When I ran this game in reality, I really didn't know for sure what the players would have for powers, and I was just making things up on the spot and throwing it at them to see how they handled it. As a result, the podcast version of events isn't 1:1 because I can't remember what all the challenges really were during class time, and I don't remember how they solved them. However, I do know that Mayson's power is a modified version of what the player was doing - in the real game, the player could force a person to relive the events of a photograph he'd taken, which was neat, but he didn't get a chance to take many photos. Being a one-shot, that hurt the power a bit, so Mayson got something he didn't have to set up ahead of time.

Is this a real setting, which I can't find via Google, or did you do this and all your other settings based on the Hero system?

This one's a spoof on Harry Potter, but I usually just make up a setting and then build whatever needs to be built using Hero. For this game, all the spells are part of a "Power Framework", which basically means they players can come up with a ton of different abilities, but they can only use so many of them at one time. Or in Mayson's case, he just has one single ability he spent all the points on and didn't have anything left to expand the framework.
