I gaze out over a large ship, a frown on my face.

A plume of purple fire seems to race towards it as the ship comes to dock.

"Is that him?" Lahar questions.

"Yes." I nod once.

"It certainly does look like his magic from the reports we have gotten about him... this is all I need of you. I deeply thank you for your assistance."

"Oh, no. It was my pleasure." I wave off. "Just make sure that bastard goes to jail and I'll be happy."

"Believe me. He shall not escape." He then pulls out an orb-like Lacrima and begins speaking into it. "Sighting confirmed. The target used magic eerily similar to the reported transportation magic of Bora the Prominence. I have also secured testimony from numerous women across the city. Each with the tell tale signs of charm magic used upon them. Even if it is not Bora. This man was using charm magic with criminal intent. Gather a unit with fire-resistant armor and water attribute weapons. It is likely a conflict might start a fire so we must be prepared in such an event."

I quietly walk away, taking a spot a short distance away, getting ready to watch the fireworks.

~~Linebreak~~

I watch a large cube of runic text spring up in the distance, the entire ship seems to be captured in a box made of runes.

Damn. That's... pretty fucking cool.

I-

Jutsu Shiki: Word Enchantment
Spell Level: 3
Casting Time: 1 Hour
Range: Touch
Target: Nonliving object, typically a floor or wall. Up to 1 10 foot cube plus 1 additional 10 foot cube per caster level.
Duration: Permanent until discharged. Then 10 Minutes per Caster Level
Saving throw: None
Spell Resistance: None

You can create a runic trap that can be given a set of rules to follow. The rules of the trap are determined as you write them. The rules themselves are entirely up to you and you are given great freedom. You can decide only people wearing a certain color can pass through the runic walls. Or you can make it so the walls will only fade after a certain action occurs, such as one trapped target killing another.

Note: Several castings of this spell may be chained together to create a larger area of effect.

Overcharge: For each additional MP you spend on this spell, you can increase the duration by 1 hour and improve the size of the ward by a further 4 10-foot cubes

Notice: a skilled user of Word Enchantment can alter the rules that have already been lain through castings of this spell. They merely need to spend 10 minutes and must make a successful Caster Level check that surpasses 11+The Original Caster's Caster Level to successfully change rules.

'h-huh?'

I blink owlishly at the magic I just got.

Well, fucking obviously I'm taking it.

I can't use it until fifth level, but regardless, that's really good.

It's like a ward version of explosive runes!

It's sort of only useful if I have prep-time though.

The knowledge of my spell, even if I'm unable to cast it, along with my high knowledge bonuses seems to allow me to see the general 'gist' of that ward around the boat.

Only those wearing Magic Council uniforms are allowed through.

Fuck. That's a good idea. In the future once I join Fairy Tail, I should totally make wards that are just 'Only those with a Fairy Tail Guild Emblem can pass through'. That'd surely help on some missions.

Oh. Wait. The rule is actually 'something with the magic council emblem' in general... which I assume their magic sealing handcuffs have.

A purple flame seems to wash over the walls, a certain mage inside trying desperately to break free.

It appears fire cannot pass through the walls

Bora doesn't seem to care as he continues to shoot spell after spell in an attempt to break out.

I assume the spell could be brute forced out of... but the strength required would be ludicrous. Something a random third rate mage wouldn't have.

Fire Magic: Red Shower
Spell Level: 1
Casting Time: Standard Action
Range: Medium (100 Feet +10 Feet Per Caster Level)
Target: up to five creatures, no two of which can be more than 15 feet. apart
Duration: Instantanious
Saving throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes

You blast your enemies with numerous small orbs of fire. You may fire one orb, plus one additional orb for every two levels beyond 1st (to a maximum of six orbs at 11th level). Each orb requires a ranged touch attack to hit and deals 2d3 points of fire damage. The orbs may be fired at the same or different targets, but all Orbs must be aimed at targets within 15 feet of each other.

Overcharge: For each additional MP you spend on this spell, you create two additional flaming orbs.

Interesting interesting.

