Grammy Doesn't want to study asian music or korean music and definitely doesn’t want to see them winning against a western(read:white) artist. Oscar did a better job by being inclusive to the asian/korean film industry when they actually hired asian panel to evaluate and then with parasite getting its deserved award. Although Oscar still has loads to improve on. But for grammy they don't want inclusion. They want to ignore music that's not in English. They can't be bothered to look up translations even though they are widely available on the internet. If I'm going to be brutally honest I'll say that the grammys are bland, boring. The western/English music is mostly, if not all, boring and bland. That's the reason i never enjoyed it and never consumed it even though it was always mainstream and in my face. I found the depth and artistry in asian music that's just not there in western music industry. I don't think it’s a good idea to make an asian grammys because it’s just segregation disguised as expansion. This is not inclusive. They want to keep the "real" grammy winners mostly white and English speaking and do not want to hear the complaints about BTS getting snubbed by them and this is their way of saying "here you go this is your consolation prize, now stop looking at my toy cuz you're never gonna get it." Grammys created a separate rap/hiphop criteria just so they don't have to give the album of the year or song of the year to some black rap or hiphop artis. And when they saw the latin they created a latin grammy which has successfully kept the latin music and artists from getting spotlight. All other major US awards has started adding a kpop category so that BTS or other kpop acts can't win on the main categories anymore. Now the grammy are doing the same segregation game to kpop and asian music. I'm not looking forward to this at all. I have a strong prediction that MMA, MAMA, GDA, TMA are gonna get less complaints and more appreciation from kpop fans after the launch of this asian grammy because this one will be disappointing. I guess MAMA panel would be relieved at finally becoming the internet's good guys after so much criticism over the last few years lol. And a weaker prediction is that this asian grammy will push kpop and kpop artists to become more western/english friendly. We might see them losing some of that value, culture and faith that you talked about.

Thank you for sharing your opinions on this subject. Like you I do not like it. In my opinion the Grammys have always found ways to protect it's "brand" under the guise as expansion. Their brand is to recognize outstanding achievements in music industry by the industry leading peers worldwide. However, due to biases within the industry the winners do not reflect that. When a non-white artist dominates the music industry the Grammys create a category for that music so artists in that "category" can be nominated and win minor awards but not necessarily nominated for the main awards. While artists of these sub categories have one artist and record of the year it's very rare. Also when Latin music was picking up Momentum in the US with the world wide group Menudo, the Grammys created the Latin Grammy Award show about 4 or 5 years later. History is repeating itself with BTS. I believe music is universal and that's how I was able to discover BTS. To be honest, I was happy and disappointed. That BTS was nominated for the Grammys for a non Korean song. While I believe the Grammys are corrupt the fighter in me, like Yoongi, still wants BTS to win a Grammy preferably with a Korean song just to rub it in their face.

The Grammy people have realized that in Asia there are many superior artists and it won’t take long for them to run out of tricks to keep Asian from winning awards. That’s why they want an Asian Grammy. This is a problem, but can also be an opportunity, because if the quality is Asian music keeps at the present level or better, soon the American Grammys will start to fade away towards inevitable disappearance.

It's not really necessary. The Grammy's no longer matter to the general public. When BTS had more people on their live after the show than the show itself, it's an outdated show. If it included Global music as winners, it might matter. As a "major" USA show that pulled artists from Europe as well, meh. Needs a major upgrade in thinking. Having a non-USA-based 'Grammy' just ... seems odd - unless it excludes the markets the USA show doesn't acknowledge regularly.
