Hi all!

Here's Newlife 0.4.18. The changelog is on the blog:

https://splendidostrich.blogspot.co.uk/2018/04/newlife-0418.html

This is one of those "little changes all over the place" updates, with more virginity stuff and the baby-crazy trait.

I'd forgotten how exhausting it was to have to work across the whole code-base - I did the sister-in-law stuff near the end of the month and it was quite a relief to just have a new scene to write even if it was a small one.

For the next release I'm going to do a new sex or makeout scene - a big chunk of mostly self-contained content as a break both from updating code I haven't touched for years and from the marriage content. I don't know exactly what new scene it'll be - I'll be getting results from a vote in about a day and I'll get cracking then.

Anyway, enjoy the new version, and let me know if you find any bugs :)

Hey SO, consistency/imagery concern here. It seems a bit odd that the PC can only give a male NPC the "wait until marriage" response once, specifically if the male NPC is "not okay" with it. Make out/bed scenes with such NPCs imply that a PC who has already rejected PIV sex then gets dragged into it without being able to say anything, which is a little date-rapey and out-of-character for the PC. A possible solution would be to add a basic "Remind him to wait" option in the makeout interaction menu if the PC is a virgin. "Remind him to wait" would check the male NPC's Love/Like value and determine a yes/no response, similar to "Ask him not to come inside," "Request condom," and "Express your uncertainty." NPCs with high Love/Like would respect the PC's wishes (possibly with some grumbling), and those with low Love/Like would reject them. If their request is rejected, PCs with high enough willpower (or low enough arousal) get the "Not today" option which would end the encounter. I think an option like this would finalize the current the "wait until marriage" interactions without requiring too much new writing or original code. In addition to granting PCs some agency, NPCs already have relationship checks when determining whether they'll wear condoms or attempt to pull out when asked, so this would round out the "consent package" nicely. On a personal note, there would also be something satisfying about stringing my PC's fat, ugly boss along while raking in the promotions :). I appreciate being able to give meaningful suggestions and feedback on this project. Please let me know what you think!

Bug (?): Male NPC initiates PIV despite agreeing to "wait till marriage" *** Encountered a male NPC who apparently agreed to "wait till marriage," but then initiated PIV without being told the "Tell him you're ready" option. Is this an intended possibility? I can link the save on discord if necessary.

Hey Splendid Ostrich. First a confirmation that the two errors I posted as responses to the 0.4.17b update are fixed? My name wasn't mentioned in the bugfix section of the changelog, so I'd just remind you if you missed them: "Found another text error: When the BF's jerk friend comes around for repairs, and the PC accedes to his desires, we get this: "He pushes into you, his massively-engorged glans making you suddenly feel very full indeed. . powerful hands pressing hard on your shoulder blades, he starts to thrust. "" & "Also, after getting married, the jerk friend still comes around without any indication that the husband is out. A rephrasing of the initial knock on the door could do it, I think?" Furthermore, I found an error with the new baby-crazy trait. When on dates and talking sexy, you can get a reference to the desire of being pregnant: "You smile at him, your eyes sparkling with desire. The desire to get pregnant. You suggest that he might be the lucky man to make you a mother. He smiles back and you can tell that he's pleased by what you're saying. " However, you can get that even if you're currently pregnant, and even if he's the father and you've told him.

Typo: Boss feel up scene (wet pussy, virgin) *** He grunts into your ear as he gropes at your pussy, the thin fabric of your underwear letting him clearly trace the nub of your clitoris. The touch sends a shock of pleasure through you, and you find yourself gasping into his ear. You're becoming more and more lubricated as your pussy responds to his touch by readying itself to receive it's first cock. After a moment of intense touching, his hand moves back down, squeezing your thigh again. You can feel your underwear clinging to you, wet through with your juices. *** in "readying to receive it's first cock," "it's" should be "its" (no apostrophe). Possessive form doesn't have an apostrophe.

Symbiotic Life

Look I love your work Ostrich, but this update had almost no content from my perspective, I've pledged a lot of money to you over the years and rarely regretted it, but the last few times have felt rather stale. One thing in particular I'm wondering about is if we'll ever see more variation in pre existing sex scenes, as of right now you play through the game a couple times and every subsequent playthrough feels like I'm just spamming buttons to get to a tiny bit of new content, the earlier sex scenes would feel far more engaging each time if each action didnt just spam the same 1-2 resulting paragraphs back at you.

> As requested by several people on Discord, you can now select from a number of shops when you go to buy clothing. Then the people on Discord are idiots. What exactly does this add to gameplay?

Tezel

Hey, I noticed that touching/kissing generally counts as cheating in the game but the lesbian dance scene in the club has both and doesn't count

Secondarian

Something like the virginity overhaul and revisiting sex scenes is a hell of a lot of work. If SO does that, someone on patreon or discord will complain about those updates not having enough content.

Narrative variants have been slowly added to the game though, often snuck in in the same way that new clothes have trickled in without being featured in the patch notes. That said, a full "Description Refresh" might be difficult alongside a regular update, unfortunately. Was there a specific scene/action that you had in mind?

