Dust explosions are a real thing, and pretty spooky. If you remember WAYYYY back to the first episode of SpyxFamily, when Loid confronts the Mafia gang in the grocery store before threatening their boss, the reason they don't shoot at him is because he filled the room with flour particles. Same principle here.
