Have you been getting a bug where PAT stalls on the words "NOW LOADING" and never actually loads?

Are you using a Windows system?

If the answer to both questions is "Yes!" then I WANT YOU!

I'm trying hard to track down the cause of this bug but I can't reproduce it on my home system, so I need people to run a version of the game that has the debugger and then send me the results. It shouldn't take very long.

All I need you to do is download the version of the game that I've linked here, then follow the steps in the text file included in the zip.

Then just send me the results here, or on Discord, or to my email: bbben.aif@gmail.com

I've had a devil of a time getting anyone who gets the bug to give me this feedback, because I guess they don't hang around. Incidentally, if you're NOT getting the bug then testing it will be pointless. 

Also, there's no new content in this version, (it's the same as the public version) and it likely won't work with your old saves, so there's no point downloading it unless you're interested in helping me.

I ran the game on all systems I've got available, no errors. two Windows 10 with all updates, Windows 7 with all updates and a few VMs with Windows 7 with different configurations, among them lowish memory (still enough apparently) and no installed updates. I don't have a XP available anymore, but your .exe is 64bit anyway... I know the pain of trying to pin down a bug without being able to reproduce it, best of luck to you :(

Thanks for trying! Some people just never seem to have any trouble at all and some people can't seem to get away from the bug... it's very strange. I wonder if it's to do with language settings or something like that.

Perhaps it has to do with file access settings or path names? You don't know where they extracted the files to and some antivirus software or (yuck...) System "Optimizers" have funny ideas about what to block...

I did try it out and played a while but didn't get the error except when trying to load a save. Good luck!

Have you tried testing it in a VM? It's something of a long shot, but it *could* work.

Love to help you BBB! I'm running Windows 10 64-bit on a high end machine. OK high end as of 2016...Gigabyte MB, Intel processor, NVIDIA 1080 Titanium, 32gb RAM. Give me a few days. BTW where's the link??

The link's up the top - the big MEGA thing. And I'd appreciate the help, but I just need to check first are you actually getting the bug? Because for the people like me who aren't getting it, running the game with the debugger doesn't seem to result in anything.

I honestly cannot recall. I may have but not sure. I've played a few full playthroughs because I like your game ;) I'll give it a go and see what happens.

If you've managed to play all the way through then honestly I think you probably didn't encounter the bug - for the people who get it the bug is a big problem that usually kind of kills the game for them.

If I did encounter it I may have been able to quit and reload to continue. I just tried the game per instructions and no issue came up on the console. I'll do a full playthrough over the next couple days and let you know. Besides it's a good excuse to play your game lol.

No complaints there. :) But the bug really cripples a playthrough, so I think fortunately you just don't have it. It's got some weird difficulty from system to system.

Just a thought because I'm still learning about this stuff. Perhaps on lower end machines or older Windows versions it's an out of memory error? I've encountered that on other Ren'py games although there is usually a crash screen. I have read that the most recent version suffers from memory leakage. I've read that it can cause stuttering, game lag, and lock ups.

It's not to do with lower end or higher end machines in general, because some people can run it just fine on lower end machines and some people get the bug on powerful machines. It may still be to do with a memory leak of some kind, though. I'm pursuing a theory about the way VNM inefficiently processes audio on select systems being the cause.

Haha I just realized I contradicted myself in my post. I am running a good quality machine and have experienced slow performance, stuttering and crashes with other games written in Ren'Py. That led me to research it on the forums.
