Happy Birthday! Haley did not know for sure when she started tutoring Nathan what he was up to. What she did know was that Nathan was already messing with Lucas and that he came to her for help. She agreed to help him if he left Lucas alone. Sure she thought he was full of shit initially but she also thought he really needed help, which he did. Then she started seeing another side of Nathan when he was with her. At what point did Nathan go from using Haley to liking her? It was unclear to the audience and we even knew for sure of what he was doing? It's not like they have been dating forever. The whole tutoring/dating thing happened pretty quickly. It's only been like 2.5 months since it all started. Nathan needed to be called out on it and held accountable. Whether she knew (considering they said she didn't I'm going with that) or didn't, what Nathan did was crappy and until now, for wtv reason it was glossed over. It was the first time he actually said it and made it clear for her. Plus, she just had that fight with Lucas where he basically said the same thing she's probably thinking now. (Haley deserves to be mad about this at some point even if it's used as as plot device for the next epi for Lucas/Nathan. Just because he was a terrible person back then doesn't excuse his behavior. And just because "Haley should be smart enough to figure it out" doesn't excuse his behavior.) Lucas needs to stop. I hate that when someone rightly questions his behavior, Keith a few episodes ago and Haley here, he turns it back on the other person. I agree with Haley, I don't like the person he is becoming. Peyton is not blameless in this at all but like u at this point I'm more mad at Lucas. Peyton was at least conflicted because of Brooke while Lucas was all like F@#k your best friend. Also, when he told Peyton he was hiding out (when he knew how she felt) with Brooke so he wouldn't get hurt again, but gave no regard to hurting Brooke in the process or Peyton either for that matter, was kind of terrible. Lucas started off on top, so it makes sense they have him lose his way, cuz where else are you going to go but down. Maybe he will get back up there or maybe not. Anyway, great episode. I do feel like this was a turning point epi. Good stuff coming up.

It is moments like Dan getting Lucas out the car and acknowledging that Lucas is his son in the hospital because Lucas needed a surgery where you realize Dan loves Lucas. As much as he has tried to hide it is obvious in scenes like those. Paul Johansson who plays Dan said on the Drama Queens Podcast (the podcast that is hosted by Hilarie Burton who played Peyton , Sophia Bush who played Brooke, and Bethany Joy Lenz who played Haley) that he played Dan as someone who loves both his sons. With Dan it is obvious he loves Nathan and wants the best for him even if how Dan went about it is bad. With Dan regarding Lucas at points it feels obvious he regrets not playing a role in Lucas' life and he also loves him but at the same time he hates seeing him because it is a reminder of not being apart of his life so it makes Lucas and Dan's relationship interesting to watch.