I'll take it!

After all, I'm sort of just wasting slots by not having anything. If I find anything better, I could always just replace things!

Fire Magic: Hell Prominence
Spell Level: 3
Casting Time: Standard Action
Range: 200 Feet
Area: 200 Foot Line
Duration: Instantanious
Saving throw: Reflex (Half)
Spell Resistance: Yes

You unleash a large beam of fire at your opponents dealing 1d6 Damage per caster level (To a maximum of 12d6) to anything in its way.

Overcharge: For each additional MP you spend on this spell, you deal an additional 3d6 damage

And with that, I'm out of spell slots.

I'll be forced to replace something if I want to learn something else.

Oh well. I'm satisfied with my little collection already.

I've got a couple of gems in my collection.

Red Shower is pretty powerful, honestly.

As is Hell Prominence.

I could see myself using both.

Red Carpet on the other hand...

Yeah. I'm replacing that with Happy's flying magic as soon as physically possible.

I can hear people around me quietly gossiping and gasping as I sit at the outdoor cafe, quietly sipping on a nice iced drink.

A meteor seems to drop from space...

And promptly crash face-first into the barrier.

Oh. There's Natsu.

He shouts at the wall, pounding his fists on it, then is approached by the rune knight which seems to have prepared for this situation.

The floating cat swoops down from the sky, landing just behind Natsu as the pink haired wizard seems to bicker with the calm rune knight.

I-

Flight Magic: Aera:
Spell Level: 2
Casting Time: Standard Action
Range: Personal
Target: Self
Duration: 1 Min/Level
Saving throw: None
Spell Resistance: None

You conjure a pair of feathery angel-like wings on your back that allow you to fly at a speed of 60 feet (or 40 feet if you wear medium or heavy armor, or if you carry a medium or heavy load). you can ascend at half speed and descend at double speed, and your maneuverability is good.

Using a fly spell requires only as much concentration as walking, so the subject can attack or cast spells normally. The subject of an Aera spell cannot carry aloft more weight than your maximum load, plus any armor you wear. You get a bonus on Fly skill checks equal to 1/2 your caster level.

Should the spell duration expire while you are still aloft, the magic fails slowly. you float downward 60 feet per round for 1d6 rounds. If you reach the ground in that amount of time, you land safely. If not, you fall the rest of the distance, taking 1d6 points of damage per 10 feet of fall. Since dispelling a spell effectively ends it, the subject also descends safely in this way if the fly spell is dispelled, but not if it is negated by an antimagic field.

Overcharge: For each additional MP you spend on this spell, you increase your movement speed by 20 Feet

Annnd goodbye shitty red carpet.

In the time it took for me to read that it appears Lahar has convinced Natsu to hear him out, gave him a Rune Knight Badge to pass through the barrier, then he and happy beat the ever loving snot out of Bora.

Now all that remains is the rune knights dragging numerous thugs from the burning ship- which is put out swiftly through the use of a bunch of water spears that shoot pressurized blasts of water sort of like a fire hose.

And thus...

Fairy tail wins.

I slowly stand, stretching my arms above my head as I turn and begin walking in the direction of the train station. My arms are folded behind my head.

With my actions... I bet this is one of fairy tails most successful jobs... the one with the least amount of property damage, at least.

It worked out for everyone.

Lahar sealed off the area but didn't have any real methods for securing bora in that position.

Natsu got to punch Bora into submission.

Lahar just had a mission with Fairy Tail end with practically zero damage to the town itself.

Win-Win-Win.

A quest has been completed.

A quest has been received:
Prominent Providence:
The Wizard known as Bora the Prominence seeks to use charm magic to sell a bunch of girls into Slavery! This is something you've got to put a stop to... or possibly join in! It's up to you, really.

Objective:
Help/Stop Bora's Scheme: [x]

Bonus Objective:
Defeat Bora yourself: [-]
Defeat Natsu yourself: [-]
Convince everyone to end it peacefully: [-]

Reward: 500 Experience, 2000 Jewel

Eh. Not too bad if I say so myself.

