Kai’s second week back at school had been distinctly less challenging than his first… because he had been given less challenges from Miles and Leo! At his request, they had eased off on their torment of him, if only to allow him some more time to try and get other things sorted.

‘More time’ was what Caleb had requested too, and Kai was doing his best to give it to him. Monday had shown definite signs of improvement, as Caleb was almost verging on cheerful on their way to school. Though he did keep his distance from Kai throughout the day, as he was no longer grounded, he was also able to spend the evening with Kai, Leo and Miles.

The subject of what had happened between him and Kai was never brought up, though it was painfully obvious the urge to do so was killing both Leo and Miles. Dares hadn’t been mentioned either, aside from Leo attempting to tell Caleb about Kai’s naked venture over to Miles’s house, though Miles had ended up taking over the telling when Leo ended up laughing too much to continue.

Things with Luca were also… strange. Kai really didn’t know what things with Luca were. As Friday rolled around, Kai found himself in need of some peace and once again headed for the library. This time as he walked in past the snoring Ms Gennifer, who today sounded like pebbles in a blender, he was less surprised to see Luca once again.

“Hey,” Kai said timidly.

Luca’s face lit up, which seemed unusual. Normally he seemed almost unresponsive to Kai’s presence, but now he looked absolutely delighted. “Hi!” he said happily, “I was starting to think you were never gonna come back!”

“Oh, I… I didn’t… umm…” Kai mumbled, a little nonplussed. He cocked his head as he approached the table and asked, “Was I… supposed to come back? Did we arrange that?”

“No, I just… umm… I figured you just would,” Luca said, shrinking away a little.

“Oh!” Kai repeated, then sat down, frowning. He stared across the table at Luca and said, “I’m sorry, I… don’t really get… what’s happening. I kinda figured you didn’t really wanna talk to me!”

“Well no, not out there!” Luca exclaimed, as if it was obvious, gesturing in the general direction of the Gennifer-guarded exit.

Kai frowned. It was not obvious. “Why not out there?” he asked frankly, slightly offended. Was Luca ashamed to be seen with him?

“Well… cos it’s me!” Luca stated with a bemused headshake. “You start talking to me out there and before you know if you’re getting ‘fag’ written on your locker or having people throwing stuff at you or standing with their backs to the wall whenever you’re around. You’re actually popular. I don’t wanna drag you down!”

Kai stared blankly for a few moments, then chuckled slightly as if Luca was joking, but it dropped away as he saw the serious expression. “Wait you… do they… do you… you don’t…” he stuttered, then stopped himself and took a deep breath. “Okay, okay, one thing at a time. Do people really do those things to you?”

“Not, like… ALL the time,” Luca shrugged it off, “But… well… most of the time, yeah!”

Kai looked utterly heartbroken as he stared at the other boy. “Fuck,” he said softly. “And you think… if we talk outside of here… that… that… what? That I’ll CATCH it?”

“Not quite how I’d word it… and you may need to study your gay history if you think that’s ever a good way to word it,” Luca said, serious but smirking, “But… yeah, kind of. I’ve heard people get called faggot just for sitting near me at lunch. Why d’ya think I always come in here now?”

“You come in here every day!?” Kai exclaimed, “And they really… oh my fucking god!? Seriously. I think I might actually cry, which is really fucking stupid because it’s not even about me! Fuck!” He really was on the verge of crying, his eyes getting watery.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Luca said as he jumped up and moved round, leaning down to pull Kai into a hug.

“Hey, you’re wearing trousers today!” Kai observed as he held onto the other boy.

Luca snorted with laughter as he stood back, seeing the tearfulness had quickly died away. “Umm, yeah, I usually do. It was just my luck that you showed up here the one day I wasn’t!”

“Hey, I felt pretty lucky!” Kai said with a grin as Luca returned to his seat. As he got a shy giggle in return, he frowned a little and said, “You coulda texted though!”

Luca shrugged and said, “I know, I just… I guess I didn’t want your brother to see messages from me and give you any hassle!”

“Leo!?” Kai recoiled, “Why would he…” He stopped mid-question, looking appalled. “Wait, has Leo…”

“Stop!” Luca quickly interjected. “Whatever you were gonna ask, I’m not gonna answer. I don’t wanna cause issues between brothers. I shouldn’t have even said what I did. Can we just… forget all of this for now please! I actually have some time with a person I like and I’d rather not spend it talking about stuff that makes me wanna cry!”

Kai desperately wanted to talk more about it, especially Leo, but he respected the other boy’s wishes and nodded as he said, “Okay, I can do that.” He thought for a moment then smiled coyly and asked, “So… you’ve got your trousers on today, but have you… taken them off anywhere else?”

Luca pursed his lips and avoided eye contact awkwardly.

“Oh my god. You have! Dish it!” Kai demanded eagerly.

“Scary,” Luca nodded, “But… fun.”

