I quietly yawn as I wipe my eyes, casting a slow gaze around my classroom.

'what is... going on?'

More than half of the class... just isn't here...

There are only around nine students here.

The supernatural ones, clearly, but also a few of the 'normal' ones.

With a class that normally has more than twenty people the room feels quite barren.

Rias and Sona are cautiously looking around the room.

It has been ten minutes since class started and...

The teacher hasn't shown up either...

Something is clearly horribly wrong.

Eventually a woman steps into the room, she wears a subtle green dress, has purple eyes hidden behind a pair of fake non-perscription glasses, a sizable bust and long black haired tied up into two twin tails with purple ribbons.

Principal Serafall Sitri- or rather 'Sarah' has made her appearance.

Her eyes stray over the class. "It has come to my attention that a majority of the student body and the teachers have not shown up to class today, thus, you are free to go home."

"Miss Shitori, why didn't anyone show up?" I question.

Her eyes glow briefly. "A series of unfortunate accidents, doctors' appointments, sickness, minor injuries, and other inconveniences."

"That makes sense." I nod, as a few of the other students agree, playing the part of a normal student who just got 'Mental Magick'd' by our principal.

I quickly gather my stuff and shove it into my bag and stand up. "Bye then."

Something is wrong with Kuoh... and I just don't know what.

I suddenly fall to my knees.

'I'm worthless. Everything is pointless. Why do I continue trying to hide. Nothing matters. At the end of the day, I'm just a simple nobody. I'll never acomplish-'

I slap myself and shakily get to my feet.

All around me people have fallen to the ground, cars crash into lampposts, and a sudden chaos passes over the area.

'what the fuck-'

I duck out of the way of a serving car, turning and rushing into my apartment building.

I scale the stairs, open the door, and walk inside, closing it behind me.

I can hear the telltale noise of Yukari's soap operas.

"Yukari!" I call out as I turn around, seeing the woman boredly laying on the couch, seemingly not even noticing the absolute anarchy going on outside.

She lets out a low hum and glances over. "Oh? You're back really early. What's for lunch?"

"We have bigger problems than that... please, can you tell me what the actual hell is going on?!"

"Hn? Oh that?" The woman hums before she yawns, laying back down on the couch. "Some youkai is causing trouble."

"…"

"Don't you think that... as the leader of a youkai faction... you should solve this problem?" I question slowly.

"Hmph." The woman pouts as she rolls over slightly. "I don't want to. This is devil territory. Let them solve it."

I rub my temples. "Yukari... people are dying. You can do what you want, but I'm not going to sit around while whatever this is happens."

"Hn fine. I'll tell you what I know." The woman huffs. "Basically, there's some form of unintelligent youkai out there. A Menreiki. A collection of sixty six masks one for each emotion. Anyone who holds one of its masks finds themselves overwhelmed by the emotion sealed within the mask."

"There are sixty six emotions?" I mutter with a raised eyebrow.

"No, there's far more than that, but let me continue or you get no more information."

"A Menreiki is sort of like a hive mind... it is only able to process an emotion if the mask in question is there. It seems to have lost quite a few of its vital emotions and is now going on a rampage."

"But wouldn't the ability to feel emotion imply sentience?" I mutter.

"Oh, it does act convincingly enough like its sentient if it has all sixty-six masks, but even still there are no ambitions, and no real intellect behind its actions... besides, there are some notable gaps in its emotions.

I cup my chin and frown. "I see."

A Quest has been received.

Hopeless Masquerade. {Lunatic}:
A Menreiki has had her mask of hope stolen thus she has resorted to taking the hope of everyone nearby. Kill her or find her a solution before she destroys Kuoh.

Objectives:
Defeat/Kill Hata no Kokoro: [ ]

Rewards: ?

"They lack hope..." I mutter under my breath.

"Hn? Manreiki cannot have hope." The youkai states.

"…"

"I'll be back." I state as I turn and open the door.

A wave of magic passes over me causing me to freeze briefly.

"Wh-"

"That was a spell by one of the devils... it should render everyone non-supernatural in Kuoh asleep and teleported away." Yukari supplies. "To use such a spell... Hn... perhaps this Menreiki is stronger than I anticipated..."

The building shakes as I stare off into the distance, a plume of smoke steadily rises into the sky several miles away.

*Clang* *Clang* *Clang*

I lean over the balcony and look down to see a blue haired girl in tight-fitting clothing fighting against some pink haired girl.

A second girl in a latex suit lunges around Xenovia her hair tied up into twin tails and slashes a katana at her opponent.

