One of the fun aspects of having invented a super conglomerate is that I can go back and use them to stand in for any major corporation. In real life, the area I live in has a few major companies that the cities and state have gradually bent over backwards to appease, to the point of producing less tax revenue in new jobs than they cut from the company's responsibilities. I haven't looked into exactly what our politicians get out of it except maybe campaign funding from the companies, so that's my best guess on the practice.

Fun fact! The town of Topeka unofficially renamed itself "Google, Kansas" as one of these attempts to please a company. Topeka also once renamed itself "Topikachu, Kansas" for a single day. Straight from an article that asked the following administration about Topikachu:

"We did it for a day," [Bill Bunton, mayor of Topeka] said, sounding perplexed. "I can't remember why."

I think at this point the data shows that the tax breaks are actually a net loss for the locals, but cities hold out hope anyway because in some theoretical future, forty years later, maybe those companies will pay taxes, and then you'll have a huge cut of the global economy in your town.

It's an in joke amongst my friends now that every major company in the world is owned by Olagoplemart, in the same way that basically every casino in Vegas is owned by one of a few parent companies that no one ever hears about.
