At the point at which the GM told us "there's a chasm you have to cross", we were all level one. Now, DnD isn't my favorite system and after all these years is still not the one I've spent the most time playing, but I was really struck by exactly how big a challenge a gap between here and there can be for a level one party, and I think at the end of it all the GM really kind of forgave us for our bad ideas more than that we came up with a good solution.