Soon. I'll have more magic. Just two levels and I get access to second level spells.

But first... get a train ride to Magnolia!

A quest has been received:

Join Fairy Tail!

Oh, I plan on it.

~~Linebreak~~

"Merlin?"

"Hm?" I hum, turning to glance towards the blonde walking down the aisle of the train car. "Oh? Lucy."

She quietly sits across from me. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh. I'm going to join Fairy Tail." I admit.

"You too?" The girl questions.

"Too?" I echo.

"Yeah! I'm going to join fairy tail! There's just something so romantic about being a guild wizard, y'know?"

"..."

"Okay?" I blink.

"Wh- was what I said weird?"

"A little bit. Yeah." I nod slowly.

"It's just... all my life I've dreamed about becoming a wizard... and soon my dream will come to fruition!"

"I'm just going because reasonably I'll need money to get a place to stay." I admit quietly.

"Oh... well... yeah, Natsu and the cat really took a chunk out of my savings." The girl pouts. "More money is always a good thing!"

~~Linebreak~~

"So... this is Fairy Tail, huh?" I question idly.

"I'm... I'm really here." Lucy whispers beside me.

I step forwards and gently open the door.

The boisterous aura strikes me nearly instantly, cheers, clanking of forks against plates, there even appears to be a drinking contest.

I make my way across the guild hall, attracting some stares here and there.

I pause at the countertop, where a frankly stunning woman is stood.

"Hello! Welcome to Fairy Tail!" She beams a bright cheerful smile. "What can I help you with today? Are you here to join, or submit a job?"

"Ohmygosh! It's Mirajane!" Lucy exclaims behind me.

"I'm here to join." I admit.

"Wonderful! Where would you like your guild mark?"

"Ah... Here?"

I point to the side of my arm. "In black maybe?"

With a dull glow a stamp is pressed against my arm. Then in the next moment there's a tattoo.

"Interesting." I hum as I gaze to the job board. "So, like... how do jobs work? Do I just go to the board, grab one, then bring it to you?"

"Yes." She nods once. "That's all there is to it!"

A quest has been completed!

Join Fairy Tail:
Well, you're a wizard in the Fairy Tail Universe... that means you should join a guild! And what better one to join than Fairy Tail! I mean, it's in the NAME!

Objective:
Join Fairy Tail: [x]

Reward: 200 Experience

I turn and walk to the job board, offering Lucy a wave. "Later, Lucy. Your fangirling is sort of creepy."

The girl flinches as my casual observation.

Now...

What sort of job should I do?

~~Linebreak~~

Well uh...

That was certainly something

I spent the last twelve hours working at a library sorting books.

A quest has been completed!

It was fine.

It paid quite well.

Enough to rent out a motel, at least.

I can live off about six thousand Jewel a day and, well. This has taken care of me for a little while at least.

Library Assistant: {Rank E}
The Magnolia Public Library has had a new selection of books delivered. Then with the firing of the previous assistant librarian, the Library has gotten quite messy and the books have become disorganized. We seek to take out all the books and completely re-sort them, so any assistance is welcomed.

Reward: 10000 Jewel+500 Jewel per hour worked.

It took far longer than expected, but with it I inch closer and closer to my next level. And I secure more money for living.

I need to find a place to live soon enough. Not just a motel, but like... a place I can rent.

The rates for monthly rent are typically far better than just renting several days in a motel.

First Job:
You have accepted your first ever mission for Fairy Tail! Incredible! I wonder what challenges you might face?!

Objective: Complete your first ever job: [x]

Bonus Objectives:
Have your first ever job be a C rank Mission: [-]
Have your first ever job be a B rank Mission: [-]
Have your first ever job be an A rank Mission: [-]
Have your first ever job be an S rank Mission: [-]

Reward:
2500 Experience.

YOOOO! Level up!

Fuck yeah!

With that level, I gain the ability to scan others to see what sort of magic they have that I might be able to learn!

Plus, I get something called a 'Savant Talent' which lets me take a talent from either Black Mage or White Mage.

