is more than who he has claimed to be all this time until now. Which I will come back to shortly... First... I enjoy the opening scene between Lucifer and Maze like I typically do. And like usual, Lucifer unfortunately jumps the gun by thinking all is well now that the supposed Sinnerman has been apprehended. However, Maze tries to convince him that something doesn't feel right, given that his apprehension seems too easy. And that this Sinnerman could be much more of a threat to him than he realizes. And like always, Lucifer fails to listen to her and chooses to ignore his true instincts like usual, and goes off to join those partying in his club for the evening. Once again... Ella gets on my nerves as she continues to gush over Pierce, but I do appreciate that she still holds true to her character when she wants to offer him a hug upon learning that the Sinnerman had killed Pierce's brother. I wish it was any other character she becomes concerned for, but that's just me. Chloe later uses her love to give hugs to the team's advantage by trying to make Ella a distraction against Pierce so that she and Lucifer can break the Sinnerman out upon them learning there's a woman in dire danger and who needs their help in less time than they have to go through all the proper protocols. But of course... Pierce is on to them and is already waiting for them and the Sinnerman to arrive inside the bomb squad's van when Chloe and Lucifer arrive. I love that Pierce is smart and clever enough to know what they're up to. And while I understand why Chloe has Lucifer plant a fake bomb at Dan's desk to use him to their advantage too, again I feel badly for Dan. And I think it's wrong of them to scare him like this, especially after he had once been sent a dead man's head too. Even if their intentions are for good reason. Plus.. I would have liked it if Dan was in on their plan instead. I just always love seeing Chloe and Lucifer working with Dan and Ella, not using them without filling them in on their plans. Next... I appreciate how Chloe swiftly goes into the interrogation room to interrogate their prisoner while Pierce and Lucifer are arguing over who's going inside to talk to him. I hate that Pierce thinks he's the best one to do so given his history with the man, and then tries to use his title to reiterate his stand. Especially because like Lucifer says... Pierce is after all the last of them who should be stepping in given that the Sinnerman supposedly killed his brother. Now... while the overall case is a bit boring to me, I really enjoy the scenes with Lucifer and Chloe at the Roller Derby, as they work together to catch their next suspect who is one of the skater girls on one of the teams competing that evening. These scenes are a lot of fun, especially when Lucifer finally brings the skater down by pouring beer on the floor in front of her in order to get her to slip and fall. Oh... and I love how one of the girls' Derby names is Helena Handbasket, or Hell in a Handbasket. Very funny. As for Lucifer kidnapping the Sinnerman so he can interrogate him himself once he takes the criminal to another of his homes outside of the city... while I love Lucifer's overall interrogation of the Sinnerman, and I do understand why Lucifer does so in order to discover how the Sinnerman has supposedly stolen his Devil face and forces his wings on his back continuously, I hate that Lucifer once again goes against Chloe and abducts him for his own agenda. I hate seeing Chloe so angry and disappointed in Lucifer at the end of this episode. She is right to be so because Lucifer is definitely in the wrong. I just hating seeing them work against one another and seeing her so angry and untrusting of him. It hurts more than anything else because I love them together so much. But more so... while Lucifer is definitely in the wrong for taking the criminal for his own selfish reasons and for going against her, it annoys me that Chloe doesn't ever once allow Lucifer to explain, or even try to understand what he's trying to tell her. She's angry, but she really should have tried to understand why he did as he did, and I wish she had. However, I appreciate that upon Lucifer coming to the conclusion that he needs to kill the Sinnerman... the very first human he would ever kill if he were to do so, so that he can get his Devil face back and his wings permanently removed by incurring God's wrath once again, we see just how much good is in Lucifer when we see and he comes to see that he can't actually kill even this man he has come to hate so much. And you can really see the torment in Lucifer's eyes as Lucifer is wrestling with his desire to kill him, and with his conscience, which I also really love. I love seeing Lucifer come to understand this about himself. Moments like this for Lucifer are always phenomenal, because they remind us that he isn't the Devil like the world and even he himself believes himself to be. Moments like these are always really powerful for his character. In the end... Lucifer can't kill him, and it's then that the Sinnerman's attitude towards Lucifer suddenly changes in a way we don't expect, as the Sinnerman then begs Lucifer to fulfill his role as the Devil and to kill him, proving that someone is actually pulling his strings like I somewhat expected, given that his capture felt far too easy. I also love how Lucifer figures out this man's real desire, in spite of being able to pull it out of him his usual way thanks to the Sinnerman blinding himself. And we learn that this criminal wants to die, but only at Lucifer's hand, after which Lucifer comes to learn that he has fallen into the trap that has been set up solely for him since the introduction of the Sinnerman. Unfortunately, Pierce arrives before Lucifer can get further answers and suddenly kills the Sinnerman before he gives up anymore information, which makes Lucifer very angry, and once again more and more suspicious of Pierce like I have been since the premiere episode. In spite of his explanation to Chloe that he did so to save Lucifer, and Chloe's anger towards Lucifer and her distrust in him, causing her to believe Pierce's words about saving Lucifer and killing the bad guy to stop him from killing anyone else like he killed his brother... I immediately couldn't help but suspect that Pierce isn't the self righteous hero he claims to be. The killer's death seems too convenient and Pierce is far too smug about having killed him. I've never trusted or liked him, but this incident most certainly makes me dislike him all the more. And I especially hate him more for hurting Ella by yelling at her to shut up. She can be a bit overbearing and too much at times, but I love her and so to see him hurt her like this makes me all the more angry with him. Once again... Pierce is seen as a hero by everyone at the precinct, including Chloe and Ella, and Ella praises him even more, which I really, really hate. Thankfully...Lucifer sees right through Pierce and begins to investigate what he senses was off upon Pierce killing the Sinnerman before he could get answers from him. And this leads to the very end, and this episode's big revelation... When Lucifer discovers a photo of the Sinnerman from when he was a young boy among his things at the precinct, he discovers a mark on the arm of a man who is seen holding the boy... a man whom we only see the arm of within the photo. However, Lucifer immediately recognizes the mark to look exactly like the one hidden beneath Pierce's tattoo. Later that evening... Lucifer invites Pierce to his penthouse to talk with him, then suddenly thrusts a knife into Pierce's chest to kill him in order to prove that Pierce is actually an immortal, which completely takes me by surprise... as we think he's suddenly killed a man and the Lieutenant no less. However, Lucifer then demands that Pierce get back up and within a few moments, Pierce suddenly comes to just like Lucifer believes he would, and it's revealed that Pierce is an immortal doomed to walk the Earth for all eternity upon him becoming the world's first murderer... as Cain is known to have killed his own brother, just like Pierce had accused the Sinnerman of being the one who killed his brother. And this actually reveals to us that Pierce has been the true Sinnerman all along, pulling his stooge's strings. Because in truth... Cain killed his brother, Abel. Not this thug. I love that he is the world's first murderer... Cain. I may hate Pierce so far, but this is a fantastic twist I wasn't expecting. It's absolutely brilliant!! And lastly... I also really love the side story between Dan, Charlotte, and Trixie, as Trixie becomes her father's wingman by helping set him up on a date with Charlotte after she and Charlotte spend the day together when her babysitter is unable to look after her anymore, on account of her apparent death, if I understood Dan's meaning upon him wishing the person on the phone his condolences. So cute! And I love seeing Dan and Charlotte grow closer too. :) Overall... this episode is just okay, but the ending between Lucifer and Pierce is most definitely my favorite scene throughout the entire episode. And now... Lucifer has questions for Cain that he is most certainly determined to get. Thank you again for another fun reaction, dear friend!! Onto the next episode, which I really love.