Luca turned bright red as he said, “The second one. Although I didn’t DO that out there, but… the other night, I was… in bed and… umm…”

WHY?” The yelp echoed around the library and the sound of snoring halted for a moment before resuming. Cringing at his volume, Luca repeated more quietly, “Why?”

“Got dared to!” Kai shrugged, “All this stuff I’ve been doing is mostly dares!”

“And you just… do it? Luca asked, not quite comprehending.

Kai nodded and smiled. “I started doing it mostly to try and do stuff with other guys, but… well, it turns out this stuff really turns me on so… I just keep doing it!”

“So if I dared you to do something now, you’d do it?” Luca asked, squirming a little in his seat.

Kai smirked. It felt like he was back in the football team showers. “It depends what you dare me,” he explained, “I wouldn’t do ANYTHING, but most things… probably!”

Kai stared back, a little shocked. “You want me to kiss you?” he asked.

“Do all of your dares come with so many questions?” Luca asked with a wry grin.

Kai sniggered a little before he replied, “No, but then most dares don’t involve my first kiss!”

“You’ve never kissed anyone?” Luca asked, looking rather surprised.

“No. Have you?” Kai asked a little accusingly.

“Well, no, but… you seem the type who would have!” Luca exclaimed.

Kai recoiled a little at the comment and asked, “What does that mean?”

Luca looked mortified. He shook his head for a few moments before he said, “I just mean… umm… I wasn’t… implying anything, I just… I thought you’d have lots of people wanting to kiss you!”

“Pfft, no chance!” Kai replied. “So… wait does that mean you DO want to kiss me?”

“It means I DARE you to kiss me!” Luca said evasively.

Kai let out a low growl as he asked, “Has anyone ever called you annoying?”

“Sorry,” Luca said timidly.

“Sorry,” Kai said too. “I’m not trying to be weird, or funny or anything, it’s just… I’ve thought about my first kiss a lot recently and there’s lots of firsts I’m happy to do on a dare, but… I kinda wanted that to be something I do because… well, not because it was dared!” he explained.

“Oh,” Luca said, his head bobbing gently. “Well… then… yes!” he said barely above a whisper, “Yes, I do want to!”

“Okay, good, so do I!” Kai said happily. It suddenly hit him what he was saying, what Luca was saying, what they were agreeing to. “Fuck!” he exclaimed, panting slightly. He stood up and moved around the end of the table, licking his lips as discretely as he could to moisten them, then held out a hand to Luca.

Luca took the hand and stood facing Kai… or rather, looking down at Kai as he stood a lot taller than him.

Kai let out a frustrated groan as he looked up and said, “I really hate being short sometimes!”

“It’s cute,” Luca said with a serene smile.

They stared at each other for a moment before Luca leaned down and Kai went up on tip-toes, allowing their lips to meet and their eyes to close. They held motionless for a few seconds before they pulled away just a little and opened their eyes. They eventually parted, both taking a step back as they panted a little.

The journey home on Friday evenings was always a more cheerful one, with school out of the way for a couple of days, but today it seemed especially lively. No longer grounded, and with the first tentative steps towards making up with Kai, Caleb’s mood had officially been upgraded from ‘dark and brooding’ to ‘quiet and sullen’, which was definitely progress. The boys had stopped at ‘the corner shop’ on the way home, a convenience store that was, confusingly, not actually on a corner. Nobody ever questioned calling it that though. It was a frequent stop so Kai never questioned it when they headed in and he was too distracted to really notice the muttering that was going on amongst the others until it was too late.

“Take your clothes off,” Caleb hissed in Kai’s ear as he stood browsing the chocolate section as part of his classic routine of pretending he would buy anything other than his usual.

Kai chuckled, shook his head and muttered, “Piss off!”

“He’s not kidding!” Leo growled in Kai’s other ear.

“I’m also here, but you’re out of ears!” Miles said from behind Kai. “Ooh, I know a great Star Trek joke about the final front-ear… and now I’ve ruined the punchline. Fuck it!”

Leo slowly turned to look at Miles and shook his head. “Totally ruining the suspense!” he said disapprovingly.

“Whatever,” Miles shrugged. “Kai, get naked. We’re making you buy stuff naked cos it’s funny. I’ll see you outside!” he said before casually strolling towards the door. “Not shoplifting, Mr Angus. Those lot are buying me stuff!” he called out as he exited.

“He is REALLY annoying sometimes,” Leo said, shaking his head.

“Meh, he gets the job done,” Caleb replied.

“Yeah, I’m kinda still stuck on the whole… buying stuff naked thing!” Kai said, shaking his head. “No way I’m doing that, so you can…” He stopped mid-sentence.

“We can… what?” Leo asked, exchanging confused glances with Caleb.

