Okay, for now everything was going perfectly for Marie's perfect date. There might now be a few more mermaids in town, but as long as nothing happened to her precious date, she was content with it. Though Marie was almost 100% sure that something was about to go wrong again, as always…

In any case, Hiros and Marie were now wandering through the city, still holding each other hand in hand. It had been a while since Marie had the opportunity to stroll through the city and take in all the views for herself and now she was doing it while showing them to her very special friend.

“It’s funny. There are many types of buildings that are in my world as well, but also a lot that I only really knew from fantasies.” Hiros let out as his gaze wandered around from building to building.

“Really? What do you mean?” Marie asked, her tails stopping to waggle for a moment as she turned to look at Hiros next to her.

“Take this building for example. This is a library right?” Hiros asked, pointing towards a large building that the two of them were just about to pass by.

“Ah! This one? Uhm… Yes? That is just a library… Ahahaha…” Marie stuttered, knowing exactly what that building actually was. What Marie had realized was that when you had a close relationship with queen Marina, the queen tended to brag about the time when she still had the upper hand on the dark goddess and had used her power to improve the kingdom in many ways. And this library had been one of these improvements, but that was nothing she needed to bring up to Hiros at that moment.

“Libraries, even though they tend to fall out of favor in the current day and age, do exist where I come from and have for a very long time.” Hiros explained, giving a smile to the foxgirl next to him, who was listening to him eagerly.

“But buildings like this, these guild headquarters, I have only read about in fantasy stories. Those are usually the buildings where adventurers go to, take on quests to take down dragons and make a living.” Hiros described gesturing with his hands grandly. Though after seeing how Marie was just staring at him, he backpaddled a little bit. “Or something along these lines.”

“...I was trying to remember how your world operated.” Marie replied after a little while, her expression grew a bit more serious for a moment, with her brow furruring and her tails almost not swaying. “Our guild is the collection center of information and missions regarding Poldur and is the epicenter of safe trades through the continent. I guess because you don’t have Poldur you are not really in need of such a facility.”

“Poldur? May I ask what those are, because I have never heard of them before?” Hiros responded, which caught Marie a little bit off guard, but she quickly returned a somewhat pained smile.

“Poldur are creatures that feed off of magic and tend to leave destruction wherever they go.” She explained. “Firing magic directly at them is stupid, you would only make them stronger. Even if Nagisa herself tried to turn them into something else or make them disappear, they would feed off that power, rendering her spell useless and making the Poldur stronger.”

“...but I thought there were some magical soldiers that fight evil beasts around here? If they feed off magic, then how…” Hiros wanted to ask, but Marie interrupted him with a kind of cold look on her face.

“Saying all magic is the same is like saying that all sources of energy are the same. Or every human is the same. Thing is, it always depends on how you use that power. If you for example make the classic move and cast a fireball, your magic would create a fireball and that's what would hit the Poldur.”

“Oh, so a fireball doesn't actually deal ‘magic’ damage. I mean, it makes sense if I think about it, I was just used to video games.” Hiros declared, rubbing the back of his head. “But if that doesn’t count as magic, then what does?”

“For example mind control, taming or reality warping magic. Nothing of this sort works against these beasts, which is the reason why they still exists” Marie laughed weakly, then shook her head. “After all, do you really think Nagisa, the all powerful goddess, would let creatures this threatening live despite being the guardian goddess of this world for so long?”

“...you seem to have a heavy heart when talking about these things. Are you okay?” Hiros suddenly asked, much to Marie's surprise.

“W-W-What?!? I mean… Yes, maybe?” Marie fumbled and almost tripped. Man, why does he say stuff like that out of the blue sometimes? It really just caused her to lose her entire focus in less than a second.

“Then let's talk about something else for a change. Where do you plan to have us go next?” He said, making Marie shake her head briefly. Then she slapped her cheeks to make her snap out of that embarrassed stupor.

She couldn't afford to be embarrassed now. She was supposed to lead him around the city and they were already almost at their next planned destination. It was time once again for Marie to show off again… and this time with hopefully 100% less things that don't go as planned.

“Oh yeah. I guess I haven’t told you. It’s one of my favorite places in the whole city.” Marie beamed, all four of her tails once again wagging excitedly. It also seemed like Hiros had to giggle at that, but Marie honestly didn’t care.

