You’re totally correct in that this is NOT the perspective taught in school. I’d have liked to think that my college-level US history course was the most progressive available in public school at the time, but yup, Burr was definitely taught as a cold-blooded killer. Basically also as superficial and one-dimensional in its portrayal of the caning of Sumner (which was comprised of maybe half of a sentence in my textbook).
