“Convoluted vaginas”. I was on a date kayaking with a woman and we looked up duck gangbangs because we saw 3 males forcing themselves on a female duck. That’s when we learned about the corkscrew anatomy. A very informative date.

Jesu Christo - I really regret asking that question about climate change now. I was feeling really down and was clutching at straws looking for hope anywhere as there seems to be none.

You guys, Amber Ruffin! Dave, please check her out for more than five minutes and see what you think? She’s been one of Seth’s writers for a long time. Check out something like her “Colossal Failures in Allyship” segments maybe? That being said, I respect if it just isn’t for you. I love and appreciate you guys, thanks for doing what you do!

Man, all that talk about late night talk shows and no love for Craig Ferguson, the previous late late show host before the disaster that is corden. Craig was absolutely amazing. Never gave a fuck about any of the rules and did whatever.

Piggy-backing on the zebra/duck penis commentary: I live on a little farm with ducks, donkeys, and a horse so I see a lot of equine dick and duck dick from time to time. So like, zebras are equine too and both my horse and my male donkeys just have pink/black spotted dicks regardless of their coat colors/patterns which are all different. Zebras, mules, ponies...I imagine they're all the same. Pink and black, maybe brown spotted. There was one time one of my little male mallards (may he RIP) was doing the thing with his main lady (guess their keys fit? They did it all the time) ANYWAY he backed off and I saw that little corkscrew penis dangling like a silly thumb out of that duck's backside before it just sort of sucked itself back up into his feathers. Lol, silly wiggly corkscrew duck penis was a funny, funny sight.

I’m feeling a tiny bit more hopeful again today. I’ve decided I’m going to keep following the scientists saying that there is some hope rather than the comedians saying that there isn’t. If it turns out the scientists are wrong then we’ll all be dead anyway, but without any hope I’d probably just end it all now

Meaghan Walker

Could you elaborate a bit more? That’s a perspective I don’t really understand, as the status quo is what makes me want to check out, but I’m very curious about living through the end times. The promise of something new on the horizon motivates me to keep going, even if the new scenario is terrible

😂😂 Don't tell anyone but in trying to figure out a way to combine ducks and donkeys, I came up with "The Donkling" and a project is in the works 😏

I think climate change is one of those situations where the possible outcomes are so varied and wide that it's nigh impossible to accurately predict where we'll be in 80-100 years. If you haven't read through the IPCC reports they have a wide variety of predictions using a summation of the best models with varying inputs, and I really would recommend doing so. It's fascinating seeing a highly skilled typically middle to upper-middle class profession in it's entirity basically endorse a form of eco-socialism or at minimum social democracy with a massive shift away from overconsumption towards something like a circular steady-state economy (though folks like John Bellamy Foster have been at that since the 80's or so). At current trends with no changes at all shit would be pretty bad with I believe the estimate being a 2.8ish degree increase (iirc); that's not great and would have pretty severe ramifications for the majority of the world's population with relocation en masse necessary. If all agreements in the pipe now are met then I think the estimate is an approx 2 degree increaese which is again not great at all but managable all else being equal. I think the biggest thing to realize though is no matter what we do now, even stopping carbon output via some space age gadget today, things will get worse climate and weather-wise until beyond the mid-century point due to accumulated GHGs. Yet none of the scenarios presented by the IPCC point to a collapse in it's entirity of modern civilization, except possibly for the most extreme with some combination of exponential run-away effects. However, as citizens of (I assume) the "First World" the thing to realize is that due to the pure luck of birth and family location/history we are all in areas of the world (particularly North America for the most part or really the Northern hemisphere; though I'm generalizing a bit for space sake) that are at this point less likely to experience the worst of it, while the majority of humanity in it's current locales will. Any world system in which luck of birth alone dooms you to poverty and catastrophe is immoral and I'd go as far as to say evil, yet I think as beneficiaries of international capitalist exploitation, I think we owe it to the rest of humanity to do what we can to minimize the real potential for suffering that could occur due to climate change.

