You may have noticed in all the shots I've shown for PAT that I'm now using much more complex and pretty background environments. This is basically because, since passing the 'no more penny pinching' funding goal (thanks to your support!) I've been investing in high quality visual assets for the environments to make the scenes look and feel way more real. This isn't the best image I've ever made but I just mocked it up to test the set; incidentally, this particular city environment is a huge set that will allow me to depict many different street scenes and backgrounds, not just this little subway entrance.

In short, I'm not planning on using any sub-par 3D assets this time around. During the course of making PAL I've also grown a lot more capable at the process of creating game art, so between the better 3D assets and me being better at my job you can expect a higher visual standard in future. I made some pictures I'm quite proud of for PAL, of course, but my successes and failures in PAL have taught me a lot about what to do, what not to and where I need to invest a little money.

A random thought - do you care whether I'm consistent about making the locations feel 'Japanese'? I ask because a lot of the locations I plan to use have English language signs or just feel like they're in America, but some may be more Japanese. Let me know if you think that would be jarring.

What do you think? Are you as excited about these cool new assets as I am? Probably not, I'm very excited, but if you've got any comments or questions please post them below!

Absolutely, I am excited, too! A nice environment does add a lot to the overall quality of the renders! I think it's definitely a good investment :) As for japanese style mixed with western, I don't really mind at all either. As long as it fits with your story (it is a fictional world after all) then it's all good! keep up the great work!

Not sure where else to ask this, but I came across an old game of yours called a Goblin's Life but now I can't seem to find it. I came across one version of it from a review site but when I try to open it it asks for a password. Help?
