As the beginning book three draws closer, I wanted to share a (non-sexual) bonus short story. I mentioned this moment in chapter 1 (I think) as a throwaway comment, but it sounded so amusing that I had to write the whole scene out. It takes place early in the summer break after Year 8.

Matterotica is proud to present Danny Davies and Brian Pearson in...

Welcome to the Family

The drive from Brian’s house in Peterborough to Danny’s family home in Norwich was due to be around two hours, although based on the awkward silence that had filled the car since they left, it was likely to feel more like twenty.

Mr Davies had knocked on the door and asked the young man who answered if his little brother, Brian was home. To say he had been shocked when the strapping figure announced that he WAS Brian was an understatement. Danny’s father had almost marched his son straight back to the car and driven home without Brian. Having decided to resist his knee-jerk reaction, Mr Davies happily chatted to Brian’s parents, exchanged numbers, finalised agreements for the handover in two weeks. He would be bringing Brian back and dropping Danny off at the same time for the final two weeks of the summer break. With the arrangements made, they eventually set off.

About ten minutes into the drive, Mr Davies finally spoke. “So Brian, Danny’s told us a lot about you, though he appears to have left out your age!” he said sharply.

“Oh!” Brian exclaimed, glancing back briefly. He had been told to sit in the passenger seat while Danny sat in the back. “Yes sir, I’m sixteen!” he explained nervously.

“Uh-huh,” Mr Davies hummed thoughtfully then glanced at his son in the rear-view mirror. “And remind me again, Danny. How old are you?”

“Nearly fourteen!” Danny replied with a hopeful smile.

“Which makes you how old NOW?” Mr Davies asked bluntly.

Danny shot Brian a nervous look. “Thirteen,” he said sheepishly.

“So… sixteen,” the man allowed his eyes to briefly dart sideways to the teen beside him, “And thirteen,” he gave Danny another brief look in the mirror.

“Yes sir,” Brian quickly interjected, worried that Danny’s cheekiness might kick in and make things worse. “I know it’s a bit of a gap, but Danny’s very mature for his age!”

“And Brian isn’t,” Danny added with a smirk, getting a wide-eyed glare from his boyfriend and a barely-concealed smile from his father.

“And this has been going on for a year then?” the man asked. “Since you were fifteen and… twelve?” He shot each of them another disapproving glance.

“If you wanna keep going back, I was eleven when we met!” Danny said, clearly getting annoyed at the line of questioning. It got another dismayed look from Brian.

“Mmm-huh,” Mr Davies hummed. “And you never thought to mention the age gap?” he asked, raising his eyebrows at the reflection of Danny.

“Didn’t seem relevant!” Danny shrugged casually.

Brian looked like he wanted to open the door and jump out into traffic.

“It certainly seems relevant to me!” Mr Davies replied pointedly.

Danny gave a sarcastic smile and replied, “Good thing you’re not dating him then! That’s actually be a big gap!”

“Danny!” Brian growled. He had been so desperate to make a good impression on Danny’s parents. This wasn’t his first time meeting them, but he wasn’t sure if they even remembered the previous occasion.

“Cheeky little fucker, isn’t he!” Mr Davies said, though it was unclear from his tone and expression whether he was annoyed or amused.

“He can be a handful,” Brian nodded his agreement.

“Two handfuls most nights!” Danny added, getting an immediate death-stare from Brian and snort of laughter from his father.

Brian let out a frustrated moan as he buried his face in his hands. “This is not how this was supposed to go!” he mumbled, shaking his head.

Mr Davies sighed and shook his head. “Okay, then let’s have it go the way you want it to,” he offered the clearly distressed teen. “I’m gonna shut up and not ask any more questions. Danny is going to stay silent because if he says a single word before I tell him he can, I’m cancelling the entire visit,” he got a worried look from the boy and gave his sternest ‘don’t test me’ stare back, “And you’re just going to talk and convince me why letting a sixteen-year-old date my thirteen-year-old son is a good idea!”

Brian lowered his hands as he stared straight ahead. The idea was terrifying. Had he seen a lorry speeding at them headfirst, he likely would have looked less afraid. He closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath then opened them again and nodded. “So I met Danny back in his first term of his first year, the sixth of September, to be precise…”

Danny remained silent for fear of his father following through on his threat but grinned broadly as he realised Brian had memorised the date.

“My mentor’s his best friend, so I saw him around quite a bit,” Brian went on.

“Oh yes, Joseph,” Mr Davies said with a nod. “Danny’s told us a lot about him. He sounds like a good mentor!”

“He is,” Brian smiled, then blushed heavily as he glanced back at Danny then took another deep breath and asked, “Can I be completely honest, sir?”

