Early on in this painting I had to stop and take a second pass at the value phase. It's something I need to do when the colors aren't quite "sticking" to the canvas. This time around, I managed to do such a tight job on the values overall that the detail phase has been mostly finished in a single sitting. Having so much of the piece established early on means that these final step are almost automatic. This is a style of working that I keep committing to repeating. One day, I'll fulfill that commitment.