A blue naginata swings out and deflects the slash, the attacker twirling around and slamming the butt of her weapon into the blue haired girl who raises a great sword and blocks the attack with its side.

'well, let's do this, then.'

I quickly skim through my shop as the battle intensifies below.

In the distance I see a large beam shoot off into the sky, exploding the tip of a mountain on the outside of the city.

I pause on a certain special effect I can purchase.

'would... that work?!'

I fall silent as I frown at the price. 'yeesh. That much?! Ugh. Fine. Damn it. I wish I had enough electrum to level up to level six.'

I silently cast a spell on myself as I watch the great sword of Xenovia slash through the hood of a car effortlessly, though it appears to get stuck in the engine block.

A floating blue ethereal disk-like shield appears beside me.

'Disguise self.'

"XENOVIA!" The other exorcist in training calls out as I leap from the balcony.

A two brown ears appear atop my head and two bushy brown tails sprout from my back as I fall the three stories to the ground level.

The pink haired youkai readies her weapon to stab the blue haired exorcist in the back.

I land with a loud crash, my tails and legs slamming into the haft of the naginata, causing it to stab downwards, into the asphalt, instead of into Xenovia's open back.

My had comes up as I punch towards the youkai's face, but she narrowly dodges as she releases her weapon.

As she lands a short distance away, she raises her hands and conjures another, causing the one beneath my feet to wink out of existence.

"A Youkai?!" The brown haired girl gasps.

"This is Japan." I scoff. "Of course, there are Youkai here. In this case, race doesn't matter... she is destroying the city; thus I will be helping you put a stop to it."

"Her?! That's not just a girl being controlled by the masks?!"

"I still wouldn't blame her for this. She seems to have one of her masks stolen from her... which means she lost the emotion it held. Imagine for a moment that you lose your ability to be happy... you cannot comprehend happiness anymore. Nothing you ever do can make you happy. All you are left with is hate, fear, annoyance, sadness and numerous other emotions that are raging out of control now that the one emotion that counterbalances them are gone."

I take a moment to look at the girl in front of me.

She has waist-length lavender hair and blank, emotionless eyes of the same color. She wears a blue plaid blouse, a pumpkin-shaped orange-ish pink skirt lined with holes in the shape of alternating smiling and frowning faces that show off her long pale legs within.

Floating around her are three masks, the first, resting just in front of her face is some form of frowning demon mask with two horns, floating to her left is a gold and white wolf mask, and on the other side is a mask with a large beak-like mouth and a bald head. Some form of kappa perhaps?

The girl's face itself shows no real emotion as she just stands there motionless.

"So, you are saying... if we can exorcise this girl... the attack on Kuoh will stop?" Xenovia frowns as she pries her sword free from the car's hood with a dull creaking noise.

"We could also find a replacement for the mask she lost." I idly note

Pov: elsewhere

"Do you smell that, dear Aika?" A girl with shoulder length brown hair smiles brightly, she wears the Kuoh academy student uniform and red glasses, around her shoulders is a cape with a raised collar, the outside a deep black color while the inside is a brilliant red with numerous light red symbols on it.

A second glasses wearing girl with brown hair lets out a quiet sigh as she sits on the edge of the building. Her brown hair is tied into two braids that go down each side of her head to about her shoulders. "Smell what? Fire? Brimstone? Magic so utterly powerful that we could be erased with a stray attack?"

"No!" The first girl exclaims with a grin. "Profit!"

"…"

"All of those buildings destroyed in battle! An empty city! The devils will be reading the minds of the people who lived in the destroyed sections and proceed to recreate absolutely everything they ever owned in accordance with their memories! Just think! All that free stuff just sitting there! Prime for the taking! The devils will be replacing it anyways! Why shouldn't we take some stuff and get a little pocket cash?"

"You want to go out in that?" The second girl questions as she points forwards, a sudden glacier sprouts up in the center of the city and shatters into large hunks of ice that fall beyond the two girls' line of sight.

"Hn. That's a fair point, yet counter argument. The fight is moving oh sister of mine... or we could just simply get pretty close and-"

A beam shoots out and smashes into a building in the distance.

"oooor we could go there!" The girl hums.

Aika lets out a long annoyed sigh. "Whatever Sumireko."

*CLANG*

The girl with braided hair and glasses looks down to the road below

Some pink haired girl is fighting with some... tailed boy?

Aika adjusts her glasses as she takes note of the one thing that matters, her eyes widening fractionally.

She glances to her sister and lets out a quiet gasp. "Yoooo he's packing Schmeat!"

Sumireko gives her sister a flat deadpan stare.

