tl;dr - Lots and lots of writing!

This week's image

Should I be showing you this already? Eh, maybe not, but this is from the most easy to get ending, so maybe it's one of the less spoilery scenarios. If you're a player who can't make anything work in the game this is the ending you'll get.

I'm glad I delayed Let Me Out rather than making it back when we initially passed the funding goal. I didn't mean to delay quite this long, but that was just because I had to get PAL right before releasing it. Anyway, I have some pictures from LMO from not all that long ago, probably early 2016, and they look far inferior to what I'm making now. Of course, I'd like the images in PAL to be better too, but there's no way around that - it was a long process and I was still learning. I'm still learning now, but I'm further along and I can create better results.

One small thing, after making the first version of this I ran it by a few other art people and there were some objections (and a minor argument) over her facial expression. This is the eventual fixed version that resulted. All of this is a long way of saying that if any pictures I show you don't look quite right - if they look uncanny or just odd, let me know. I'll try to fix them and I know the system well enough now that I can often solve those problems.

LMO writing

It's been interesting to get back into 'writing mode'. It feels like time just flies when I'm writing, the day just disappears. But it's good too, this is actually, more than anything else, the reason why I do this - I'm a writer. :)

I've been writing Let Me Out, as I mentioned last week, through the medium of a live AIF with EFon. It's a little harder than it might sound. I would say that Let Me In had at least 250 responses and that was a distinctly more minimalist game than LMO. I've got a lot more to do, but it's going okay so far. How much more is needed? Well, still quite a bit. I've got a good start on it, though.

PAT writing

I also wrote up a scene I'm really happy with for Pervert Action: Timelapse. I haven't officially started writing the story yet, I'm just planning it, but I wanted to mention what I wrote just as a little bit of an insight into the process. I'm in the design stage, mostly, and one of the central things that the design stage needs from a writing perspective is a clear and definite feel on the motivations and nature of all the characters.

I did a little bit of research about certain... uh, sexual preferences and how people can explain them. I won't get too specific because I don't want to give spoilers; basically I'm just trying to make the female characters' behaviour believable, as is always a central challenge of writing what I do. I felt like I really tapped into their motivations really well in this particular scene so now I think I will have a good idea how to develop them in the future. I was also having trouble imagining how certain characters would work together, but now I think I have that problem under control.

Okay, that was all pretty vague. Basically I wrote a scene that gave me a better insight into Emi and Nobuko, so now I feel like I really know how those two characters work very well. That doesn't mean I've got all the problems solved, but I do think I know what I'm doing now.

...And more writing

Beyond those tasks I've been asked to write some sex text for someone else's game. I'll make sure to keep working on LMO, of course, but I'm in writing mode so I don't think it'll be too hard to fit in. :) I do really want to get a playable version of LMO ready ASAP so I'm not going to get too distracted if I can help it.

Surely your images are way better than 1 year ago, it's difficult to imagine than in another year you can progress another time so much but good luck for any improvements and I will glad to be stupefied.

BBBen

I hope I can keep improving that much! Over the last year I've been learning about how to use the Iray light rendering system and expanding my 3D asset collection, so I doubt I can make such big improvements again, but there's definitely a lot of improvements I can still make.
