Remiel, Value Phase (Patreon)

The sketch I did for this piece was more detailed than I usually make. With the concept already in place, little needed to get done in the way of finding the imagery I was going to use. Getting to this point in the piece was more a matter of following the imagery that I had in my mind rather finding something on the page. It's rare that a piece works out like that but I suppose it's fitting considering the theme.

Working out the piece to this point, I started to realize that a core theme of this piece was optimism. This lead me to flip the piece horizontally, making the angel face to the right. I consider this choice with every piece, whether I believe the character is looking forwards into the future (facing right), looking to the past (facing left) or considering the present moment (facing to the viewer). Obviously an angel that represent optimism should be facing right, but now I need to find a way to build upon that theme in other ways.