"Aika. We've been over this. You'll never get a boyfriend if you keep doing that." She states as she looks over the ledge, eyes tracking the fox boy as he backflips over a slash from the spear-like weapon.

"Is it wrong to want a boy to pin me down and violate my insides with his big, thick, magical meat wand?" The lustful girl questions idly as she smirks down at the fight below.

"When you refer to it like that, yes. Very much so." Sumireko frowns. "And how exactly is it magical?!"

"One. He's a kitsune. Those of magical by definition. Two. It has a special property of creating a homunculus of the wielder and a selected partner that's a perfect fifty-fifty split of genetic material.

"Why. The hell. Are you describing pregnancy like a fucking weirdo. You look at me like I'm some sort of deviant for wanting to loot some destroyed buildings but heeeere we fucking go. You're over here drooling over cock and making plans to get pregnant during your first year of fucking high school."

"To be fair, it's a nice cock." Aika smiles. "I wonder if he'll be open to threesomes..."

Sumireko stares blankly at the side of the other brown girl's head.

"What?" She questions. "I gotta include you in the fun as well... after all twincest is wincest."

The other girl rubs her temples in silent contempt.

"I'm not hearing a noooo~" Aika smiles.

Sumireko lets out a quiet sigh and turns walking towards another edge of the rooftop. "Come on. Those buildings won't loot themselves."

"Hmph. I wish Renko was here. SHE knows how to appreciate the male form like I do." The other comments.

"I can appreciate the male form; I just don't want you being weird about it." The first frowns

"When do you think Renko will be back from Kyoto? Tripletcest is even better than Twincest after all" Aika idly asks.

"Shush, you." The other girl growls over her shoulder.

Pov: returned

I frown at the mask youkai as it points its bladed spear like weapon at me.

No words have come from its mouth, and its blank expression under the floating mask hasn't changed.

After Xenovia, Irina, and myself attacked it, it did something... strange... two of its masks transformed into beasts. I assume that ability is what Serafall is fighting on the other side of town.

This has been... fairly difficult for me.

Its power decreased at the loss of two of its masks, but overall, on average it's still faster than me and far stronger than me.

It sort of makes me wonder just how powerful it would be with all of its masks.

She'd be an ultimate class certainly, considering Serafall hasn't cleaned up whatever she did yet. But beyond that? Who knows.

What I do know... is that I need to touch her... just once.

A task which has been fairly difficult since she has a bladed weapon and certainly more reach than I have, and don't you know how much I love bladed weapons!

The last time I saw one of those it chopped my arm off!

I lunge forwards abruptly, a sly grin on my face a scroll is purchased from the shop and appears in my hand as I swing it in front of me.

My system is a little special... I can purchase any item from pathfinder with the key exception that items under one hundred gold are 'free'. The downside being that I only get ninty nine gold's worth of 'free' stuff per hour.

I mostly haven't used that ninty nine gold. Summoning things that can't be explained an all that, but in this case?

To get close enough to this girl?

It is certainly required.

The text across the scroll ignites into blue light as the corners of the scroll begin to smoke, I lunge forwards at incredible speed.

The pink haired girl reacts swiftly, swinging her naginata in front of her and slashing me across the chest- or rather, she slashes the illusion that had dashed in front of me in half.

The illusion fades as the emotionless girl continues to stare, a red pooling aura of anger from her rage mask wrythes around her as she just simply stares at me.

Her arm is extended, she doesn't have enough time to stop her swing which had faced no resistance and start up another attack.

I body check her as we both fall to the floor in a tangle of limbs, her weapon flies from her hand as I land on top of her, one knee on her chest, one on her bicep and prosthetic hand pressed into her neck.

One of my tails coils around her arm like a snake and the other slips up her skirt and wraps around her bare legs, pinning them together.

She shows no reaction to being pinned down so forcefully, nor to the feeling of my tails wrapping around her body which probably feels really ticklish.

I lift a hand, slowly clenching my fist to crack my knuckles.

I open my hand and cross it over my chest.

*TWHACK*

I pimp smack her across the face as hard as I can. "WAKE UP!"

As the back of my hand makes contact with the girl's cheek, I purchase a certain special function from my shop.

Her rage mask cracks as the girl slowly blinks, a large red mark forming on her face in the vague shape of my hand.

I just purchased an effect that duplicates a spell that takes twenty-four hours to cast... of course, it costs quite a considerable portion as I transformed a twenty-four-hour casting time to a mere instantaneous backhand, but it wasn't all too much of a cost sink.

"Are you sentient yet or do I need to backhand you again?" I question idly.

She blearily looks around squirming in my grasp. "I can think, boss. You don't need to hit me again."