Cont.: This is not the best medium as I'm typing this on my phone, so I'll just add a few things here in short. As much as I generally agree with our intrepid hosts on much they regularly discuss politically and in regards to science related stuff, I do feel sometimes they're overly pessimistic in terms of overall humanity. For example Gareth stated something about being kinda fucked since US propaganda is so intense (throughout the entire West imo), but when you look at US citizens' trust of their own government in terms of rating it a democracy only something like 30% do (versus like 85% in China in a poll basically done by the EU). Now when it comes to rankings of Jeff Bezos (as he was mentioned) less than 30% have a favorable view of him which certainly does not seem anywhere near a majority. Except for 2020 really for the most part the majority of working class (and seemingly middle-class people) really no longer vote except for down-ballot races occasionally and others seldomly as well, and when you throw in the insane amount of gerrymandering done by the GOP (and dems as well to be fair but just less egregiously) bourgeois electoral politics don't really represent the population at all anymore; except for the moneyed classes. Last I looked Tucker Carlson had the highest rated cable show with somewhere between 2-3 million viewers average (before he got canned; but hey maybe he can do another trip to Nicaragua totally not being a CIA asset and link up with some of his good ol Contra buddies and do some super "manly" Rambo III shit or something), CNN shockingly has only like 500k and the viewership for all of it is across the board quite old. Thus the vast majority is gettin their info elsewhere, or not at all to a much smaller extent, which really should show the cracks in the ideological armor are the widest they've probably ever been. Take a look at those NYPD robot dogs in service and just how nimble and terminator-like they actually are; there's a reason Boston Dynamics test videos are real sparse on obstacles and crowds. Really ditto "AI" which should just be called (more accurately) Machine Learning or even computerized statistical methods. Nothing wildly new or impressive just all hype (there's a good essay out there using a metaphor of a blurry jpeg of the internet to explain current AI hype, also the podcasts This Machine Kills and Trashfuture are good lefty tech criticism shows where they get into this too). Recruiting for the police and military on average is completely in the shitter even though popo salaries with OT bonuses and free Tren injekkktions pay better than most jobs without a specialized degree/job experience right now. China is moving to churn out more solar panels and other renewable energy tech on a scale we havent seen before while catching their domestic chip fabrication up with TSMC in close to the same time period. I could go on, but my point in stating this is while we can't rely on tech to fix climate change, and there has to be a political shift leftward from somewhere, it's just that on both the international and domestic level the chips seem to be increasingly up for grabs to allow this to happen in some form, possibly for the first time in a century, within the imperial core. Things will probably get worse before better, and certainly weird as shit, but there is a chance to unfuck hellworld. TL;DR: (Armed) Leninist working-class vanguard party adapted for 21st century western inclinations, if you want to prevent the worst of climate change...or something like that, probably a mix of organizational approaches is best.

Thank you. I appreciate the time and effort taken to write all that. You’ve also given me some good things to check out. As well as news from scientists, I get the “newsfeed of hope” from climate clock which is good to help people feel less nihilistic. I agree that there are a lot of problems politically around the world and this is THE major factor hampering climate action. I also understand how depressing it must be for people living in the US where it surely feels hopeless.

Craig Ferguson was an absolute gem. One of those rare shows that could be both silly but completely serious and incredibly deep. I was crushed when he decided to leave late night.

Alanna

I think they did, they just didn’t say his name. Referring to it just as the Daily Show before vs “now.”

Love Amber! I was just glad she did get acknowledged, even if Dave wasn’t into it. I wondered if he’d seen any of the “How did we get here?” segments. However, from all his history research, I can imagine not too much would be new info. Still, the show not being his vibe made *a lot* of sense when I remembered his hate of musicals… and impromptu singing, heh. For that reason, Gareth would probably enjoy her show. I’d say it may spoil some topics for the Dollop, but he barely remembers his own podcast so… he should definitely check out The Amber Ruffin Show (on Peacock or YouTube). Amber’s cheerful style of silly goofing around seems a bit antithetical to Dave in general, but I think that’s actually why Amber would make an entertaining guest for The Past Times. Her improv background too.

Trains! Yes, and walkable cities. My coworkers think I’m crazy because I walk/jog to work. Meanwhile they are driving an hour each way.