Typos: Gym Jerk talks to Horse *** Ignoring you, Arthur looks over the top of your head at Horse. "I'm going to shoot inside her, let her walk out of the shower with my cum trickling down those smooth olive thighs. " he says. *** Ignoring you, Arthur looks over the top of your head at Horse. "Fuck, I'm rock-hard already. It's gonna be great to empty my balls in this bitch. " he says. *** Ignoring you, Arthur looks over the top of your head at Horse. "I plan to get a harder workout when I'm fucking her than I ever did in the gym. " he says. *** Ignoring you, Arthur looks over the top of your head at Horse. "We'll give her a better workout than she got from the machines, if you know what I mean. " he says. _______________________ [There are other phrases I think, but the all end with "he says."] 1) In all of the Gym Jerk's conversation sentences, there is a double-space between the second period and the closing quotation mark. 2) In all sentences where the Gym jerk has a direct quote (usually ending with "he says,") his quote should end with a comma, not a period. example: [... than I ever did in the gym. " he says.] should be [... than I ever did in the gym," he says.]

Text consistency: "Come" vs. "cum" *** Frankie tells you that if you keep up like this you're going to make him come before he gets a chance to fuck you properly. *** Frankie tells you that he's going to cum soon. *** He tells you that as a woman your body was made to be fertilised, and he's happy that unloading his come in your pussy has left you with a bun in the oven. He adds that of course he won't be helping you with the baby. As the woman, that's your job. *** Typically in erotica, "come," "came," "coming," "to come," etc. is the verb variant (i.e. to ejaculate) while "cum" is the noun (i.e. the love goo itself) or the present tense verb (the equivalent of "come"). However, Newlife references the verb form using both "come" and "cum." For the sake of consistency, you might want to use only one spelling (either "come" or "cum") for the present tense verb throughout Newlife. Either works, though - it's a stylistic choice. example: "I swear I'll cum inside you," he hisses. vs. "I swear I'll come inside you," he hisses. EDIT: There are some places where "come" is used as a noun. These should probably be replaced with "cum."

Hey SO, let me repeat Saur and also thank you lots for this update. The "saving yourself for marriage" option was sorely missed last update and I am very happy that it's now ingame. Regarding bugs: It seems like the first part of the converation with your BF's jerk friend does somehow not trigger. Could you take a look into that? Cheers

It seems odd to me that you can only confess cheating once and then it never comes up again. When the boyfriend likes the character sleeping with other men, you really ought to be able to confess anything that happened since they last talked about it.

Consistency: Husband proposes sex before work (baby crazy) *** All ready! Before you can leave though, the bedroom door opens. Your husband has got himself out of bed just in time to catch you on your way out. He pulls you close, squashing you against his unremarkable body. He murmurs that he wants another shot at making you pregnant before you leave for work. ____________________________________ You protest that this sort of morning shenanigans will make you late for work. *** Baby Crazy PCs should probably a have more enthusiastic dialogue option when accepting (similar to Relaxed PCs) if they aren't pregnant, maybe even be forced to auto-accept. It's bit odd if Baby Crazy PCs leave their husbands "get me pregnant" lunch notes then turn down the opportunity when it arises.

Saur

Typo: male NPC disregards "wait until marriage" request *** You tell Henry that you're a virgin. Not only that, but you intend to stay a virgin until your wedding day. Henrylaughs, he promises that once you're in bed with him you'll forget all about your virginity. *** Needs a space between npcName and "laughs"

Saur

Bug: "Anal would be okay" doesn't fire correctly during standing makeout; PIV protection fails [Originally found by Alex James Elk] *** After requesting to wait until marriage (either by confessing virginity first and then asking or using "Have a serious talk" directly) and beginning a standing makeout scene, the subsequent "Anal would be okay" selections return no player action string and only generic NPC actions, similar to if the PC had selected "Do nothing." In addition, the "initiatePIV" protection flag that prevents PIV after a "wait until marriage" request doesn't work in this instance. The NPC can still begin PIV. As far as I can tell, "Anal would be okay" works fine when proposed in the bedroom, even if "wait until marriage" is requested during the bedroom scene or during a standing makeout prior. It looks like "Anal would be okay" only (but always) fails during the standing makeout. EDIT: "Anal would be okay" fails in the boss makeout scene as well.

A more reliable way to get certain types of clothing, simply put.

Shuuu

Anyone know how to trigger the special weddings? I only seem to get the default one.

Anonymous

You need to have a sleazy boyfriend for the naked wedding and for the public consumation. Take him with you when you go shopping for a wedding dress and he'll make the suggestions

Anonymous

just a couple of suggestions: maybe go more in-depth with the baby crazy trait and add options like wrap legs in certain positions and basically make it a gender swapped impregnator trait with some equivalent actions like wrapping legs to prevent pulling out and maybe an equivalent scene to the birth control sabotage where the boyfriend catches the PC dumping a used condom inside leading to one of a couple of results depending on the guy and the relationship. Maybe some way to opt out of some of the more common random events like for your job make it so you can tell your boss that you are happy with your place in the company and you do not want to be promoted so you can be far up enough in the company to help your boss with the project but not enough that you have to present the project to the sleazy guy and make this an option of relaxed and normal but not for ambitious PCs. Maybe a cheat option or normal option to maybe buy a car or take a different route to work so you don't get the robbed or find someones lost phone. A cheat 3 week pregnancy option would be nice. Not a suggestion i was just wondering how you got the female NPC sex at the house party as i have gotten it once and have not seen it since.

splendidostrich

Yes, until lesbian content has a more thorough implementation I'm not going to dive into the cheating stuff there.