Ah right. 'Awaken Object' renders the target subservient until the point you cast the spell on another target.

"Why are you calling me boss?" I lowly question, knowing that Yukari is more than likely watching.

"Well, you woke me up." The girl blinks, her face still slightly expressionless, just now with some added light behind her eyes.

"I didn't wake you up..." I state with a small head shake. "I just had the assumption that you were different. You had hope."

I slowly get off the girl and release her from my fluffy tailed grasp.

I lean down and offer a hand to her, which she slowly takes.

I pull her to her feet.

"I guess you can come with me." I say as I turn suddenly and freeze.

A green haired girl with hollow eyes stands there, a blank smile on her face.

She waves at me as her smile grows slightly. "Hello!"

I glance up and down her body, frowning at the Buddhist mask clutched in her hands.

I glance over my shoulder to my new follower and let out a low hum. "Well, let's go home."

I turn around and freeze A green haired girl with hollow eyes stands there, a blank smile on her face.

She waves at me as her smile grows slightly. "Hello again!"

I glance up and down her body, frowning at the Buddhist mask clutched in her hands.

She wears a black hat with a yellow ribbon around it, a yellow shirt with diamond-like blue buttons and dark green collar. She has a skirt that is also green with a faint flowery pattern, but it is a lighter color.

Wrapped around her is a purple cord that connects to two little strange heart-shaped spots on the front of her shoes, there's a large bulbus orb floating just above her heart with a slit on it, making it look like a large closed eye.

'a...gain?'

I paused as I look over her once more.

'oh. Its her. Her ability is... annoying.

I lift my forearm up in front of myself and quickly scratch out a message into the plastic.

I glance away.

A quest has been completed!

'oh cool! I wonder what stuff I'll get? Ah well, I'll worry about that later. Now I just need to get out of sight before Xenovia pulls her classic abrasive 'I will kill the cause of this despite the fact she is now clearly sentient!'

I grab the mask youkai's hand behind me, quickly returning to my apartment as I tug her after me.

'System, Purchase a level if you would.'

Confirmed.

A wellspring of power bubbles up within me as with a flash a third tail grows upon my back.

You have gained an additional tail. +3 to all stats. +1 to Enchantment and Illusion Spell Save Dc

I scale the stairs swiftly and make it to my door, luckily, it seems like Xenovia and Irina aren't nearby when I step inside, tugging the mask youkai inside behind me.

I close the door and look to Yukari lounging in the couch, her eyes stray from me to the girl with a Hannya mask floating on the side of her head, loose ribbons attached to each side of the mask, but it isn't transfixed to her head, just left loosely floating there.

Yukari's gaze strays back to me. "Why did you bring it here?"

"Her." I state with mildly annoyed frown.

"Sure, it's taking the form of a woman, but that doesn't mean it is one." The woman huffs. "It's just a mask... an angry mask from the looks of it."

She pauses abruptly and looks over the girl. "How are you keeping it this calm?"

"Hello. My name is Hata No Kokoro." The girl bows while lifting the edges of her pumpkin-like dress slightly.

Yukari's eyebrows raise as her gaze snaps from me back to the girl. "What did you do?"

"She had hope as an emotion." I reply simply.

"That doesn’t make any... sense... hope is not an emotion Menreiki get."

"Well, she did. I know what emotion I felt when I was coming home today... it was sheer hopelessness. I've felt it in the past when I first lost my arm and eye."

With a wave I remove my brown-haired disguise, my eye patch appears and my right-hand transforms from skin color to black plastic. My tails change in color to match my white hair as I walk past Yukari.

Kokoro follows after me but is stopped by Yukari who takes the girl's face in between her hands and turns her head slightly to get a better look at her.

Her gaze trails the large crack in the demonic mask beside her head. "It's cracked. Her last mask. she should by all rights be dead. She shouldn’t even be able to hold a physical form with a singular mask. Merely being an emotional miasma."

"I guess she's just special." I shrug as I return to the living room.

Yukari lets the girl go, causing the stone faced youkai to cautiously take a step back.

"I have no idea how you did this." The woman frowns.

I simply shrug.

Her eye seems to catch something.

"Come here." She demands.

"Huh?" I mutter with a slight frown.

"What's that on your arm?"

I glance to my left hand.

"No, your prosthetic one. It's all scratched up."

I owlishly blink then look to the inside of my prosthetic forearm.

"Green Haired Satori Caused This. Stole Hope. Forget her if you look away??"

"What the fuck?" I mutter.

"Language." Yukari chastises as she pulls me over and forces me to take a seat next to her, skimming over the markings on my arm.

