great reaction! while 9 is my favourite doctor, tenrose is still my favourite ship 15 or so years on. i can’t wait for the rest of the series, so many great episodes (my favourite episodes of all time happen in the latter half of the series) and some… not so great episodes.

I used the excuse (not that I needed one) of watching your reaction in order to finally read the novelisation of this story. It's rather enjoyable, and fleshes out many of the incidental characters - for instance, much of the first-half of the story is told from the perspective of Llewelyn the scientist, who comes across as far more sympathetic. There's a gently developing relationship between him and Sally Jacobs, which makes his death a lot more impactful. Also given more substance is UNIT,the military organisation - such a major part of the Classic series, where the Doctor was an unofficial employee for many years - which is here reduced to 'just another bunch of hi-tech soldiers'. A fun little extra detail is that the chapters in the novel (twenty in all) are given the titles of Christmas Carols or songs, whose names are relevant to the appropriate events of the story ('O,Christmas Tree'; 'Walking in the Air', etc)

Ooohh, good to know that tenrose is a thing. I have a feeling I'll be on that ship. lol

WAIT... there are novelizations of the stories/episodes???? I'm assuming not all of them, correct? It did seem like there was a connection between Sally and Llewelyn even in the little bit of screentime their characters had together.

Novelisations were a huge thing for the Classic series; because,in the days before home recording,it was the only way for fans to relive (or become familiar with) the stories. Every Classic story is available in this form So,for example, both Unearthly Child and The Daleks have been novelised - the latter as the wonderfully titled "Dr Who in an exciting adventure with the Daleks". :) In the revived series, only a select few have been given this treatment (because,obviously,no-one really needs to read them when they could just as easily watch the episodes again at the click of a mouse!) Nonetheless, many writers who had read the Classic novelisations when they were young were eager to try their hand. So far - of the stories you've currently watched - Rose, Dalek and The Christmas Invasion have been novelised. The first two by their respective writers, the last one by the romance author Jenny T. Colgan (who was a huge fan of the Classic novelisations, and was thrilled to get the job!) There are quite a few more for the Revived series - but you've not got to those yet;so don't go near them :) Nonetheless, there are already five novelisations of Dr Who stories that you've watched which you can currently read! It's quite a fun experience,as the adapters take the creative liberty of adding interesting details and additional scenes and conversations. I think all five of these novelisations are available for download as ebooks.