Kai groaned but smiled as he did it. He didn’t have any classes with Luca on Friday afternoons, so he had not yet been able to try interacting with him at school outside of the library, but instead he had decided they were going to text over the weekend. It suddenly occurred to him how exciting Luca would likely find it to hear about another naked escapade. Or better yet…

Caleb rolled his eyes, but shrugged as he reached into his pocket to pull out some money.

Kai pulled his shirt and blazer off over his head and handed it to Caleb, exchanging a brief but sincere smile as he exchanged it for the cash. He quickly undid his trousers and pulled his feet out of his shoes to make getting out of his clothes easier. Pushing the trousers and his underwear down, he stepped out of them and put his feet back into his shoes before handing the rest of his clothes to Caleb.

“Okay, what am I paying for?” Kai asked as he looked round anxiously, expecting other people to randomly start popping up out of nowhere to catch him.

“Here,” Leo said, already filming. He held out a can of coke and touched it to Kai’s nipple, sniggering as he got a shriek from the cold.

“Git!” Kai huffed, then accepted the can, along with the few other bits he was being given to buy. Taking a deep breath, he peered out to the side and looked ahead to the counter.

“Come on. Get to it!” Leo sniggered, giving Kai a gentle shove.

Kai let out a slight squeak as he found himself in full view of Mr Angus, the shop’s owner. With his arms piled up with items, Kai couldn’t even reach down to cover up his dick which he felt thicken slightly. “Oh, can I interest you in a chocolate orange? They’re on special this week, three for £4!” Mr Angus offered, gesturing to the small pile at the end of the counter.

Miles quickly excused himself to catch up with Leo.

“They’ll like that!” Caleb chuckled. “Hey, umm… maybe… maybe when I get back from practice we could talk!” he suggested.

Kai beamed happily as he nodded at the suggestion and said, “Yeah, I’d like that!”

“Great, I’ll see ya then,” Caleb said, giving a timid smile before heading towards his house.

Kai watched him walk away for a few moments, then turned to follow the others who hadn’t really made it that far yet. As he walked, he looked at the pictures of his shop nudity that Leo had sent him (mostly as a tease) and picked one he liked, then sent it to Luca with the caption, [So this just happened!] As he slipped his phone into his pocket, he suddenly remembered what Luca had said earlier about Leo. Rushing up behind Leo and Miles just as they got near their houses, he said curtly to Miles, “Go away, I need to talk to cuntface!”

“Charming,” Miles huffed. “Lemme know if this gets bad so I can NOT come over later!” he said with an eye roll as he hurried across the street to head to his own house.

“What?” Leo asked, looking at his furious twin.

“What did you do to Luca?” Kai demanded.

Leo looked round in slight confusion, as if expecting to see the other boy nearby. “Nothing! What!?” He looked around again, still confused and repeated, “What!?”

“You…” Kai started, but realised it was hard to express himself without giving away information about himself and Luca. “Not today. Just… like… ever. Have you ever been mean to Luca?” he demanded.

Leo’s mouth opened as if to reply, but nothing came out and it eventually closed as he shrunk inwards slightly, looking a little guilty.

“You have!” Kai said accusingly, pointing a finger at his brother menacingly. “What did you do, Leo?” he barked angrily.

“Jesus, chill. Fuck!” Leo said, raising his hands defensively. Taking a deep breath, he stepped away and leaned on the low wall running the length of their front garden. “I…” he started awkwardly, then shook his head and said, “This was ages ago, like… last year. I haven’t even spoken to him since we went back!”

“What. Did you. Do?” Kai seethed, glaring.

“It wasn’t like it was just me. Some of the others, mostly Fin and Vin, they were just saying stuff to him and calling him things and… and I got caught up in it and started joining in. I didn’t MEAN it!” Leo said defensively.

“What did you say?” Kai asked, feeling his stomach churning.

Leo looked visibly guilty, and surprisingly intimidated considering how much he outsized his twin. “Nothing the others weren’t saying!” he said evasively.

“What?” Kai barked.

“I… I might have called him a… a bender and… and a battyboy and… maybe a faggot…” Leo said. The shame on his face was undeniable, but it didn’t change his admission.

“You didn’t!” Kai said, looking more heartbroken than angry.

“It was just that one time!” Leo said timidly.

“Fuck. Leo!” Kai said, sounding genuinely disgusted.

“It was just… y’know… banter and stuff. I didn’t MEAN it. I don’t… think that stuff about… about THOSE people!” Leo said guiltily.

“Those people?” Kai repeated, taking a step back. He didn’t always see eye-to-eye with his brother, and he knew he could be annoying and antagonistic when he wanted to be, but he never thought of him as an actual bully before. “Wow!” he said, shaking his head as he started down the driveway.

“Kai, I’m sorry!” Leo said, distraught by the look on his brother’s face.

Kai didn’t reply.

“I’ve never done it since and I never will again! To anyone! I promise!” Leo called out desperately.

Kai didn’t even look round. He just continued walking into the house.