"Oh? That's... unusual." The woman frowns.

"Do you know what this means?" I question as I look to the side of the elder youkai's head.

"Vaguely." The woman nods. "I will tell Okina to have a word with Nurarihyon about it."

"I'll do it later." She then leans on me, more or less forcing me to lay down on the couch.

I can feel her breasts smush against my shoulder through her nightgown as she stays on top of me, she ruffles my tails slightly and closes her eyes.

"But right now," She continues "I'm going to sleep for a little while."

I look forwards, glazing up to the pink haired Menreiki as she stares down at me with a koneko-esque deadpan.

Her dress is about eye level, allowing me to see through one of the slits.

'Oh wow... she's not wearing any panties... huh... I should probably get her those.'

I gesture over to a nearby arm chair. "You can sit there, I guess."

"Mn." She nods as she turns on a dime and walks away, following my orders and taking a seat.

My eyes stray to the slightly smug face of Yukari as she uses me as a pillow.

"To grow another tail at such a young age... interesting~ I believe I can see why Yasaka was no intrigued by you."

**Linebreak**

I let out a quiet sigh of relief as I stretch my arms above my head.

I finally managed to free myself from Yukari's grasp... purely because she was hungry.

But I am enjoying this freedom. Nothing can possibly bring down the mood!

"Naguuureeee~" a voice calls out through the apartment.

Serafall skips into view and picks me up. "I had the WORST day today! Something attacked Kuoh, and like, there was this big mask golem thing, and it just wouldn't DIE. I kept freezing it over and over and over and this mean red haired exorcist woman kept cutting it to pieces with her nun friend, but it just kept regenerating!"

"Sounds tough." I state with a small frown.

"This was the biggest incident in Kuoh since Cleria Belial a about a decade ago." The girl pouts as she walks me around the kitchen in a slight circle, seemingly just pleased to hold me.

She's a bit shorter than me, so she is holding me a bit awkwardly though.

With a flick of my wrist, I summon a ghost hand to continue stirring the pot.

She rubs her face against my back, in between my shoulder blades as she abruptly pauses, seeing a lavender haired girl sitting at my table.

"Who's that?" The Sitri mutters quietly.

"Oh, she's the person who caused all of this." I explain idly.

"Hello." The girl waves slowly.

I am placed back on the ground and turned around to face Serafall.

"Explain." She demands, eye straying to the demon mask floating beside the girl's head.

"So basically, she was originally a group of sixty-six masks, each giving her an emotion, if she lost a mask, she lost access to that emotion. Someone stole her mask of hope, forcing her to compensate by stealing hope from everyone around her, but something happened that seemed to set her off and forced her to go nuclear.

"Okay. I'm following so far." Serafall nods.

"So, I see two exorcist girls fighting her from outside my apartment door, right, down on the street. I step in and stop her from killing them, then we begin to three v one her. She summons two masks that transform into monsters, and we all split up. Me with her, and the two exorcists taking on the two masks." I continue.

"Okay?"

"I eventually pin her to the floor and backhand the shit out of her, and then she grew sentient and more or less stopped relying on her masks." I finish with a slow nod.

"You gave her sentience with... a slap?" Serafall questions with a perturbed frown.

"Er. It's more like she chose that moment to become sentient... you see, according to Yukari her species typically doesn't have hope as an emotion and are mostly unintelligent hive minds. She's special."

Serafall casts a simmering glare over to the girl. "Do you have any idea just how much damage you caused to Kuoh?!"

"No." The girl answers with a shake of her head.

"…"

Serafall sighs and picks me up again, letting out a quiet sniffle. "Mn. Gai-tan I need cuddles so I don't snap at this senseless girl."

"But the soup!" I call out as I reach back towards the stove. "The stove is still on!"

A rip appears in front of the doorway to my bedroom as Yukari leans through it. "Now now, Serafall. Perhaps you should let him finish cooking before you take him away to his room."

The two women glare at each other, one who wants physical affection, and the other who wants dinner... and a pillow.

**Linebreak**

I stare up at the ceiling in between two women.

A compromise has been achieved.

Serafall sleeps in the nude, clinging to my body like a lifeline, Yukari... also shares the bed, sleeping on my other side, though she at least has the decency to wear a night gown.

She has taken all three of my tails as some form of blanket and has wrapped herself within them, a content smile on her face.

There is only one way to get over the general discomfort of being used as a pillow and to not constantly squirm as you lose feeling in your arms- or rather, arms.

I point two fingers at my forehead and cast one of my newest spells.

"Slumber."

The black void of sleep takes me.