“Is that place that big park by any chance?” Hiros guessed and who could blame him? After all, Marie was clearly steering the two of them towards it. So Marie just returned a big smile and the two of them entered the big greenery in the middle of the city.

It was a beautiful day all things considered. Few clouds, sunshine, no rain, and not too cold or hot… just a perfect day to go out, and quite the opposite of what Marie expected considering her luck and clumsiness. But perfect weather only served to amplify her desire to make this date the best she could possibly have which in turn also visibly stressed her out more and more.

After all, if something goes wrong now, it is very clearly her fault and not someone or something else’s, since everything else seemed to line up perfectly.

"L-Look! Isn't the weather perfect for a stroll through the greenery today?" Marie asked to break her own nervousness, with limited success.

"It really is. Hey, would you mind if I asked you another question?" Hiros suddenly said as the two of them found a good place to settle down and unpack the picnic blanket Marie was carrying with her.

"Huh? What's up?" She replied as she turned to face him once again.

"In my world, parks are often created to bring more greenery into the big cities. But here, the kingdom might be big but not even remotely the size of a normal city of ours." Hiros said with his hand on his chin.

"... So why would we need parks?" Marie completed his question, to why he nodded slightly.

"I can think of three reasons off the top of my head." Marie continued, as her tails started wagging again. "First for kids to have a playground, second for monster girls who like natural spaces but don't want to leave the city, and third, for couples who want a quiet but open place~"

Marie had to giggle at that, to which Hiros nodded as a smile formed on his face. "That's as good a reason as any."

"Oh, that reminds me…" Marie fumbled as she dug into her bag, wanting to get something special out of the bag that seemingly grew more spacious the harder she tried. But she wouldn't be stopped!

"Tada~" She announced as she pulled out a small box and happily showed it to Hiros. Naturally he looked a bit confused, which was expected and why Marie proudly followed up with an explanation.

"I have been working together with a few Alraune researchers to create these little seedlings. We call them: Insta-flowers." Marie declared and opened the lid of the box to show Hiros the inside.

To the untrained eye those things might look like regular, albeit large seeds, but Marie knew their true nature. So she buckled down and planted them near their picnic blanket, then smiled at Hiros.

"These seeds might look normal, but I assure you, they are not. Just plant like 5 of these supercharged seeds…" she started, grabbing her water bottle and pouring a bit of the liquid onto the seeds. "give them a bit of water and… Bam!!!"

Marie looked like she was exaggerating with her words and gestures at first, but both could already see movement happening under the soil. Then flower heads started to peek up from under the earth, one after another, more and more, until their entire surroundings were filled by the most colorful of flower fields.

"See?" Marie beamed at him, extremely proud that her work paid off and her demonstration was successful. The most shocking thing to her was actually how much she wanted headpats from Hiros as a reward.

"Wooooow! This really is super beautiful. I can see a lot of people wanting to buy an instant carpet of flowers." He said, looking extremely impressed. "Just one question. Just how much ground do your flowers usually cover?"

"Huh? Only around 5 square meters or so. Why…?" and as she turned to look at her surroundings once again, Marie's face immediately got a whole lot paler.

The flowers didn’t stop sprouting. In fact Marie could even tell that the roots of the seeds were shaking up the earth from underground with how big they were growing, which also made it easy to follow how far they had traveled. And it was that exact size and growing speed that made Marie pale.

As the roots continued to spread rapidly underneath the soil, more and more flowers sprouted from beneath the ground, but that wasn’t all. For some reason, the roots spread in a very particular way that made it almost look like it was searching for something. And as soon as the roots crossed beneath the feet of a random guy that was also visiting the park, it became abundantly clear that it had found what it had seeked.

The roots shot out of the ground and straight into the guy's legs from multiple angles, pricing into them and seemingly intruding deeper and deeper into his body. He didn’t even have time to scream as his legs started to turn, affected by the seemingly endlessly long roots slithering into his body.

His legs began to change color, shifting into the same brown color as the roots that intruded them and then they started to split apart into countless long and root-like vines. After a while, one couldn’t even tell if the roots were flowing into his body or coming out of his body, as his entire lower body below his hips had been replaced by those vine-like roots.

