This arc has not been playtested by a live group! Though that may not remain the case indefinitely. Part of the reason is because it involves more working pieces and specific abilities, and the whole concept is still being workshopped. Starting this story is like putting words on a blank page, and whatever happens as it unfolds is what happens, but sometimes a pen and paper RPG cares about the specifics. Like, for example, exactly how far the guy with magic air powers can throw you - stuff like that. Especially when you plan to regularly defeat the party, but not outright kill them nor make them feel like they aren't gaining ground. I want our heroes to make progress even while repeatedly losing, which is tricky when the context isn't "the hero is a young lad with a lot to learn".

I have done more combat-centric games, but they require way more book-keeping and set up. The concept for this game normally has the depth that I would reserve for a full campaign, which would mean a whole roster of statted out characters to flesh out all the conflicts and everything. Possibly, the podcast will wind up being a pilot for a campaign game, and then I'll commit to running a multi-session game with all the work there entailed.

I was thinking that the extra nations would be Metal and Wood.

Actually, Lawry, it's pronounced with -keen, not -kwin.

While I haven't disliked one of these yet, I still think my opinion is worthwhile. And I, for one, am a fan of this concept!

This sounds promising! Looking forward to the rest! "Starting this story is like putting words on a blank page, and whatever happens as it unfolds is what happens" Are you meaning to tell us that all that banter about who has how much money and how much the mission is worth was improvised on the spot (or mostly improvised)? Because that'd be damn impressive even for someone like me who has known this type of running-gag-banter to be your forté ever since the MAS times.

Missed opportunity to make the mercs masters of Earth Wind and Fire. Could have posed as a band to get close to him, lol
