Thus begins "Small Time Champion"! Usually when getting a party together, you try to create some reason for them to work together, but when it's the context of a reality TV show, it's much easier to figure out reasons why they shouldn't work and will have interesting conflicts with each other! The network did this for the ratings.

The players in the podcast often, but not strictly, correspond to real players in the original games. This is one of the cases where the rules are broken and the guy who typically plays Mayson's characters got bumped over to Lawry. He didn't play a low-energy downer of a character at first, but he took some actions later in the game that would have to be explained by a fairly pessimistic or nihilistic life outlook. That put his character in Lawry's hands, who then hams up that nihilism and will make the later behavior feel natural.

Love the High Energy in this episode, especially after the more serious tone of "NOT DnD". As somebody that lived in their car for 7 years, Paul is doing a great job of representing the willfully homeless. Elvis, as always, has a clear vision of what his character is at their core, and brings that fully on display. And Laury feels more proactively disappointed this time around.

Turning literally every surface into a smudged window is a good idea I did not see coming.

2:10 Chrysanthemum... looks like the lady from the Radio Skyline jewelry ad ended up failing to find herself a sugar daddy. Or it's a different character with the same name. Probably both. Because parallel universes.
