Traveler! Word is on the street that only a legendary weapon can defeat the threat the endangers the kingdom. Such powerful weapons are common in myths and fables but few of them are known to survive to this day. However, dwarven heritage knows of a place deep within the mountain where an artifact of yore resides. They call it the Anvil of Fire because it wields the power of fire and rock. With it, dozens of master craftsmen have created the most marvelous blades and hammers. Now it is time for the characters to do it.

This is an interesting scenario that you can incorporate into your game when the characters are in need of a special piece of weaponry to defeat a campaign boss like a dragon, a great demon, or a god's aspect. The characters must travel to the heart of the mountain, prove themselves worthy of using the Anvil of Fire, and then spend a month there to forge a single weapon that shall aid them in their quest. They'll be ready for everything after that!

This is a level 8 adventure with a bit of exploration, combat, and roleplaying! Here's a low-def preview of this illustration:

Here's a close-up of the Anvil of Fire's chamber. The place is so hot that the characters cannot be near it for long before finding the control room where they can lower the temperature to a more manageable level.

Past the anvil, there is a magical hearth where healing effects are doubled and where a teleportation circle awaits. The characters can move about and return to this location later on for rest or for refuge.
