One of the tricks with Mack and having changed one of the challenges in the previous is that it did alter the story beats somewhat. I considered having a physical altercation with Mack here, but there's a future detail I don't want to mess up, so ultimately I went with this kind of diversion and new challenge created by the party trying to negotiate.