I'd like some White Mage options... but a lot of that scales with the Wisdom stat... and mine... is my lowest stat.

I could possibly change that in the future...

But, at the moment it'll just be lackluster.

At least my spells themselves go off my inteligence.

I pause as I spy a certain effect, one that is... surprisingly good.

Healing Spell:
As a free action, the white mage adds an element of extra healing energy to any healing spell she is casting. Affected targets gain Fast Healing equal to the level of the spell for a duration of 1 round + her Wisdom modifier. The white mage may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Wisdom modifier.

I sort of wonder why most pathfinder effects refer to the player as 'Her'.

Huh.

Anyways, this effect will be pretty decent once I get a bit more wisdom.

It's only one point of healing right now, but every little bit helps, I suppose.

As for my spell...

Let's grab 'Regen' from the white mage's spell list.

It's a fairly basic spell, lasts three rounds plus one round per cast level, then gives whoever it is cast on 'fast healing' of two. Meaning they regain two hitpoints every six seconds.

Now, I could have gone for 'Cure' which heals anywhere from six to eleven hitpoints in an instant, but I liked Regen better as technically speaking, 'Cure' has a cap. It heals one d-six plus your casting modifier plus your caster level-to a maximum of five.

But Regen's effect is tied to its duration which has no real limit.

I'll pick up a better instant healing spell later if I really need it.

But. With that single level... I've gained another spell slot! Or rather two of them! One is just filled by Regen.

So... what sort of spell should I try and get now?

Fire Dragon Iron Fist perhaps?

Natsu isn't back from his little excursion, though...

Or, he wasn't when I left this morning.

He seemed to forgo the train and seems to be walking back to Magnolia from Hargeon.

Whatever. I've got a lot to prepare before things start happening.

The first genuine thing I need to worry about is Phantom Lord...

Well, actually, no... It's Eisenwald and Lullaby.

I sort of want to insert myself into that situation... because if I don't. I'll be too weak to do much of anything come Phantom Lord.

If I'm lucky, I might be able to squeeze out a second level up before then.

I'd like to be fifth level at the very least so I can use my word traps.

That'd make Phantom Lord so fucking easy.

'Iron Dragon Slayers cannot cross this barrier'.

Fucking hell, they're cruel enough that I could totally be all 'Only the last one standing can leave' to have Mr. dragon slayer kick the shit out of his allies THEN I hit him with the barrier that's just slightly outside of that one that's just 'Iron Dragon Slayers cannot cross this barrier' or, hell, maybe even a 'Phantom Lord Mages can't cross this barrier'.

But that implies that I'll be fifth level by the time all this happens.

Honestly, I'd be lucky to even get to fourth level.

But oh well. I can try.

~~Linebreak~~

"Erza is coming!"

I blink slowly, pausing as my hand reaches for a little piece of paper on the large request board as a genuine panic seems to spread across the guild hall.

Huh...

Well, I have waited for this.

I've been in fairy tail for about two weeks now, performing job after job.

I was going to try and get someplace to rent after my next job, but eh, this is fine.

I'm not quite level three yet. The jobs I've taken only give me like two hundred experience each... and I need several thousand to get from level two to three

There's a dull thud in the distance. The guild immediately quieting down.

The sound of heavy metallic footsteps echoes out in the silence.

The air seems to grow slightly suffocating...

Honestly, it's a little intimidating...

But, then again, I've done literally nothing to get yelled at for, so I have nothing to be that scared about.

Then... she walks through the door. Her footsteps causing the floorboards to creak due to the absolutely titanic horn that she carries with just one hand.

It has got to weight a ton at least... and she is carrying it with one hand?!

To come even close to that with a system like mine... she'd need a strength score of like... forty.

What the actual shit?

She slams the horn down haphazardly, the floor slightly cracking under its weight.

Ooooh wait.

She has Telekinesis, doesn't she?

She was likely decreasing its weight quite a bit with that.

"I have returned." She declares proudly. "Where is Master Makarov."

