As I prepare Book Three to start posting (soon... so soon!!) I wanted to share some bonus Kingswood content. This is first up, with a couple of mini-stories following soon.

End-of-year Report Cards

Well Year 8 (book two) is finally over and what a year it's been! Despite the way it seems, the boys did actually manage to find some time to attend classes in between all the drama, romance and teenage angst.

Just like I did for Year 7, as part of my work to round out the world the boys live in and who they are as people, I've done end-of-year reports for the main eight again. If you're just here for the smut, best give this a skip as its purely world-building and character development. Definitely worth a  read though if you want to get to know the boys better and understand more about their lives at Kingswood.

For reference, the school uses a 'star rating' system for the first three years at the school, intended to show how the boys are doing with each of their classes. Although it's not something that really gets mentioned much, Kingswood is a school for the best and brightest, so even a weaker performance here equates to adequate elsewhere. Below is how the star ratings would translate to a traditional A-F grade scale:

  • 5 stars - Exceeds A+
  • 4.5 stars - A+
  • 4 stars - A
  • 3.5 stars - A-
  • 3 stars - B+
  • 2.5 stars - B
  • 2 stars - B-
  • 1.5 stars - C+
  • 1 star - C
  • 0.5 stars - D
  • 0 stars - Failing Grade

Hope you enjoy getting some insight and thank you for reading The Kingswood Saga so far. Plenty more still to come!

I expected better results from Josh…was surprised there was no mention of his “Bullying”.

Stories by Matt

Josh still did great. He went from an average of 3.2 in Year 7 to 3.7 in Year 8. That's a pretty good improvement. As for the bullying, if Angel hasn't reported it and nobody else has, the teachers probably aren't even aware it was happening. The teachers see a lot, but it seems they don't know everything!

I loved David's comment about wasting most of his year on friends who weren't really his friend....can't imagine what he is talking about. I was also surprised that Rob edged David out in grades. I knew Rob was smart but I had thought James and David were the brains of the dorm.

Stories by Matt

I suppose one part I never mentioned is when the boys write their statements. It's right at the very end of the year, so in this case it was not long after everything had blown up in the dorm. That meant David was still really angry at everyone. You'll see more on that as book three starts. The difference between Rob and David in the grades really comes down to versatility. David will always have the lead in purely academic subjects, but it's the creative subjects that end up dragging down his average. He tries hard, but he's just not very good at them. On the other hand, Rob struggles a little on the creative subjects, but how previous lower grades were more about a lack of effort than a lack of ability. Applying himself more in Year 8, he was able to rise to the top. Rob has the ability to be great at everything he applies himself to. David isn't as well rounded, but the areas he excels in, he can reach truly spectacular levels. At the same time, David also holds himself back a little. Seeing how James's extreme intelligence isolates him so much, David is scared to emulate that as Kingswood is the first place he's had proper friends and he values them much more than academic excellence (which makes his comments even more sad).
