Pandora’s Box
A mythological artifact from Greek mythology, it contained the light of the flash. When the box was opened, it released a light that covered the world, granting abilities to humanity and releasing monsters upon the world.

The Flash
The Historic event that took place on March 3rd. A cascade of white light that enveloped the planet and triggered the Age of Heroes.

Ability
A supernatural power awakened within a human being by the Flash or by Sonya’s Broker ability. These abilities are innate and are only limited by a person’s stamina or their physical capacity to withstand extended use. Not all powers are created equal and some are significantly more complex or powerful than others. Abilities come with the instinctive knowledge of how to use them at their most basic level. While abilities cannot cross tiers, they can grow stronger over time with use and practice. All people possess abilities but not all were awakened by the flash.

Light-Touched
A person with an awakened ability.

Pandora Committee
An international organization originally formed in the United States but later adopted worldwide to oversee the fallout of the flash and police heroes and other light-touched.

Hero
A person with an awakened ability who has obtained a license from their respective government approved by the Pandora Committee to legally fight monsters and villains.

Villain
A person who commits the crime of villainy, the use of light-touched abilities to commit various crimes.

Supervillain
A leader amongst villains who has taken a personal stance against heroes.

Monster
A supernatural creature that solely exists to kill humans and propagate over the surface of Earth. Monsters that appear randomly on Earth’s surface are a result of mana gathering in a particular location before reaching a breaking point. Monsters can be generally categorized by their strength within the same tiers as abilities.

Tier
The rating of an ability or monster. The tiers are: Mundane, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Heroic, and Mythic. Mythic abilities do not possess an upper maximum in strength and can turn an ordinary person into a god-like being with enough time and experience.

Mana
The ambient energy introduced to Earth with the flash. It follows its own laws and rules and functions very much like a weather system, moving and collecting at points. These collections of mana can take the form of monsters or, in greater amounts, a dungeon.

Dungeon
An extradimensional portal created by an enormous condensation of mana that leads into a pocket-space filled with monsters and treasure. Over time the number of monsters and treasures inside of the dungeon will gradually increase with the steady intake of mana from the atmosphere. If the amount of creatures and treasures inside reaches the dungeon’s upper maximum, the dungeon will explode, converting the energy of the treasures into kinetic force and releasing the monsters into the world. Dungeons must be either regularly culled of monsters or cleared in order to prevent such a catastrophic event.

The Chalice
A mythological item found in a dungeon by Otis that possesses the ability to grant a form of divinity to those who drink from it. By obtaining the worship of others, imbibers gain increasing levels of power, capacity, and growth for their personal ability. The Chalice was the trigger for the Hero War.

The Hero War
A war that took place in the previous timeline wherein Heroes broke into two factions. Those who wanted to be seen as gods over humanity and those who opposed such lines of thinking. This war resulted in the apocalypse with attention pulled away from dungeons leading to a cascade of dungeon explosions across the planet and the heroes killing one another.

Ability Detector
A crystal ball with a monster core at its center that is used to detect the tier of an awakened ability in a light-touched.

Monster Core
A crystallized packet of raw mana occasionally found within the corpse of a monster. They have a number of uses including in items crafted by engineers and potentially a raw power source.

Guild
A faction of organized heroes usually governed by a Guildmaster.