The roots then moved to encase him as a whole quickly, making him only barely visible between the openings of the roots. Within the man’s skin began to change further, his skin quickly taking on a far greener tone all across his body. If Marie had to guess, then she would say that this was because it just gained the synthesizing properties of chlorophyll and took on more plantlike qualities. You know, things that normal skin cannot do.

Yet despite all that was happening to him, the man did not panic. In fact, he looked kinda relaxed. Even more, he seemed to enjoy when his skin further started to shift, rejecting all unnecessary body hair while severely reducing his body's muscle mass.

As he seemingly began to be nourished by the earth his form changed further as his entire frame became smaller, which also included his shoulders caving inwards, ribs shrinking in size, as well as his midriff becoming slender and smooth.

By now Marie could no longer deny it anymore: She had inadvertently created a monster girl transformation device once again and she wasn't happy about it. And the worst part, that guy wasn’t the only one, because those roots were attacking and fusing with basically every human they managed to get into contact with, and all of them displayed similar changes to the guy right in front of her.

Speaking of that guy, he was becoming more feminine by the second and it was only capitalized on as his hips drew outwards, inflating rapidly as to seemingly wanting to make up for the loss in his muscle mass or height. A good trade off, but one that didn’t exactly make him look more manly.

Even further, when he reached for his chest and seemingly gave off moaning sounds, it was clear that some of those underground nutrients were headed straight for his future breasts. And just as expected, his flat chest blossomed outwards, growing over the span of several seconds and multiple hearty moans into a mighty pair of perky breasts.

And, as to add some final touches to his new form, his hair grew out into long flowing locks decorated with beautiful flora and his face becoming cute as his eyes slightly enlarged, his lips inflated a bit to make them more kissable, and his jawline rounded out a lot to give him a very much natural beauty.

Speaking of him, the guy was probably better addressed as that girl by now, because as the root cage sank back into the ground and therefore Marie could have a good look at the person, she could very clearly see that she was no longer a man… considering that all of her clothes had been completely ripped to shreds during the transformation.

Though almost immediately after, Marie could tell that the fresh Alraune was starting to bask in the beautiful sunlight, seemingly wanting to take in as much as she could possibly manage. And as she did, flower petals started to grow from her most private spots, hiding her nipples and girly parts perfectly underneath them as well as sprouting some giant petals from all across her hips which spun upwards, making her look like a bud that was closing up.

That didn’t stay like that for long though, as after the petals had reached their full size, the petals opened up again, making it look like a giant flower had just blossomed with a beautiful girl stuck in the middle of it. Quite the beautiful sight to behold to be real.

“Wow…” Marie was shaken back to reality as Hiros let out a huge gasp of awe, making her stop looking at that one Alraune and start analyzing her surroundings. And what a view it was.

All around them, tons of giant flowers all bearing a single Alraune in the middle started to blossom all at once, making it almost look like a choreographed dance with how well those sights worked together.

She had expected her project’s failure to end in a mass panic this time, but instead she was met with a beautiful sight of unexpected flowers and a whole batch of Alraunes that looked like they were just on the verge of being lovey-dovey with the rest of them that were around them.

“I am not sure if that was intended, but that was the most pretty flower show I have ever seen.” Hiros added, making Marie's head snap back to look at him. She looked blankly at him for a good few moments, trying her best to figure out what the best response in this situation would be, until finally…

“It spread on a little bit larger scale than I anticipated, but I would say that the experiment overall was a success…?” Was what she chose to answer with, despite still sounding unsure of herself. Yet every doubt in her mind was washed away when Hiros gestured her to step closer.

So she did. Taking one step forward. Then another. Stepping over a root between them until…

“Uhhh~ Fuwaaaaa~” She could no longer control her mouth and started to let out the cutest of sounds as Hiros hand moved on her head and rewarded her in the most satisfying way for a fox girl. Headpats, headpats and more headpats.

Though that reminded her. That one root that shot through between them. Why didn’t it go for Hiros and turn him as well…?

Meh… who cares. All that matters was that he wasn’t transformed and her date wasn’t ruined. And that the flower show was a great success~

It's time for Marie's big date. With her having prepared for that day for months, surely nothing will go wrong, right?

…right?
