This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Constantine, released in 2005, and directed by Francis Lawrence! This film was really not what I was expecting, but in a good way! Keanu Reeves is just so great and I love that I'm watching more of his movies lately. Peter Stormare was a huge highlight for me though. Exorcism, demonic possession, religion... this has it! This film was always strange to me as like other mentioned in the last post Constantine is a DC character but the film is very different to the comic counterpart yet similar in other aspects. Keanu Reeves doesn't really look like the character who is blonde in the comics with a tan trench coat, white shirt and red tie. Also has a strong Cockney accent that over the years has ventured into a more Northern English accent so the Keanu Reeves take is very different. As Keanu has darker hair I could see them just making his whole outfit a darker colour. But I don't think the film did the comics an injustice it's just a different, more American take on the character. In terms of the comics John is heavily featured as the main character in the Hellblazer comics (My introduction) but first appeared in Swamp Thing (vol. 2) #37. Comics like Hellblazer and his first appearance, Swamp Thing were set in the mainline DC Universe but well-known DC characters were rarely seen or mentioned, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman etc. Supernatural characters though such as Zatanna, the Phantom Stranger etc. These were easily referenced as they fit into the field of Constantine's work and each have their own connections to other DC characters like Batman. Then down the line Justice League Dark was formed a branch of the Justice League dedicated to dealing with mystical and supernatural threats. So this is when they started to connect more with the greater DC Universe. Seeing Constantine and Batman working together is always fun and something I'd love to see in Live Action. Also same I did hear rumours of a Constantine 2 but I personally would love if James Gunn introduces a new Constantine in his DCU. We know Swamp Thing is getting a movie so maybe we'll see Constantine in that as he first appeared in a Swamp Thing comic. they could easily bring Keanu Reeves in an Elseworlds film outside of James Gunns DC Universe similar to The Batman. But yeah I still enjoyed this film for the most part.
