Completely missed by most is the parallel between what the First Evil is doing with Spike with what he did with Angel in “Amends”. Try to corrupt the only ensouled demons who have chosen, thanks to Buffy’s influence and specifically their love for Buffy, to fight on the side of good. To be able to corrupt them specifically is the ultimate victory of evil vs good.

I suppose it's possible that the gang was hanging back quite a distance while Buffy was confronting the turok-han near the end of the episode. It only looked to us like she went out alone. That's my theory anyway.