"Welcome back, Erza!" Mirajane smiles. "Master Makarov is away at a conference right now."

"Damn." The red haired woman curses, glaring down at the floor for a moment.

"So-uh... what's with that big thing?" A nearby wizard questions.

"Oh. This is the horn of a monster I slayed. The locals were so thankful that they decorated it and gave it to me as a souvenir. Do you have a problem with it?"

"N-No! Of course not!" The same mage replies.

"You sort of broke the floor with it." I observe.

All is quiet for a moment. You can almost hear a pin drop.

Two brown eyes sweep towards me.

She stares at me for a long moment... then looks down.

"Ah. It appears I have. My apologies." She bows her head slightly. "I shall be careful where I sit it from now on."

"Now. Listen up." She demands, casting her gaze around the guild hall. "While I was on the road I heard some things... Rumor has it that Fairy Tail has been causing nothing but trouble as of late! Master Makarov may not care, but I most certainly do."

"Cana. You must start controlling your drinking habits." She glares, eyes locking onto a brown haired girl who is drinking from a literal keg of alcohol. "I have heard no end to the stories of you getting blackout drunk and making a fool of yourself."

"Vijeeter. Please take the dancing outside. Wakaba. Get rid of that filthy habit. Nab... I suspected I would find you dawdling by the request board... just pick a job!"

"Macao." She begins, only to pause and let out a long sigh much like a disappointed parent.

"P-Please just say anything!" Said person exclaims.

"Are Natsu and Gray around?" Erza eventually asks.

"A-Aye!" The pink haired dragon slayer exclaims with his arm slung around the shoulders of a black haired boy in his underwear.

"H-Hey Erza. Just hanging out with Natsu... like any good friend should!" He begins.

"Aye!" Natsu chirps.

"I am pleased to see the two of you getting along so well." Erza sagely nods. "But even the best of friends to lock horns every now and again. You just need to remember to not allow it to get out of hand."

"I-I wouldn't call us the best of friends." Grey nervously laughs.

"I heard that you had some trouble in Hargeon, Natsu." The woman begins, causing said teen to stiffen and begin shaking slightly.

"I heard that you worked with the rune knights to put a dangerous mage in jail and managed to not set the town on fire this time... good job." She compliments with a pleased nod.

He seems a bit caught off guard at the genuine praise, but Erza doesn't allow him to dwell on it.

"Now. I have a favor to ask the two of you."

"A-Aye?" Natsu questions.

"While I was returning home... I heard something that has me worried. Normally I would consult Master Makarov before asking, but he isn't here and this is a matter of upmost urgency. The two of you are the strongest wizards here... I could really use your help."

A wave of unease seems to waft across the guild alongside hushed whispers

"We will meet at the train station tomorrow morning. Don't be late."

With that, she grabs her horn, this begins to walk deeper into the guild hall.

I begin walking to the bar as now that Erza is out of the picture, Natsu and Grey are back at each other's throats.

"Ah. Excuse me. Lucy was it?" Mirajane slowly begins. "Natsu and Grey are likely to fight almost nonstop out of the view of Erza... You've done a few missions with Natsu. Could you go along with them and keep them from fighting?"

"H-Huh?!" The blonde questions. "Me?!"

"Can I join in?" I interject.

"Ah... Merlin... was it?" She questions. "I'm not sure..."

"I have the ability to determine someone's magic with just a glance, so I could be pretty useful... also, I was the one who convinced Natsu to wait long enough to get the rune knights involved."

"Wait... that was you?" Lucy blinks.

"Yep." I proudly smile. "Also, I do know some very basic healing magic, so if anyone gets injured at the very least I can try and stop the bleeding."

"Hm..." The woman hums after a moment. "Well, I know Natsu and Grey can be quite a handful... so maybe I should send two people. Alright!"

I look to Lucy. "See you tomorrow, Lucy."

With a wave I turn and begin walking to the door.

Now... I just need to go rest up and be ready for the chaos tomorrow.

I sure hope I don't die against dark mages. That'd suck.
