That second last question sounds like the person who wrote it has been exposed to a lot of anti-union propaganda in the course of their work (which I'm not implying anything by saying, it's a bad practice by many companies that should be banned). The dues paid are usually a pretty small percentage of wages, and while they do sometimes go to bat for "bad" employees that's because they're supposed to protect everyone, barring really awful stuff, as the level of power between worker and employer is absurdly unbalanced to begin with. "Corruption" has been an issue at times particularly with the mob/Teamsters link, but the mob was also used by capitalists to break strikes, and had/has been used by the government to say secure docks in WWII, try to assassinate the ultimate badass Fidel Castro, or run heroin from SE Asia but we only hear about unions and the mob and not the other stuff. Biggest issue is the complacency from a lot of officials like Dave and Gareth said, sometimes thought of as being due to being higher up in the "labor aristocracy" (or in the Cold war era being completely psychotic anticommunists like Jay Lovestone and helping to do coups in places like Guyana and Brazil; see the book A Covert Life), which can be struggled against, as is being seen within some of the rail unions both before and increasingly after this betrayal by Biden & co. An actual labor/communist party would help massively as the dems can't be trusted to not just acquiesce as a whole to their donors and US foreign policy interests; the purpose of a machine is what it does.

Hey Dave, I recently had a stroke and have lost a good amount of my ability to understand others. It sucks, but that shit happens. My question though, is what would it take to get better transcripts of episodes? The auto-generated captions are pretty good, but it doesn't say who is saying what and it very often drops words. Is it impossible to get this done within your budgetary constraints? This is more of a problem with your live shows in particular. Most of them, I am unable to really listen to now because the audio is obviously less clear than your zoom/studio/etc shows. I'm not one to demand you do a damn thing just for me, it's more just being curious.

Dave, on the Eugene Talmadge episode, you talk at the end at how the people screaming about masks, CRT, border control, school books, guns, and etc (generally republicans/right wing people) are constantly trying to ruin any chance we have of living in a peaceful and equal society. You said "This reactionary shit never fucking stops and it's a constant battle to try and get them to behave.... and then it goes back to their fucking shit... and it's relentlessly unstoppable." Is there ANYTHING we can do to finally stop them???

Pretty sure the answer to that is no. Human nature and the cyclical nature of life tends to mean there’s no absolute “stop”/end point for anything, with the exception of death. There will always be violence, conflict, greed, suffering, etc. However, what can be helped and changed is how much: more or less. Sustainability hasn’t been a focus or common goal for many cultures (especially not the West) for a very long time. Since the beginning of capitalism pretty much. Look at how prior civilizations or cultures began and collapsed. There are a lot of familiar and repeated stages.

Can we get a new mailbag post to ask questions? Feel like the thread was forever ago and I can't even find it.

Question for next mailbag: Who do you think is the bigger martial art fraud/loser: County Dante (episode 134) or Seagall?
