It takes a while to get into a strategy game, so they tend not to be as popular, so a lot of companies have been trying to figure out how to make the genre more casual and accessible. Stellaris is currently walking a very fine line that I think mostly achieves that end. I'd like it to have a bit more depth, but I seem to know a lot of people who play and grasp the game, and they feel comfortable in their various play styles.
