In the world of prophetic readings, a thing should be disqualified as a prophesy if you're expending numerous resources to make it happen, and it wouldn't happen if you took no action. But then, of course the prophesy of Oedipus never would have occurred if the Oracle hadn't predicted it. They're tricky things, and let's be honest, not entirely fair when you get down to it.

And once you accept prophesies are whimsical and not at all reliable, you get right back into that territory of fate no longer being your master.
