Best “Past Times” ep thus far, so so funny.

San Marcos is south of Austin, about a 45-minute drive down I-35. If you ever hear about people going tubing in Texas, they probably launched from San Marcos (or New Braunfels, which is just to the south of San Marcos). It’s also home to Texas State University, which when I was college-age was Southwest Texas State University and was ranked the #1 party school in the US. Nowadays they’re notable because their anthropology department has one of the few body farms in the US.

Also, context, 1877 is the end of Reconstruction. Grant wasn’t president anymore but by god did the south hate him for winning the civil war and making them let black people vote for ten years.

Is there an audio only version of this one?

It’s hilarious how amazed Gareth & Marc were when Dave said it was a snake egg 🐍😹

Growing up with a Cayuga (Iroquois) grandmother, I can tell you first hand that anything with Indian Corn, especially Indian corn soup, was like a bitter bowl of barf. The French have their own things (escargot anyone?) so they don't need the bitter bowl of multicolored sadness from us.

My Mom's Family is from Seguin, TX, and we would go to San Marcos all the time. Near;y fell out of my chair when Dave shouted the paper's name! Holy Cow this place has never changed :D

That was the "Thanks, Obama" article of the time. Grant is the South's favorite Civil War boogeyman. Growing up in Texas I was always tought in school that the South was not so bad, and the North "ravaged the Sourh being led by Grant". Thankfully I always read on my own and figured out most of Texas Public Education was a racist joke. Glad to be out of that hell hole!

Nicely surprised this was in video form. Just popped in from the podcast to see Dave’s dad in the latest Chollop. 😂

Forgot to mention when I listed to this originally: that I would pay good money for a weekly podcast with these three. Holy shit.

This is the best!! So glad to have the video of these now!!

I keep thinking it’s probably far less intensive to train carrier pigeons to fly from Mexico to border towns in Texas, Arizona, maybe California too, and just keep the drug trade alive without dealing with those border patrol “patriot” yahoos.
