tl;dr - Fumi sex scene almost done, other programming done too, new update for ADRIFT improves the game, my Iray computer is still in the shop.

Today's image:

Fumi, naked, admiring herself in front of the mirror.

There's some new voyeur scenes in the upcoming alpha version, including this one. You'll also be seeing a lot more of Fumi, and finding out a lot more about her, since her sex scene will be the next one to be unlocked.

This image is by Phinn, by the way; though I've discussed why Phinn can't contribute any more images than he's already done, there are a whole bunch of Fumi images he's made that you haven't seen yet, and will be showing up in the sex scene.

Fumi sex scene progress:

I've completed the programming for the Fumi sex scene, as well as all the voice editing that needed to go along with it. While I will be reworking/adding a few more pictures, for the most part the images are also done and they have been inserted into the game.

The only thing holding that scene up now is some unwritten passages in some of the main sex actions, which means if I was to release the alpha now you would probably find the scene a little frustrating. Until we've finished writing those main sex responses I won't release the next alpha, but hopefully that won't take very long.

Other programming:

I've been working on doing more programming (and some little bits of writing) beyond the Fumi sex scene as well. I've decided that my focus for now, while I'm awaiting the return of my computer and still getting around to finishing up the Fumi sex scene writing, will be to make the tasks for all the other sex scenes (or at least the one-on-one scenes). I've actually completed the tasks for the Masami sex scene, although that won't be playable or accessible in the next alpha version.

New version of ADRIFT:

For the first time since May the ADRIFT platform has been updated, and it's a pretty substantial update too. It's now running on .NET 4.0 rather than 2.0, which should mean more broad compatibility across systems. Also (and this is great) it should no longer require you to reset the image display mode each time you start up the game - it'll keep the mode that I tell it to.

Computer update:

It's still in the shop; I'm going to call them tomorrow and find out if I can pick it up soon. Last time I checked (Thursday) they were still working on it, but at least it sounded like it was getting some attention.

I haven't been able to do any Iray rendering for the last couple of weeks because I haven't had the machine.

That was a bit of a brief update, but that's kind of all I can say this week. :) It's still going well, but when I've just been doing similar programming to what I've done before it's not very exciting to talk about. Any comments? Suggestions? Questions? Go ahead and put them in the comments section below!

Thanks for the update. Truth be told, Fumi is not to my tastes physically but she's a fun character and I really like her voice. Anybody else hate the slimes? I just end up undo-ing away from them and fighting any of the others since they don't waste my fucking time.

You might find a reason to still enjoy the Fumi sex scene even with her not being your physical type, but I won't spoil the reason why.

BBBen

Oh, and on the slimes, they're particularly vulnerable to magic. (I think they may be more vulnerable in the next version.) They also don't have much that's really nasty to throw at you. Also, the 'level' of the monster is important to how dangerous it is. In the next version you'll be able to see the monsters' level and it'll make it much clearer what kind of enemy you're facing.

always nice with some variations in body type, not all can be curvy girls with big balloons :P

BBBen

That's my thinking too. I like big boobs, of course, but I really enjoy having a mix of body types in there. Also it should hopefully mean there's a broader appeal to the game. :)

The reason I avoid the slimes is just the time factor. I see battles as a necessary evil, I just want to get back to the character interaction I enjoy much more. I like the current system with enemies, it's more like chrono trigger where strategy matters more than levels. I enjoy a complex battle system when I'm sitting down to an rpg. But for aif? I'd rather just get through it...whole different motivation/mood for playing.

BBBen

Fair enough. I hope the combat never gets TOO distracting. Gameplay in a game like this is a balancing act, after all - I need enough complexity and challenge to make it fun, but not so much that it distracts too much from why you're there. I also tried to integrate combat and relationship mechanics in a couple of ways to keep that interesting (limit breaks are based on the maid's love score, for example, and you can increase love and lust by giving out health potions when they need them).

R S

Okay, the talk about levels just had me nervous there'd be enemies you'd have to excessively grind to beat. I really like the weak spot system, since you can develop individual strategies rather than worry about numbers.

BBBen

No, the monsters actually already have levels (if you go for a hand battle when your hand skill is at 6, for example, you'll be fighting a level 6 monster). I've made it so you can now see those levels so that you'll have a better idea whether a monster is going to be a real hassle for you. You can theoretically focus heavily on just leveling up hand on the early days so that, for example, you could be fighting a level 7 monster on the evening of day 4. That's too tough and likely to be an unwinnable battle at that stage but by day 10 or 11 it's probably not too hard, so now you'll have more information about when you should probably wait a few days for your maids to level up their skills. I built it that way so that you now have some control over when you face the stronger monsters. You can front-load your leveling at the start of the game if you want to get as many early skill points for Kenji as possible, but that's likely to make the combat really hard (unless you're spreading his skill points out). When playing it myself I often go check the moods of the girls I'm courting in order to figure out if my time would be better spent fighting or flirting.