“I’d hope you always are!” Mr Davies answered, raising an eyebrow.

Brian flinched a little at the slight verbal mis-step. “Of course,” he added quickly. “I just meant… I don’t know how… much I should share!”

Mr Davies shrugged. “Like I said… convince me!”

“It was love at first sight!” Brian immediately replied, his cheeks flushing. The look he got from both Danny and his father was absolute shock. “I just don’t think I knew it yet, or… maybe just didn’t want to admit it!”

“Mmm-huh,” the man hummed gently.

“I didn’t want to love Danny, sir,” Brian said quite bluntly. “In fact, I spent most of his first year actively trying to resist it and ignore it!”

“But?” Mr Davies prompted.

Brian shot the boy a wistful stare for a moment then looked back to the man driving. “But… some things can’t be ignored, sir, and things started to happen,” he explained thoughtfully. “The more time passed, the more I realised I couldn’t deny how I felt and eventually, I just had to tell him! I knew about the age gap, I knew there were other things going on and other people in Danny’s life, but eventually nothing mattered except for the fact…” he paused, staring at the man, who gave a slight nod. “Sir, I love your son!”

Danny reached forward and gently grasped Brian’s arm.

“Well…” Mr Davies said, sounding a little choked up, “I suppose that’s… a good start!” He heard a heavy sigh of relief from his side and asked, “So how many boys have you dated before Danny?”

“Dad!” Danny yelped, ignoring the earlier warning. He immediately raised his hands to cover his mouth, looking at the man apologetically.

“It’s okay,” Brian reassured the boy, looking back for a moment. He looked to the boy’s dad and said, “None, sir. I’d never met anyone before I wanted to be with and like I said, I wasn’t even planning to be with Danny but… it was… inevitable!”

“Wow, is he always like this?” Mr Davies smirked at Danny.

“Only with me!” Danny said back, grinning giddily.

“And I assume you two are sexually active?” Mr Davies asked, glancing at Brian as long as he dared before looking back to the road.

“Oh my God,” Danny muttered, sinking back into his seat, shaking his head.

“Erm… that’s a very personal question about your son that I don’t think it’s my place to answer, sir!” Brian said awkwardly.

“So that’s a yes,” Mr Davies said with a stern nod, then gave a hint of a smile and added, “But a very respectful one! And based on the talk we had,” he gave a glance to Danny, “And the education at Kingswood, I assume you are always safe?”

“Do you WANT me to jump out the window, dad? I’ll do it, I swear!” Danny said, shaking his head in utter embarrassment.

“Sir, we receive regular testing at Kingswood and one of the school’s top rules is no unprotected sex with anyone outside of Kingswood, so nothing nasty even gets past the gates and in the rare instance it does, it’s found right away!” Brian explained.

“Oof, my school should have done with that. Seriously, Chlamydia, the clap, Syphilis, it was everywhere!” Mr Davies said, shaking his head.

“Daaaaad, I beg you, stop talking!” Danny pleaded, getting a smirk from Brian.

“You boys are all about openness. That means having awkward conversations, so deal with it!” Mr Davies said bluntly. “Anyway, while you’re under my roof, you will remain safe, so before we left I put some condoms on your bed. If you engage in… activities of that nature, you will use them. Is that clear?”

“Yes sir!” Brian answered immediately.

“Did we crash?” Danny asked. “Am I dead? Is this hell? It feels like hell! Am I in hell?”

Mr Davies smirked and added, “And maybe try to keep the noise down. He’s a loud enough wanker, we don’t need to hear the both of you going at it!”

“I… I don’t… I…” Danny stuttered awkwardly before letting out a frustrated groan. “Fine, tell mum I’ll miss her and that my death was totally your fault!” he said grumpily as he rolled the window down.

“He IS a noisy wanker!” Brian said, laughing at Mr Davies’ huge grin.

“Ha,” the man cackled. He reached over and patted the teen’s arm. “Okay, you’ll do!”

“Thank you, sir!” Brian nodded. “I promise, I’ll always protect him!” he said softly.

“Good,” Mr Davies nodded. “Welcome to the family, Brian!”

I think parents live for revenge…aka, making their kids as embarrassed as they can. Although I’ll admit, the word SEX was never ever muttered in my very religious conservative upbringing.

I swear Brian meeting the parents was never mentioned in Chapter 1. Until now Nicky was the only boy in the dorm open to his family. I wasn't even aware that Danny's family knew he was gay, let alone in a relationship. I guess they would've noticed the promise rings anyway.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant chapter 1 of book 3. It's not posted yet. You may spot it when I get there.
