Omg that last story. He wore all of those clothes when he left his home and decided to still wear them to work? Did he not have anywhere to go where he could change (it says he has family!) or did he just show up to the wagon straight from traveling?! Also, he might not have fallen off if he would have had less on…I’m sure that’s not the best for balance. 😂

Grippe is the French word for flu. Both languages are peppered with words from the other. Where English took from “old” French, English adopted to French is largely from 21st century influence. From the 20th century and back, French was the language of the aristocratic class (and not only in the British Empire). A lot of words commonly used in English now are “old timey high class” French words. At least in the minds of those from France, they tend to shit on French Canadians (Québécois) for still using some of those terms. An example familiar to British, Irish, Australian, and New Zealand listeners is aubergine (French for eggplant).

I think it has to do with them not recording in the same room. They’re done over zoom, especially this podcast. Different audio setups and room acoustics.
